Home repairs. It can seem like we move so quickly from one thing to the next. Our news comes in sound bites and headlines. How often do we take time for silence, for prayer, for reflection, for wisdom? Jesus warns us of stumbling through life without an adequate sense of where we're going. "Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?" This Sunday's Gospel isn't about fumbling along but offers a self-check on our own motivations. "Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?" Without adequate self-reflection, it's easy to become blind to our own faults. We go through life's motions as our bad habits linger or even increase. We may become increasingly impatient, we may avoid important tasks, we may neglect the emotional needs of our spouse. Perhaps, in the process, we find fault with those around us. In the words of Jesus, "Remove the wooden beam from your own eye first." So how do we know? How can we notice the hidden faults in our lives? "A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of store of evil produces evil." Do you notice certain relationships that have become strained, or situations where you know you don't act your best? Perhaps this is an area where you are acting out of sin, rather than virtue. The truth is, all of us are a mixture of light and dark, vice and virtue. We can't pretend we're perfect! But we also need to take time to pause and prayerfully examine the fruit we're bearing. STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be held at Holy Trinity on Friday evenings during Lent at 5:30 P.M. in the Church. A lite soup supper and a movie will follow stations each week. SATURDAY, APRIL 6TH, Father Matt will lead a Lenten mini-retreat following the First Saturday Mass at 8:30 A.M. at Holy Trinity. The retreat will run from 9:30 A.M.-12:00 Noon. 4 FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Ann Simonson, Faith Formation Coordinator Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator FIRST COMMUNION PARENT MEETING: There will be a First Communion Parent meeting on Sunday, March 3rd, 10:15 A.M.-11:15 A.M. in the back room at Spirit Central. The First Communion candidates will then be presented at the 11:30 A.M. Mass for a blessing. PRAYER ROCKS: The Emmaus Kara Team has made prayer rocks with each student s name on them who will be attending the Emmaus Retreat March 15th-17th. Please take one home with you and pray for that particular teen as he/she prepares to meet Jesus on the Road to Emmaus. The prayer rocks can be found in baskets by each entrance of the church. Please keep the team in your prayers as Jesus works through each of us to help our young people CAFÉ CHOCOLATE was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who helped work or baked something and more importantly thanks to all who came and ate chocolate! We raised $ to go towards our Emmaus Retreat. Please keep these young people in your prayers. LIVING STATIONS: Rehearsals will begin Sunday, March 3rd at 11:30 A.M. in the Church. Faith Formation students in grades 3 and up are invited to participate. HOLY TRINITY ROSARY SOCIETY will be meeting on Tuesday, March 5th at 6:30 P.M. in the meeting room. All members are invited to attend. ADULT FAITH FORMATION: Holy Spirit meets on Tues. at 10:00 A.M. in the Café. Holy Trinity meets on Wed. at 6:30 P.M. in the Parish Center. Please join us! On Wednesday, March 6, we will begin our 33 Days to Morning consecration to Jesus. The program involves a short video and discussion period each week followed by some independent reading during the week. We will meet following Wednesday devotions from 3:45 P.M.-5:15 P.M. beginning in Gloversville in the Café. When devotions move to Johnstown in April, 33 Days will move to Johnstown in the parish office meeting room. Please call the offices to express your interest. We need to order books for the program. Persons wanting to reconsecrate as well as new parishioners are invited to attend. CHOIR: Choir rehearsals for the Holy Thursday and Good Friday liturgies, which will be held this year at Holy Trinity, will begin on Friday, March 8th at 1:30 P.M. in the parish center at Holy Trinity. Anyone interested in taking part in the music ministry for the combined services is cordially invited. Social hour starts at 5:00 P.M. with dinner to follow at 6:00 P.M. $8.00 per person, $20.00 for immediate family. You may obtain tickets at the Holy Trinity parish office or after both masses on Sunday, March 3rd & 10th. A maximum of 130 tickets will be sold. Music will be provided by the Gary McCoy Band, playing traditional Irish Music.
