The words of Jesus' disciples in today's Gospel must sound familiar. At some point in our lives, you and I have said it about some article of our faith. Christianity makes firm demands on our ethical behavior and gives no easy answers for suffering. Many disciples were confused and dismayed by Jesus' words in the Bread of Life Discourse. Not all of them, however, had the same reaction. When the disciples question Jesus' teaching, he confirms its truth. "The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life." For some, Jesus' reassurance was not enough. These disciples do not question Jesus further or wrestle with their lack of understanding. The mighty deeds Jesus has done fade to the background. "Many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him." For them, their doubt proves too much. Jesus turns to the Twelve, knowing that confusion lives in their hearts as well. Peter answers. "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." Notice this is not a confession of perfect understanding. It is a confession of faith in Jesus. The precise words may still confuse them, but they believe the One who said them. In our own lives, we face doubt, confusion, and disillusionment in our Christian faith. The same choice available to the disciples is available to us. Do you have faith in Jesus, even when you lack perfect understanding? Will you stay or will you go? What do you do with your doubt? To contact our staff, the parish at or access the addresses above for Ann Simonson and Cindy Kollar. We would like to wish all students a wonderful year as they return to school & college in the next few weeks. FREE BOOKS: Over the next few weeks, there will be tables set up in the breezeway with free books for anyone to take. As the tables empty, we will fill them back up until the books are gone. FRIDAY S TABLE: During the entire month of September, the Hannaford Market in Gloversville will donate $1.00 for every reusable Fight Hunger bag that is purchased. We all use them and can certainly use more. Please encourage your family and friends to buy the Fight Hunger reusable bag at Hannaford in September. The Hannaford Market has always been very generous to the Friday s Table Program. When in the store, please express your gratitude. The National Shrine of St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Fonda, NY is celebrating its 80th Anniversary. We will be hosting a Gala Celebration honoring the Most Reverend Edward Scharfenberger, Bishop of Albany on Oct. 17th, at the River Stone Manor in Glenville from 6:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M.. Be Sure Register for Hearts Aflame Hearts Aflame is only a few weeks away! It is important to register in advance. This historic gathering is for everyone in our diocese. Led by Bishop Scharfenberger, the event s primary focus is on our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. It is a time of joy, fellowship, prayer, and unity. This will be a time of spiritual renewal for our whole diocese. Register at rcda.org/heartsaflame or pick up a registration form at the entrance of the churches or in the parish offices. The Holy Trinity Rosary Society will meet on Tuesday, September 4th at 6:30 P.M. in the hall meeting room. All members are requested to attend. Save the date: Holy Trinity Parish Pork Dinner will be Sunday, September 30th. SISTERS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Sisters are sponsoring a Smith s Pie Sale to benefit the many programs we donate to throughout the year. The order form is due by Sept. 17 and are available in the Parish Office. Faith Formation and the Sisters of the Holy Spirit are taking donations to purchase and fill the bookcase with new religious books for our children. Please make checks payable to Sisters of the Holy Spirit-Books and drop it into the offertory basket or parish office. We will be sure to list all the books purchased in early November. Our next meeting will be September 10, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. Please invite a friend who enjoys community service in our Church, and socializing with other members! All are welcome! Please remember to bring travel sized product for the shelter. Holy Trinity Parish is looking for a few strong men/women who could help trim trees and shrubs at St. Patrick s cemetery. We would need you to bring your tree trimmers and brush cutters.
