LECTORS AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS at Holy Spirit are asked to pick up the new assignment schedules if they have not already done so. 100th Anniversary of the founding of St. Anthony of Padua Parish October 2015 was the 100th Anniversary of the founding of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Johnstown. Many of our ancestors were involved in the hard work of building this new parish so that those of Slovak heritage would have a place to come together to worship God. It seems fitting that we should celebrate this occasion with a heritage festival. We are asking for volunteers to form a committee to plan this celebration to be held sometime in the spring. Please consider coming together to plan this event. If you can serve or are willing to chair this event, please call the parish office at Question: The Bible says Jesus was like us in all things but sin. I was also taught in Sunday school that Jesus was fully human. But how can we say that he is fully human if he never sinned? To err is human. It just seems to me that his lack of sin puts him into some other category than fully human. Answer: Your question shows you may be considering things backwards. It is Jesus who is fully and perfectly human. It is we who are less than perfectly human. This is due to the wounded nature we have as a result of Original Sin. Jesus is the model; we are not, and we must resist any tendency to seek to refashion him in our likeness. Rather, he shows us what it means to be fully complete and lacking in nothing as a human being; we are summoned to his likeness. Scripture says, What we shall one day be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is (1Jn 3:2). Even now, if we are faithful, our human nature, currently wounded (especially in terms of a darkened intellect and a weakened will) will experience growing healing as we make our journey with God in grace. And, in heaven all the wounds to our soul and body (at the resurrection of the dead) will be fully healed. The expression To err is human is neither biblical nor theological. Further, it does not speak to our nature per se but simply records our tendency, in our currently fallen or wounded state, to easily sin and be mistaken.

4 CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Karen Hoose, Director of Faith Formation Second Sunday in Ordinary Time HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator No Faith Formation Classes Week of January 17: Regular classes will not meet today because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday but Grades 6-10 will attend the 11:00 A.M. mass together. First Eucharist Parent Meeting: For the next two Sundays, January 24 and January 31, the parents of the children preparing for First Eucharist will be attending parent sessions to help them deepen their own faith and understanding of the sacrament so they can better prepare their children. The session will run at the same time as the children s, 9:40 A.M.-10:45 A.M. Save the Date! Sunday, February 7 th, Café Chocolat will once again be coming to our faith community. It is a fundraiser for our Emmaus retreat for the 10 th grade Confirmation Candidates. It will be held in the Holy Spirit Parish Hall from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. Tickets are $5.00 and will buy you 10 homemade, mouth watering chocolate cookies, candies and desserts. There will also be baskets to raffle. Next Sunday there will be an insert in the bulletin if you would like to sign up to bake your favorite chocolate recipe and donate it to Café Chocolat. There will be no Faith Formation Sunday, January 17th, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Please support the Holy Trinity Parish Confirmation class pancake breakfast on Sunday, January 24th from 8:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. The cost is $6.00 per adult, $3.00 under ten. Tickets will be sold after all masses. Sunday, January 31st the fourth grade class will participate in the 10:30 A.M. Mass. The children will serve as lectors, ushers and altar servers. Sunday, February 7th, the Confirmation Class will celebrate the Rite of Enrollment at the 10:30 A.M. Mass. The candidates will have the opportunity to state publicly before the community that they are in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Holy Trinity Rosary Society will meet on Tuesday, February 2nd at 6:30 P.M. in the parish office meeting room. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Each year from January 18-25, many Christian denominations will celebrate a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This week used to be called Christian Unity Octave. The word "octave," meaning eight days, denotes a Christian week. Since the early part of the last century, the week has been taken up by many Christians the world over. It is a week in which we all pray for unity of not only our faith and works, but furthermore a week to pray that we all may be one in our solidarity. This year's theme will be "Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord" (cf. 1 Pt 2:9).
