This sentiment is echoed in the refrain for today's responsorial psalm: "The Lord is near to all who call upon him" (Psalm 145:18a). Saint Paul is the embodiment of someone who constantly sought the Lord. In the excerpt we read today from his letter to the Philippians, we find Saint Paul toward the end of his life, a life he describes as completely consonant with Christ. He writes, "For to me life is Christ" (Philippians 1:21). To find out what it means to live life completely in accord with Christ we need look no further than today's Gospel. 3 This Week: Saturday, September 23rd / Sunday, September 24th, 2017 Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time FOCUS: God s ways are not our ways. Reflections on Today s Readings: We must be mindful that the Lord s ways truly differ from our ways. They are wonderful and mysterious. This is shown in the fact that God loves us unconditionally, and is ever-willing to forgive. God continually works by the power of the Holy Spirit to draw all people closer to Himself. And God is near to all who call upon Him. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Isaiah exhorts sinners to repent and turn to the Lord for Mercy. The second reading reminds us of the importance of conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel. In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the good employer, which speaks of how God freely and generously bestows His love and forgiveness on all who are open to receiving it. 5 Fall Film Study Ministry equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith Our Fall Film Study will take place on Thursday, October 12 th, 19 th and 26 th in the School Library at 7:30 PM. We will be viewing and discussing the 2016 film A United Kingdom. This film is based on the true story of the black crown prince of Botswana who married a white Englishwoman in the late 1940s. As one might expect, neither the Africans nor the British were happy with this arrangement. It is a powerful story of love and hope in a difficult time and place. We look forward to three evenings of an enjoyable film and interesting discussion.
