PASTOR S MESSAGE: Taking Pastoral Councils to the Next Level: The Benefits of Consultation Videoconference with Mark F. Fischer January 21, :00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. (including lunch) Pastors consult their councils by asking them to study the parish reality, to reflect on it, and to recommend their conclusions. To foster consultation in the parishes, the Diocese of Albany invited Mark F. Fischer to facilitate a session for pastors, parish life directors, parish council members, and potential pastoral council members. Dr. Fischer is the author of five books on pastoral councils and a faculty member at St. John s Seminary in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. His website, is the most popular internet resource on the topic of councils. This formation will be held at St. Edward the Confessor in Clifton Park with virtual classrooms at St. Patrick s in Catskill, St. Francis de Sales in Herkimer, St. Mary s in Oneonta, and Our Lady of the Annunciation in Queensbury. Unanswered Prayers Question: If the Lord answered all prayers, there would be no sickness, problems, etc. But since there are sickness and problems, one wonders if we should pray and if God was really serious when he said, Ask and you will receive (Lk 11:9). Answer: We always receive an answer from God. Sometimes the answer is no. It does not follow that if God answered our requests, there would be no trouble, because we do not know how to pray or what to ask for all that well. God wants us to ask and tells us in many ways to pray and ask for what we need. But he also tells us to trust that he knows what is truly best for us, not just what is apparently best. We simply cannot know all the implications for ourselves or others when we ask. But God does. And sometimes no is the best answer. 4 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Karen Hoose, Director of Faith Formation HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator The children in the Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity First Communion class will celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation on Saturday, January 21st at 12:00 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Spirit. Please keep these children in your prayers as they prepare for this sacrament. Faith Formation Classes Week of January 22: Grades 6-8 will meet from 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at Spirit Central Grades 9-10 will meet from 7:15 P.M.-8:15 P.M. Elementary and First Communion Grades K-5 Classes meet from 10:15 A.M.-11:15 A.M. Sunday, January 29th the Confirmation Class of Holy Trinity and Holy Spirit Churches will sponsor a Pancake Breakfast in the Holy Trinity Parish Hall. They will be serving from 8:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M. The cost is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 children under 10. Proceeds will be donated to a local charity. The teens will be selling tickets after all masses the weekends of Jan. 15 th and 22 nd at the Glebe St. entrance of the Holy Trinity Church. You may also buy tickets at the door. The amount is $ OUR COUNTRY NEEDS OUR PRAYERS: Please join us to pray the Rosary to Our Lady of Fatima on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 A.M. at the Trackside Homes meeting room in Johnstown. This group is not a part of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society.
