Discipleship requires both renunciation and calculation. Those who wish to follow Jesus must renounce everyone and everything that gets in the way of a single-minded response to Jesus invitation to be his disciple. At the same time, disciples are not naively to follow Jesus. They must calculate and consent to the cost the price is giving their all, even their own life. What the One who calls gives disciples in return, however, is beyond calculation fullness of new Life. At Communion time, go in the line where the presiding priest is and tell him you need a gluten-free host. The priest will administer the Holy gluten-free communion to you. Remember to say Amen to complete receiving the Eucharist. CHILDREN S BULLETIN: this week deals with The Cost of Being a Disciple. Please take a few minutes and share the activities with your children. These bulletins are available as you enter the Church. PRAYING FOR OUR SICK: If you would like the parish to pray for someone who is sick, please write their name of the sick person in the book located at entrance to the church on Clinton Street. We remember all the sick at all Masses in our church and any other intention you write down in this book.

Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple." - Lk 14:25-27 FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator ckollar@holytrinityjohnstown.com Our Faith Formation program for will begin Sunday, September 22, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Every child who was in our program this past year will automatically be re-registered. If you have a child who will be new to our Faith Formation Program, please call the parish office at to register your child. Registration forms will be available at the entrances of our church, or we will be happy to mail you a registration form. Please return all forms to the Faith Formation office. Our Kindergarten registration class size is limited. If you have a child in this age group, please register early. Elementary Faith Formation: Classes will begin Sunday, September 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. (or immediately following the 8:00 a.m. Mass, if that is the Mass you normally attend). Youth Ministry Program : Grades 7-10 will begin classes on Sunday, September 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The youth will once again attend our 10:30 a.m. Mass with their class. CONFIRMATION PARENTS MEETING: Monday, Sept. 16 th, 7:00 p.m. in parish center hall. TRAFFIC CONTROL: With Faith Formation classes beginning soon we would like to remind everyone that Glebe Street is one way from Clinton Street to Prospect Street during mass time. Please use extra caution for the safety of all. Catechetical Sunday is September 15 The theme returns us to the Year of Faith This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 15, 2013, and will focus on the theme "Open the Door of Faith.". Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. SECOND COLLECTION WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 7/8 IS FOR FAITH FORMATION EDUCATION STEWARDSHIP: Due to early transmission of our bulletin for Labor Day, collection information for weekend of August 31 st and September 1 st will be included the our bulletin the weekend of September 13/14. 3 Without change, something sleeps inside us and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken. - Frank Herbert Life is not easy, but God is always with me to help me along the way. I imagine what it was like as a toddler learning to walk. I must have felt some fear. Yet I let go of my parent s hand in order to experience the freedom of moving about on my own. The powerful spirit of God within me was inspiring me on. As an adult, I know that letting go of a child, a spouse, or a parent is never easy. Whenever a temporary separation comes, I may feel a tug on the vital connection that has kept us close. If the separation is more than temporary, I may feel as if it is the hardest thing I have ever done. But this I know: God is with me so that I and my loved ones will never go through anything alone. We will never be without the love and comfort of God. Because the divine Presence is with me, I am never alone. THE JOHNSTOWN FOOD PANTRY IS IN NEED OF FOOD!!! We do not have another food drive until the Boy Scouts Drive in November. We are helping about 200 clients a month. Some of the items needed are: any type of pasta, chunky soups, fruit or canned meals: ravioli, spaghetti O s. etc. Canned meats: tuna, chicken, ham. etc., peanut butter & jelly. Other needed items are cereal, instant oatmeal, spaghetti sauce, boxed dinners (hamburger/tuna helper, etc). Plastic and cans are preferable over glass jars. All food items must be non-perishable. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated. The Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. for anyone who is in need. Thank you for your support and generous donations of food, for those in need. ~ Tom & Kathy Mickel PARISH OUTREACH COMMITTEE: We thank you for your generosity for Mother Teresa s Closet. We continue to ask for donations of all basic household supplies. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. 4 TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME DIOCESAN & COMMUNITY NEWS: FLOOD VICTIMS BENEFIT: The Knights of Columbus of Broadalbin will be holding a dinner at Our Lady of Hope St. Johnsville Hall on Center Street on Saturday, September 14th, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to benefit the recent flood victims. This dinner is an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord open to the public. Takeouts will be available. Tickets will be sold at the door that day for only $12 per person. Please mark your calendar and plan on joining us. Invite your family & friends too! Eucharistic Procession for the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. Please join Schenectady churches and churches from the surrounding area for our 2 nd Eucharistic Procession as we pray for religious liberty and the end of abortion. According to the Directory of Popular Piety and the Liturgy, processions are a manifestation of the faith of the people. They often have cultural connotations and are capable of re-awakening the religious sense of the people. In this way, they are a form of preaching, expressing and stirring up our faith. The Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross reminds us to rejoice in Christ s victory on the cross as well as our own victory through His cross in our willingness to embrace our own daily crosses. The Procession will begin at 6:00 P.M. from St. Luke s Church, 1241 State Street, Schenectady. Fr. Dominic Isopo of St. Luke s Parish will lead the procession, along with other priests and deacons. There will be the recitation of the rosary and Eucharistic and patriotic hymns. Please plan to join our priests, religious, Knights of Columbus, and the Diocesan Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Bring your family and friends and any groups you re involved with, in a memorable candlelight procession honoring our Lord in His Eucharistic presence and sharing His graces with the community. AREA CROP WALK FOR HUNGER: The annual Gloversville/Johnstown Crop (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty), walk will take place on Sunday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m. Registration time is 12:00 noon. This project is sponsored by Church World Services. The walk will cover approximately 2-1/2 miles starting at the Johnstown Reformed Church, 351 N. Perry St., Johnstown. Did you know that 25 % of the money raised is returned to the area to help support the Johnstown and Gloversville food pantries. You can visit their website for additional information about CROP Hunger Walks. Our goal this year is to increase the number of walkers in an effort to make the public more aware of our efforts and also to increase the amount of funds raised to help address the issue of hunger in our community and in communities around the world. This early request is an effort to get the information to you in time for you to get it on your calendar. Packet with information and donor forms are located at the entrances of our church.
