Hos 6:6] Next Sunday: PASTOR S MESSAGE: 3rd Sunday of Lent We all have things in our lives that don't belong there. Maybe it's the poor way we allow someone to treat us, maybe it's a habitual sin, maybe it's a pattern of thought or attitude that traps us in a cycle of regret, anger, or an inability to forgive. Jesus has bold words for us today: "Take these out of here." When we hear the story of the Cleansing of the Temple, it can be easy to look down on the animal-sellers and money-changers. However, they set up shop in the Temple for a very practical purpose. People needed to buy animals to sacrifice, they were going to sacrifice them in the Temple: ergo, quite a convenient, successful marketplace! For many of us, the negative influences in our lives don't come out of nowhere. We might have considered them quite practical and reasonable initially. We wanted to keep the peace, so we allowed someone to talk to us disrespectfully. A person hurt us deeply and we weren't prepared to let go of our resentment right away. Over time, these can fester and corrupt our inner life in a way we didn't expect. The response of Jesus is a strong one. "He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area." God wants us to be whole, healthy human beings. He knows how destructive it is for our souls to be caught up sin -- our own sin and those of others. God's love for us is startlingly fierce. In a few short weeks we will celebrate the culmination of that courageous love as Jesus goes to his death on the cross. In the meantime, Lent is an opportunity for cleansing and renewal. If we've allowed into our lives things that don't belong, let today be the day we ask Jesus to clear them out. It's not always easy or pretty, but it's necessary for our hearts to function the way they were made. God will turn our tables over if we ask Him to. 4 CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Ann Simonson, Faith Formation Coordinator Third Sunday of Lent HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator First Communion: Sunday, March 4th, at the 11:30 A.M. Mass we will present the First Communion candidates for a special blessing. Confirmation Class: We will meet Monday, March 26th, 6:00 P.M.-8:30 P.M. and Monday, April 9th, 6:00 P.M.-8:30 P.M. Confirmation candidates must attend both evenings to complete the course. A mailing was sent out with the necessary paperwork for Confirmation. If you did not receive this mailing information or have questions, please feel free to call Ann Simonson at The Sister s of the Holy Spirit and the Youth Ministry Team are partnering again this year to put on a Fish Dinner on Friday, March 23rd, 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. You can eat in or take out. Dinner includes fish, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, roll and dessert for $ If you are not a fish eater, you will have the option of getting a macaroni and cheese dinner without the fish for $8.00. Tickets are available from Pam Bray at the Doll House, Markie King or at the parish office. Emmaus Retreat: Our ninth grade teens will be attending their Emmaus Retreat on the weekend of March We are happy to welcome 4 teens from Ft. Plain who will be joining us. Prayer is a very important part of this weekend and we would like your help. There are votive candles at the entrances of the church with a candidates name on them. Please take one home, light it and pray for that candidate. We also ask you to pray for the retreat team. This year there are 43 members of the team with over half of them teens and young adults. We pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us as we guide the young people in our care toward a deeper relationship with Jesus. Adoration of Our Lord In My Father s house there are many dwelling places. Sunday, March 4th, the First Communion children will be present at the 10:00 A.M. Mass to receive a blessing as they prepare for the sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday May 6th. March 11th, the 4th and 5th grade class will celebrate their class mass at 10:00 A.M. Please join us for this celebration. A local duet, The Fleur De Lys, will sing during the social hour. Tickets will be on sale this weekend and next weekend after masses. The cost is $8.00. We will one again be participation in Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls. Pick up your Rice Bowl in the church if you would like to participate. You may return the Rice Bowl at any time prior to Easter Sunday.
