Saturday at Holy Spirit AND First Wednesday of the Month following devotions, alternating monthly between the parishes. PASTOR S MESSAGE: 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time "Son of David, have pity on me!" Has the cry of Bartimaeus ever escaped your lips? Today's Gospel tells the story of a blind man with a difficult lot in life. He made a living by begging coins off passing travelers. When word reaches him that Jesus will be passing by, this is when he begins His shouts for mercy. Jesus hears Bartimaeus' cry and beckons him forward. "What do you want me to do for you?" Last week, Jesus asked a similar question to James and John. Their response was a clutch for fame. Bartimaeus' response is much humbler. "Lord, I want to see." How strange this interaction must have seemed to the onlookers. The man is blind! Of course he wants to see! But Jesus is always teaching us. By asking us what we want, Jesus reveals the dispositions of our hearts. God already knows them, but do we? By asking James and John to name their ambition, their selfishness is exposed to them and to the other disciples. By asking Bartimaeus to name his longing, his faith is exposed to the entire crowd. Jesus invites participation in our own redemption. He doesn't save us without us! Take some time in silent prayer today. Place yourself in this story of Bartimaeus. Imagine yourself there on the dusty, crowded roadside. Jesus is calling you! When you stand before him, his focus is on you and you alone. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asks. Search your heart. How would you respond? What part of your heart is Jesus asking you to expose? He has come to heal and to restore. May we, too, be sent! "Go... your faith has saved you." An Emergency collection will be taken up this weekend, October 28th for humanitarian aid and the needs of Churches devastated by the storms in the South and Southeast regions of the United States in September and October. This emergency collection is intended to cover needs created by future 2018 domestic storms/calamities. To donate, make your check payable to the parish in the memo potion write: 2018 Disasters Emergency Collection. Our parish will send one check to Catholic Charities and 100 % of the donations will go the 2018 Disasters Collection. Thank you for your continued support and your thoughtful donations. Unique and older items are fast sellers. Thank you to all our volunteers who work so hard at keeping the store opened six days a week. Without all of you there wouldn t be a store! We pay our rent and the rest is given away. All of our profits go to charity. MOTHER TERESA S CLOSET: We are in need of bar soap, deodorant, feminine products, kleenex, paper towels, laundry detergent, cleaners, toilet paper & shampoo. Monetary donations are also welcome. 4 CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Ann Simonson, Faith Formation Coordinator Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator The Mothers of Faith in Action group and the Youth Ministry group will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event for all Faith Formation children and their families Sunday, October 28th, 6:00 P.M.-7:30 P.M. at Holy Spirit parking lot by the school building. We will have a basket in the back of the church for candy if anyone would like to donate for our event. COFFEE AND CONVERSATION WITH FR. MATT will begin on Sunday, November 4th for the parents of children in our faith formation program at Holy Trinity Parish. The first discussion will be The Saints of our Church. Bring you child to Faith Formation and join us in the hall for refreshments and an informal faith sharing or listening session. Sunday, November 4th, we will be having another Teen Mass at Holy Spirit at 6:00 P.M. Grades 9-10 will have class at 7:15 P.M. after the Mass. Grades 6-8, the mass is their class for that day! Families and parishioners are welcome! Sunday, November 11th is Veteran's Day. There will be no classes for grades K-5 in the morning, but there WILL be class for grades 6-10 in the evening. SAVE THE DATE: Annual Vendor/Craft Event will be on Sunday, December 2nd, 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. in the gym. SISTERS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT will meet on Monday, November 5th at 6:30 P.M. in the parish hall. New members are always welcome. ADULT FAITH FORMATION: Would you like to be more prepared for the Sunday liturgy? You are welcome to attend one of our adult groups. Holy Trinity meets on Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. in the Parish Center. Holy Spirit meets on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. in the Café. Please join us! The Holy Trinity Rosary Society will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M. in the hall meeting room. Our next meeting will be Nov. 6th. Our speaker will be Jamie Marshall from RCIL. NEW LECTOR WORKBOOKS are available in the sacristy of Holy Trinity Church. We ask all who lector at Holy Trinity to please stop by and sign out your new copy. The Church of the Holy Spirit is sponsoring a bus trip to Syracuse, NY to visit the Shrine & Museum of Saint Marianne Cope on Monday, October 29 th. The bus will leave the school parking lot at Holy Spirit at 9:00 A.M. We will tour the museum and then travel to Utica, NY to visit St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parishes where Saint Marianne attended. We will walk about a block to a park which marks the house where she once lived. We will have dinner at the Polish Club in Utica and then return to Gloversville. Please call the Office at Holy Spirit to reserve your seat on the bus. The cost will be determined by the number of participants. We recommend you bring a bagged lunch or snack. You will be responsible for the cost of your dinner at the Polish Club. Adoration of Our Lord Praised Be Jesus Christ now and forever. Perpetual Adoration Chapel at Holy Spirit. OUR COUNTRY NEEDS OUR PRAYERS: Please join us to pray the Rosary to Our Lady of Fatima on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 A.M. at the Trackside Homes meeting room in Johnstown. ELECTION NIGHT SPAGHETTI SUPPER: Holy Trinity Parish will sponsor a spaghetti Supper Tues., Nov. 6th 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Parish hall. Cost $8.00 per person, $20.00 per family. Supper will include pasta, meatballs, salad, bread & butter & dessert. Eat in or take out. If you can help over the next few weeks, the days leading up to the dinner and the night of the dinner, please call the office at (518) We are also looking for donations of desserts for the dinner and for baskets to raffle. If you are creative and would like to donate a basket for this raffle, please call the office. Tickets will be on sale this weekend after all masses.
