2 Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... 14th Sunday In Ordinary Time: The harvest is rich, Jesus tells the seventy-two in today s Gospel, but the workers are few. The situation is the same today. How can I help with God s harvest? Am I called into the field? Am I one who could provide food or shelter or wages to those who toil in the fields of the Lord. Luke 10:2 Dear Parishioners, The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvestto send out laborers for his harvest." We are all workers for the Lord's harvest. Each one of us has a responsibilty to do the very best we can to bring about God's kingdom on earth. It is no easy task, but if we do our very best, God will richly reward us. This message is not just about asking the Lord to send us more priests and religious Brothers and Sisters -- important as that is. It may be more about seeing lay men and women to take up a special calling as leaders, leaders of the Catholic faith. Please consider contributing to Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future. 3 Reflection on Today s Readings: FOCUS: We are sent out by Holy Mother Church with the Good News of Jesus Christ. It has been said that the Church can be compared to Jerusalem which was regarded as a loving mother to the Jewish people. Just as babies find comfort on the laps of their mothers, se are we to find comfort in our relationship with the Church, our Holy Mother. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading tells of how the Lord will spread prosperity over Jerusalem like a river. Paul, in the second reading, tells the Galatians that his body bears the marks of Jesus. In today s Gospel, the seventy-two disciples are sent out in pairs ahead of Jesus and return rejoicing. Talking to your kids about cell phone safety - The more advanced cellular devices become, the more functions they have available. Sending pictures over the Internet is something that children do all the time. Photo-messaging on cell phones is no different. Children need to be aware why all pictures are not appropriate to send. They also need to know that if they receive a message or image that makes them uncomfortable, they should immediately tell you or another trusted adult. FACT OF LIFE Morning-After Pill Now Over-the-Counter The Obama Administration has dropped its legal battle against a judge s decision that would allow young girls to purchase the Plan B morning after pill over the counter. The decision allows anyone to purchase the drug and opponents of the decision say it paves the way for male sexual predators to purchase the drug for girls they victimize, by removing safeguards currently in place. Previously, the Justice Department appealed a court ruling saying the morning after pill known as Plan B should be available without a prescription for teenagers starting at age 15. Late Monday, the Obama administration said it would stop fighting a court order requiring it to remove all age restrictions on the sale of Plan B One-Step without a prescription.... The Planned Parenthood abortion business applauded the decision.... Previously, the Plan B morning after pill was only available over the counter to women above the age of 17. The Food and Drug Administration sought to make the drug available more widely but Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius overruled the decision. Some pro-life groups have pointed to comments from the maker of the drug and studies to show that the morning after pill can act as an abortion agent in some cases, terminating the life of a unique human being hours after conception. There are visitors in the Churches every summer, and familiar faces are among the missing. Some find the summer s call more appealing that the summons of the Church bells. Many, however, would not dream of missing a Sunday and so they make their way to Mass in unfamiliar places, watching their locals for clues as to when to sit or stand, where the Communion stations are. In answering the call, they keep the sabbatical rhythm of the Christian life: every seventh day, the Body of Christ assembles for worship. For centuries, there was mo obligation to Sunday Mass in the sense of a written law, but Christians have always yearned to be together on Sunday. In the city of Abitina, during a persecution by the Emperor Diocletian, a group of Christians were urged to stop worshiping together on Sundays. They responded, Then take our lives, for without the Sunday we cannot live. By a curious coincidence, the appointed readings today center us on thoughts of peace.
