2 Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER: Jesus meets the need of each disciple. To the fearful in the upper room, He speaks words of peace. To doubting Thomas, He provides the tangible proof of His resurrection. What do I need to become His disciple? What do I have to share that might meet someone else s need? A SEASON OF JOY - "They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers" (Acts 2:42). This first line of today's first reading sets the tone as this fifty-day celebration of Easter opens before us. Today we listen to the teachings of three apostles--luke, Peter, and John--who remind us that even though we have not seen Christ, we nonetheless are filled with joy as we place our belief in his saving death and resurrection. Each week during the Easter season we will gather as a community of faith to find strength and support from our God and from one another. Each week we will gather to break bread and offer the great prayer of thanksgiving, actions that will manifest the very presence of the risen Christ in our midst. This Week: Saturday, April 22nd / Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 Solemnity of the Second Sunday of Easter / Sunday of Divine Mercy FOCUS: Showing love and mercy to one another is a way of showing gratitude to God for His mercy toward us. If Easter needs an exclamation point, Divine Mercy Sunday provides it. The death and resurrection of Jesus reveal the depths of God s mercy toward us. For by His death, Jesus won forgiveness for our sins and by rising, restored our life. In gratitude for all that we have received from God, let us go forth and treat one another with kindness and mercy. Reflections on Today s Readings: LITURGY OF THE WORD: Today s first reading speaks of the early Christians living in community and showing great concern fro one another. The Church grew as the Lord blessed their work. The second reading highlights the blessings of following Christ even in times of trial. In the Gospel, the risen Jesus appears to the Apostles and sends them out to forgive sins and bring people to salvation. Each year, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles publishes the Working Together to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse brochure, which provides a listing of policies, programs, resources and other information on how the Catholic Church is working to help prevent child sexual abuse. Copies of the 2017 brochure are available in the parish vestibule or visit Pages/CAPM.aspx. Rancho San Antonio Boys Home - Ticket Sales, this weekend of April 22nd/23rd after all Masses. Rancho San Antonio exists to help: confused, abused, neglected and sometimes homeless adolescent youths to avoid becoming another negative statistic. Thank you for your generosity. God Bless! Baby Bottles will be distributed the weekend of April 29/30 so that parishioners may fill them with donations to benefit the life-saving work of Los Angeles Pregnancy Services (LAPS). LAPS, a pro-life counseling center, provides women who are pregnant in difficult circumstances with spiritual, emotional, and material support before and after their babies are born. It's easy to help. Please take a baby bottle home, place your donation inside and return it to St. Anastasia Church or School by May 28. 5 Ministry equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith The Divine Mercy Chaplet, private prayer, and adoration takes place each Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm, in the Church and throughout the year. Kids Living Faith: Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 Second Sunday of Easter Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. John 20:29 When Jesus appeared to a nun named sister Faustina, He told her to share an image of His Divine Mercy with the world. So Faustina tried to describe Jesus to an artist. But when the artist showed her what he d painted, all Faustina could do was cry. She wanted to do as Jesus had asked, but no painting could come close to the love and beauty she saw in Jesus. Today you may see a painting of Jesus at Church. It s based on St. Faustina s visions. We may not be able to see Jesus the way St. Faustina and the apostles did, but He is here in every act of mercy and love. Jesus, I trust, In You.
