2 Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... Third Sunday of Easter - There is a certain urgency in today s Gospel as Jesus calls His first disciples Andrew and Simon, James and John. Each one follows Jesus immediately, unhesitatingly abandoning nets and boats and father and fellow-workers. To what is Jesus calling me at this moment, in these circumstances? What will I need to abandon in order to follow Him? Dear Parishioners, I hope that the spirit of Easter joy continues to be a part of your daily experience, especially now as we come to the Third Sunday of Easter. Last Sunday we heard the words from John s Gospel As the Father has sent me, so I send you. Today we have the version of the same sentiment, but from Luke s Gospel. Luke tells us that we are to be witnesses of the dying and raising of Jesus. We are about a new way. We are about repentance. We are about the forgiveness of sins. For we preach the name of Jesus by the way we live, by the way we show our love and care, by the words we choose, by the suffering and sorrow we endure. In a word, we must never forget that all is for the sake or Jesus, who nourishes us our hearts, our souls, our minds with the beauty of His Word. We are His witnesses. This Week: Saturday, April 18th/Sunday, April 19th Third Sunday of Easter Reflections on Today s Readings: FOCUS: Redeemed by Jesus, we are to turn from sin and ask for forgiveness when we fail, that we may be saved. Through the Paschal Mystery, Jesus saved the world from sin and death. As a redeemed people and followers of Jesus, we strive to live by His Commandments - to love God and love our neighbor. However, Jesus understands our weakness, gives us the Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and assures us that we will be forgiven if we repent. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In today s first reading, Peter charges his listeners to repent and reform their lives. The Letter of St. John echoes this message, telling the disciples to keep Christ s Commandments. In the Gospel, Jesus appears to the disciples and assures them that He is truly risen from the dead, as Scripture had prophesied. He then prepares them to carry on His Ministry. This weekend, the Knights of Columbus will be selling Rancho San Antonio Raffle Tickets after all the Masses (except 7:30 pm). The proceeds from this raffle support the "Boys Home of the West" located in Chatsworth. Its mission is to help young men develop the skills, values, and personal responsibility needed to rejoin their families and communities. Considering the importance of taking care of our Planet, it should not be of extreme significance which Sunday we choose to celebrate Earth Day. 5 Ministry in Community SAVE THE DATE St. Anastasia Blood Drive/ Sunday, May 31st, Parish Hall It s a bloody fact. Blood cannot be manufactured. 1 out of every 100 people entering the hospital needs blood. With one donation you can save 2 lives. Each whole blood donation can be separated into two components, red blood cells and plasma. This is a way to make a difference and it won t cost you a dime. All the income will go: To Agape congregation, To help the sisters to survive, To pay the expenses of their ministry, To help families in need they already know, And serve either in US and Egypt. ST ANASTASIA SOCIAL CLUB NEWS Join us on Wednesday, July 15, for a train trip to San Juan Capistrano. We will leave the Church at 10:00 AM and head to Fullerton, where we will board the Amtrak for our ride to San Juan Capistrano. Lunch will be provided at Sardussi s Depot Restaurant, followed by a docentled tour of the old mission. We will then have time to explore the town and its many quaint shops before boarding the bus for St. Anastasia. We expect to arrive home about 6:30 PM. As always, the $82 price includes all gratuities. This trip will probably fill fast, so don t wait to call Laurette at Payment must be received by May 15. Third Sunday of Easter, April 19th, The way we may be sure that we know [Jesus] is to keep His Commandments John 2:3 How many of the Ten Commandments do you know? When Jesus was preaching and teaching people, He was asked what were the most important Commandments. He said it was to love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. He did not want us to ignore the Ten Commandments. They are very important. But what was most important to Him was love of God and love of our fellow human beings that means all people. If we show that kind of love, obeying the Ten Commandments will become much easier to follow.
