Dec. 6th Holy Trinity ~ Jan. 3rd Holy Spirit PASTOR S MESSAGE: Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me." Today we celebrate the feast of an unusual kind of king. Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, does not run his kingdom in the standard fashion. Instead of insisting upon the pomp and circumstance that usually surrounds earthly royalty, Jesus has a different focus. He thinks not of himself, but of those he loves. And in today's Gospel, his interest is especially focused on the poor and suffering in our midst. Our King asks us to care for those in need--the hungry, the homeless, the foreigner, the sick and suffering. But then, he goes farther; he tells us that in caring for these least brethren, we will be ministering to HIM! What an incredible promise. Not only do we carry out the command to love our neighbor when we protect those in need, but we also show our love for Jesus in a direct and concrete way. This love for Christ through others is so real that Jesus actually tells us that our place on Judgment Day will depend on it: "'What you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.' And these will go off to eternal punishment." On the other hand, the "righteous" who ministered to the weak and poor will enjoy eternal life. Our King has spoken loud and clear. Now comes the question of whether or not we are obeying his orders? Each of us is called to examine how well we are caring for the least among us. Sometimes, this means giving our time and energy for special ministries or missions, but often it means caring for those right in front of us--the sick or suffering in our own homes, families, neighborhoods, or parishes. Whatever our situation, may we have the eyes to see Christ in our midst and serve him. Bishop Scharfenberger will celebrate the 10:00 A.M. Mass at Holy Trinity on Sunday, December 17th. All families are invited to attend this special celebration. Thank you to all who donated turkeys, pies, cash donations and your time to make this years Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Twin Cities Council of Churches a success. We couldn t do it without all of you! Oplatek Christmas Wafers are available in both Churches next weekend for $1.00 donation. CMS has expanded their services to assist families of children birth to 21 years of age with special physical or mental health needs. As in the past, take a tag and purchase a new gift/s. Please put your gift in a gift bag, rather than a box. Please have the gifts returned by December 15th. Gift ideas for children include clothing, books, puzzles, socks. For teens, hoodies, socks, bath and body gift sets, pajamas etc. Our families are also very happy to receive gift cards for Wal-Mart, Target, Kohls, Peebles, TJ Maxx, Label Shopper, Price Chopper and Aldi, or fast food restaurants. The Sisters of the Holy Spirit will hold their Christmas dinner on Monday, Dec. 4th at 6:00 P.M. at the Holiday Inn, Johnstown. Menu choices include Chicken Francaise, Sliced Prime Rib, Petit Salmon Filet. The cost is $10.00 for members, $15.00 for guests. Reservations and payment are due by Monday, Nov. 27th. Call Markie King at for reservations. Do you have toys that your children have outgrown or no longer play with? Why not donate them to the Helpers Community Store. We are in need of gently used children s toys. MOTHER TERESA S CLOSET: Thank You to those who donated towards the Thanksgiving Baskets for our families in need. We are currently in need of toilet paper, paper towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine products, tissues, and monetary donations. HAPPY THANKSGIVING Thank you to all who participated in and supported the Teen Mass on November 12th, and thank you to Father Matt Wetsel for celebrating the Mass with us. There will be a joint parent meeting on Saturday, December 2nd at 10:00 A.M. in the Holy Trinity Parish Hall for parents from Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity whose children will be receiving the sacrament of First Reconciliation. The Mothers of Faith In Action group will host a vendor/craft fair on Sunday, December 10th, 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. in the gym at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Mark your calendar and come shop with us! There will be a VIRTUS training at Holy Trinity Parish, Monday, December 11th at 6:30 P.M. in the parish hall. Anyone interested in helping with any of our faith formation programs are required to attend a VIRTUS training to protect your self and our children. The video training is approximately 90 minutes in length. We need parents, grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles; ALL are welcome. Please call the office at to register. The Helpers Community Store recently made a generous donation to the Holy Spirit Faith Formation Program. Thank you for your generosity. Dinner for a Cause: Continuing with my community service project, my family and I are coordinating a Spaghetti and Meatballs Dinner on Wednesday, December 6th, 3:30 P.M.-7:00 P.M. The dinner which includes Spaghetti and meatballs with a dinner roll, is being held at Plaza s Italian Bistro in Gloversville through the Drive Thru Lane only. If you do not have transportation, delivery is possible in Gloversville. Please let us know when purchasing a ticket. Each dinner cost $7.50, with the proceeds benefitting the Baby Box Program at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Sunday, December 17th, the Holy Trinity Faith Formation program and their families will celebrate the birth of Jesus with a special birthday party and activity in the parish hall during their class session. ADULT FAITH FORMATION: Wednesday, November 29th, Anne Solar will lead a faith filled evening of reflection in preparation for Advent. She will reflect on the word Anticipation. The evening will begin at 6:30 P.M. at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall. The Holy Trinity Rosary Society Christmas Dinner will be Wednesday, December 6th, at the Union Hall at 5:00 P.M. The cost is $21.00 per person. Choice for an entrée is: Salmon with lemon dill sauce or Grilled Sirloin Steak or Chicken Piccata. The dinner includes entrée, salad, rolls, dessert, coffee or tea. Sign-up sheets are in the Holy Trinity church this weekend. RSVP by Thursday, November 30th. All women of the Parish are invited. If you would like to attend, but need a ride, please call the parish office at The Food Pantry in Johnstown is in need of donations. Please bring the items to church and put them in the baskets provided. Winter months are coming and the need is great. Thank you for your generosity.
