Brothers and sisters, he urges,... offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. See Romans 12:1 Dear Parishioners, I hope you are enjoying this Labor Day weekend. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless the work of our hands, our minds, our hearts -- all our efforts so that God's Kingdom may be more manifest in the world. The Gospel today puts it beautifully: to try to put on the mind of God, to be attuned to God's thinking, and not just our thinking. We are back from vacation and in our regular routine now that schools are back in session. We want to pray for all students that the Lord will bless their studies and open their minds to the beauty of knowledge as one of the gifts of the Spirit. A special thanks to all who are making Pastors Plaza finally a reality! We are looking forward to the final touches being done in the next few weeks. Blessings to you all. This Week ~ August 30th and 31st Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflections on Today s Readings FOCUS: In the first reading, Jeremiah is so in tune with the Lord that he cannot hold back from speaking of him to others even though it often brings him derision and reproach. Could that be said of your faith? What are the obstacles that keep you from talking to someone about your faith in Christ? LITURGY OF THE WORD: Paul goes on in the letter to the Romans to urge us not to be conformed to the world but rather be transformed by the renewal of your mind. What has the biggest influence on your mind: television, newspapers, what others think and say -- or Scripture? What specifically can you do to reduce the influence of the first three and increase the influence of Scriptures? 4 Ministry Equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith AN AMAZING JOURNEY OF FAITH FOR YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW Are you thinking about becoming a Catholic? The process is called RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This is the process through which adults are fully initiated into the Catholic faith community. We become a member of the Catholic faith by truly experiencing the life, the self-understanding, and the activities of the community itself. The Catechism of the Catholic Church puts it beautifully: The vocation of humanity is to show forth the image of God and to be transformed into the image of the Father s only Son. I m convinced that this truth about the sacred image and destiny of the human person is a key to the new evangelization. We need to make this truth the substance of our preaching, our religious education, our work for justice This is the beautiful vision of Christian anthropology. Emphasize to them how important it is that they keep personal information private. Make sure that they have a strong username and password that does not reveal anything personal.
