(Closed 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for lunch) Friday, 9:00 a.m. 12:00 Noon Fourth Sunday of Advent A woman, short of years but abundant in wisdom, hears the call of God through an angel and all of creation waits for her response. The story of the Annunciation in this Sunday s Gospel places on a major stage the relationship humanity has with God the Father. His love for us is so great he would seek to become like us in the incarnation, and then by his death and resurrection save us from death so that we may live forever with him. The entire cosmic plan hinges on the response of one girl. Have you ever had to make a decision that would entirely change your life and the lives of those around you? Has God ever asked you to risk it all for the kingdom? Maybe the question came in the form of a loved one s death. Perhaps a cross-country move or a job change was the request. Confronting the reality of the call made your stomach ache and your head spin. What was your response? As this Advent draws to close, and a new calendar year lies just beyond your Christmas tree, let us pray that when the call comes we may respond as mature disciples. Age does not define maturity. Neither does experience. Maturity is defined by how we respond to God in those most challenging of moments. This Christmas, may a your girl in a far off land lead us to an infant Child who one day will most certainly ask us a question that will shake us to our core, and may our answer echo hers, Yes.

Everyday Stewardship The average American will spend close to $800 this year on Christmas gifts. That number is for the average person, not even the average family, which would be much higher. Most Americans will also take on some credit debt this Christmas in order to get their loved ones all the gifts they want. Of course, all of this spending is in the name of Jesus, the reason for the season, right? Even good stewards can easily get sucked into excessive spending at Christmas time. We have been programmed by our culture to see the season as the time for giving better gifts than at any other time of the year. But the reality is that Christmas should be seen as a time where those outward things matter the least, and what really matters is the reality of family and the experience of Christmas traditions together. But we have to be mature disciples to see it that way. As everyday stewards we need to give gifts with greater meaning rather than a bigger price tag. We are accountable to God for each dollar we spend, so we need to spend wisely. Also, I doubt Jesus has any desire to be used as the reason why your credit card bill is so high. God becoming man is a complete example of gift giving. God gave to us his only Son so we might have eternal life. It had nothing to do with money, and everything to do with giving completely of one's self. Christmas gifts are good and important traditions, but it is the giving of ourselves to one another that truly identifies the real reason for the season!

4 CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Karen Hoose, Director of Faith Formation Fourth Sunday in Advent HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator Children s Choir: Sam & Jessica Zimmerman, who are part of our Music Ministry, are once again going to be leading a Children s Choir to sing at the 4:00 P.M. Mass on Christmas Eve. They will sing before mass starts while people are congregating. Ages 5 thru 11 are invited to sing and there will be a rehearsal on Sunday, Dec 20 from 10:00 A.M. 10:45 A.M. in the church. This has become a beautiful part of our liturgy in the last few years. Taking part in the Christmas Liturgy is something that your child will never forget. Contact Karen Hoose at if you have any questions. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS: If you would like to donate toward the Christmas flowers at Holy Spirit, please do so by Dec. 21st. Please note that the money collected from the Christmas and Easter donations is also used for environment in the church throughout the year. 4th Sunday of Advent: Today we pray for Love. Can I think of myself as a prophet in my family, in my classroom, in my world? What will I proclaim? No Faith Formation on December 27th and January 3rd. FREE BUS TO WASHINGTON, D.C. We are offering a free bus to the Youth Rally and March for Life in Washington, D.C. on January 22nd for the young people in Fulton and Montgomery Counties.
