3 From the Pastor s Desk or the past six weeks we have heard the lyrics of the Servant Song by Richard Guillard written in F Words that echo in our minds and hearts: We are pilgrims on a journey. We are brothers (sisters) on the road. We are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load. Brother (Sister), let me be your servant. Let me be as Christ to you. Pray that I might have the grace to let you be my servant, too. The lyrics are worth our time for prayer and reflection. We recognize that we are brothers and sisters on a journey, on this life s journey. We must ask how we can serve each other. How can we bring Christ to others on this Ministry Sign up Sunday? or the past seven weeks parishioners have given their testimonies on what it means to them to serve as a liturgical F minister, i.e., cantor, choir member, lector, usher, greeter, altar server or Eucharistic Minister; to serve on the Buildings and Grounds Committee, Children s Social, Cleaning the Big Church and Little Church, Events Committee, Hospitality, Knights of Columbus, Office Assistance, Outreach, Pastoral Care, Saint Anthony Seniors, Social, Social Concerns, Welcoming along with Adult Faith Formation, Scripture study and small group faith sharing along with religious education for our children, young teens and teens. All of these opportunities are opportunities to be as Christ to one another. Some of these ministries are internal and essential and others are more external and essential, all of them together help to build up the Body of Christ through all aspects of parish life. am forever grateful for all the people who give of their time to perform these ministries, without them we could not I function as a parish. There is training for each one of these ministries so that people can become comfortable in these respective areas of parish life. Everyone who has joined one of the committees has received as much benefit in receiving from others as in their giving to others. Did you notice there is no they in the word Church? There is only us. As the saying goes u (you) are the church, you are the Body of Christ and we need you to help in one of these ministries so that we can be brothers and sisters to one another. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT In light of the recent revelations of further damage to the church from the sexual abuse scandal, the Bishop wants all the parishes to set aside time for prayer during the month of October, allowing us to come together for healing and reconciliation. 4 Middle School Ministry: 7th - 8th grade youth NOVA is the chance to begin again, to be made new, no matter who you are or what you ve been through. Come through to find out what we re all about! High School Ministry: 9th - 12th grade youth OASIS is BACK tonight! Join us as we continue with our series titled Belong. We ll talk about the importance of being INVITED to the table of Christ and what it means to invite others as well. IMPORTANT EVENT: Next week, Sunday October 14 th, we re going to take the time to discuss the recent scandals that have plagued the Catholic Church. What is our role in this? How do we respond? How do you feel seeing these things in the news? What are your friends saying? However you feel about all this, we invite you to take part in a very special OASIS night as we begin the healing process, first by listening to one another. Annual toiletry drive is happening now. The Outreach Committee distributes personal care packages at our winter shelter dinners to help those in need. We hope to distribute at least 600 bags again this year, so your contributions will be greatly appreciated. Please bring in hotel size toiletries of unopened soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions etc. and place them in the Outreach basket in the foyer when you come to Mass, or drop them off at the church office. Collection continues until October 28. Each package contains; shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotions, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, and deodorant. Grateful Living Joyful Giving This week you will receive a brochure detailing the Grateful Living, Joyful Giving our parish will be participating in over the next few weeks. This informative brochure is intended to communicate how we, as a parish, want to advance our mission and how we are serving God s people in our community. Commitment Sunday for this program is October 14. We encourage all parishioners to spend time in prayer and discussion with your family reflecting on how you are able to help us. We look forward to seeing all of our parishioners at Mass next weekend for this very important Commitment Sunday. We are grateful for all that you can do. One vital step in the process of onboarding a volunteer is the necessary screening for protection of our children and vulnerable adults. Please visit the Saint Anthony website and look towards the bottom on the homepage for the Virtus training link. When you have completed the online training you will be provided with a certificate. Please print or this and provide a copy to the Parish Office. Certification is valid for three years so if you think your certification has expired please complete the training again - just to be sure. When this is received by the Parish Office you will be provided with a Live Scan fingerprinting order form. Both fingerprinting and screening are needed for all volunteers at Saint Anthony Church. Protection and transparency is a priority to us.
