Free will donations and items for Mother Teresa s Closet will be collected. We hope to see you there. PASTOR S MESSAGE: Wounds of Christ: Physical evidence points to Christ s wrists as the likely location for the nails during the Crucifixion. Question: Were the nails put into Christ s hands or Wrists? The Shroud of Turin indicates the wrists, but then, why do stigmatists receive the wounds in the palms? The Bible also says, They have pierced my hands and my feet. (Ps 22:17). Answer: From a physical and historical point of view, it would seem that the nails went through the wrists. The hands are not strong enough to carry the weight of the body and the flesh would tear if the nails were put there. It is possible that both nails and rope were used, but this is unlikely. That the Scriptures use the term hands is not, of itself, decisive in ruling out the wrists since ancient distinctions between the hand and wrist, especially near the palm, were less precise than today. The hands could reasonable include the wrists in ancient discourse. Regarding the stigmatists, that they receive the stigmata at all is a mystical phenomenon that interacts with faith. Hence, if God were to grant the wounds to previous generations, it makes sense that he would permit them to appear where expected so that they would be recognized as such. Perhaps today that would be less the case, though the historical precedent of previous stigmatists might also influence the placement of the wounds. Msgr. Charles Pope is the pastor of Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian in December 8th is the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a Holy day of obligation. The Masses will be celebrated as follows: 12:10 P.M. at the Church of the Holy Spirit Fr. Jim Davis will be installed as Pastor of Our Lady of Hope Church in Fort Plain on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:30 P.M. The Joint Pastoral Council of Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity Churches still needs one new member from Holy Spirit and two new members from Holy Trinity to replace resigning members of the current council to aid them in their pastoral ministry and visionary process for the future. There are monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month from September thru June. Grades 9-10 will meet from 7:15 P.M.-8:15 P.M. Elementary and First Communion Grades K-5 Vendor/Craft Fair Dec. 11th, 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. in the Parish Gym at Holy Spirit. Shop with over 25 vendors/ crafters and support local businesses. This is a great opportunity to pick up some unique home décor, candles, clothing, books, jewelry, skin-care products, personalized and unique Christmas gifts. Food and drink will be available for The Decorating Committee at Holy Spirit will meet on Wednesday, December 7th at 6:30 P.M. in the church. Present members and anyone new are encouraged to attend! GIVING TREE Once again this year our parishes at Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity will be participating in the Christmas project of the Community Maternity Services through Catholic Charities of the Albany Diocese. Tags are available at both churches. Please put your gifts in a gift bag rather than a box. We ask that all gifts be returned by December 12th. Thank you once again for your support. As we prepare for the season of Advent, let us ask ourselves what are we doing to prevent the anxieties of daily life from looking for Christ? How can my family prepare ourselves for Jesus coming? The children will be bringing home an advent calendar this weekend, I encourage all families to participate in at least one activity each week to help our children understand the true meaning of Christmas. The children and youth in our Faith Formation program will be celebrating Jesus birth with a pageant, carols and refreshments on Sunday, December 18 th beginning at 9:05 A.M. I would like to invite all families to join us in the parish hall for The Adult Faith Formation Committee will meet Friday, December 9th at 2:00 P.M. in the Holy Trinity The Holy Trinity Men s Dinner Group will meet on December 6th. Social hour will begin at 5:00 P.M. with a ham dinner to follow. The speaker this month is Fulton County Sherriff, Richard Giardino. All men are welcome to attend. OPLATKY wafers are available at the handicap ramp inside the Church at Holy Trinity and in the Church of the Holy Spirit after Masses. Donation is $1.00. You may also stop by the Parish Offices to purchase your Christmas wafers. OUR COUNTRY NEEDS OUR PRAYERS: Please join us to pray the Rosary to Our Lady of Fatima on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 A.M. at the Trackside Homes meeting room in Johnstown. This group is not a part of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society. We are a group of men and women who have come together to pray for our country to Our Lady of Fatima and to follow her please call BLOOD DRIVE will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit on Wed, Dec. 14th., 1:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. in the gym. To schedule an appointment BINGO WORKERS: The Holy Name Society is scheduled on 12/10. SEND YOUR PRAYERS TO THE WESTERN WALL One of our parishioners, Gerard McAuliffe, will be making a trip to Israel in December of this year. He will be visiting the Western Wall in Jerusalem and has offered to bring our prayers with him! If you would like Gerard to bring your prayers to the Wall, write them down on a small note card and drop them off at the Holy Trinity Office or you may put them in a sealed envelope labeled with prayers for the wall and drop them in the collection basket by Sunday, December 18th.
