2 Ministry g6athers us and makes us a faith family... July 2nd, 2017, 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Both the first reading and the Gospel today speak of hospitality and welcome. Our ministers of hospitality are a most visible example of using one s time and talents to welcome the people of God. But the Gospel assures us that all who give even just a cup of cold water to one of His lowliest ones will be rewarded. Mat 10:42 THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST: Today we have the beautiful story of the woman promised a child, the wonderful exhortation about life in Christ, and a powerful instruction from Jesus. An embarrassment of riches? Not if we take Jesus' words about "welcome" to heart. The many challenges and blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul, and Jesus should be cause for rejoicing, and welcomed heartily into our lives. And, like the great treat that they are, they should be enjoyed and shared generously with others. Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the liturgical life of the Church to be the sole apostolic instruction received by candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil. This illustrates its importance as a core belief, and as a means of comprehending the story of the Resurrection. Christ's resurrection is not merely a story about something that he underwent once upon a time, but it is our story, the story of how we joined the other members of the one Body of Christ, the church. We were not only dead, but we were buried; not ultimately buried, but raised to eternal life with Christ. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. 3 This Week: Saturday, July 1st / Sunday, July 2nd, 2017 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflections on Today s Readings: FOCUS: The Lord rewards His faithful disciples with the gift of life. As believers, we share in the death and resurrection of Christ. He is our hope and our salvation. While Jesus words in the Gospel might seem challenging or even cold, He is making the point that discipleship must be our priority, and the lens through which we see all aspects of life. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Elisha rewards his host with a great blessing. In the Letter to the Romans, Paul describes the Gospel as dynamic force to be baptized is to receive the Spirit of Christ into ourselves. In today s Gospel, Jesus explains to His disciples the conditions and rewards of discipleship. The Divine Mercy Chaplet, private prayer, and adoration takes place in the Church, each Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm, and throughout the year. All St. A's community members are welcome to join in the fun. Larry showed up with nothing except a scruffy dog on a leash. A parishioner is moving and can t take care of him, Father explained. And, Sam I know you have been wanting a dog.
