When we were baptized, we were called to share in His work. Therefore we pledge ourselves to build a community where all are welcomed, loved, needed and appreciated. Divine Mercy Sunday Divine Mercy Sunday a feast day based on the devotion to the Divine Mercy of Jesus that Saint Faustina recorded in her diary. She wrote of the visions and visitations from Jesus and conversations with him. He asked her to paint the vision of His Merciful Divinity being poured from His sacred heart. Join us following the 10:15 Mass to complete the Divine Mercy Novena and in reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Do you have an elderly family member or neighbor who isn't able to get to Mass? Our Eucharistic Minister Team has a weekly schedule of bringing communion to those who can't get to Mass. They read the scripture, pray and offer Holy Communion. Please call the church office if you have any questions.

3 April 8, 2018 Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, NY Page 5 Sister Brigid O Mahoney will be returning to ICC on Sunday, April 15, to give us news about the deaf village in Haiti. She will be speaking during the 10:15 Mass and all are welcome to greet her afterwards at the coffee hour in the social hall. Last year our parish raised funds for the work Sister does, helping the needy. Sister Brigid is from the Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus, teaches at Seton Catholic Central High School and also lead a popular bible study during the week. We will have a second collection at both the Saturday and Sunday Mass that weekend for Sister's projects. Circle of Friends April meeting, Tuesday, April 24 10:30-11:30 cards and conversation 11:30-12:30 lunch! Bring a dish to share! All are welcome. Bring a friend! Mom and Me Saturday, April 28, 12:00-2:00 Bring your mom to a fun craft day with leader Karman Harrington. Karman will guide us through a fun stamping craft project sure to please boys, girls, teens, moms, Grandmas too! Ice cream will be served at this free event. There are order sheets in the vestibule and in the social hall. Please take one home and let our fundraiser be part of your summer flower garden. Orders need to be in by May 1 and the flowers will be available for pick up on Mother s Day weekend, May 12/13. Why not get your mother a lovely hanging basket for Mother s Day? Payment is due when you pick up your flowers. If planning now while we have a layer of snow on the ground stresses you, feel free to wait and purchase your flowers from the abundant selection we will have that weekend as cash and carry. Volunteer Opportunities Greene Food Pantry - We collect non-perishable foods for our local food pantry. May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Meals On Wheels Our volunteers make the deliveries for August & February: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:15am. Call the Parish Office to join our team! Bottle & Can Drive - drop off your refundable items in the bin next to the Rectory garage. St. Pauly Textile collection shed in our parking lot. Donate your unwanted clothes & fabric items & ICC receives 4 cents per pound collected. IGNITE! Men's Conference review The goal is to fire up men s faith, and this years IG- NITE Men's Conference did just that for the 800+ men that attended. Held at the SRC Arena on the Onondaga Community College campus, the day began with Mass with Bishop Cunningham, who spoke about the importance of family and the model of St. Joseph. Not only was St. Joseph the spouse of the Mother of God, he was a man dedicated to his vocation as a father and husband. Each speaker throughout the day brought encouragement on this subject. Dr. Peter Kreeft, a professor of Philosophy from Boston college, said that the family is at the heart of the battlefield in today's culture war. He gave encouragement by saying the single most important thing that can be done is to know who God is and to know that he is not some abstract, far-away force. Father Jason Hage, one of the new young Priest to our Diocese, gave a personal reflection on mercy. Drawing on the words of Pope Francis, he reminded the men that God never tires of forgiving us; it is we who tire of asking for forgiveness. Whatever your faults and flaws may be, he said, don t run from them- they may be leading you to God. Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, a passionate speaker from Portland Oregon, closed the speaking program with a passionate talk on making God the center of family life. He says that relationships must be covenants, not contracts. Be like St. Joseph, and serve, defend and protect the family. He quoted a bit of wisdom by Mark Twain, and told the audience that the two most important days in a person s life are the day you are born...and he day you find out why. For more info, contact Kateri Lickona, , klickona@syrdio.org April is Child Abuse Prevention Month Safe Environments for Our Children Did you know students from Pre-K to Grade 12 in our Catholic School and Faith Formation programs receive Safe Environment training every year as required by the diocesan Child and Youth Protection Policy? Our Safe Environment training addresses each grade level with age- appropriate curriculum to help our children and youth with knowledge that can help keep themselves safe while providing this instruction that is fully consistent with the moral teachings of the Catholic Church. Last year, over 16,000 students received training throughout the diocese. Dear friends, Holy week is over and we are now into the 50 days of the Easter Season, celebrating each day that Jesus came down from the cross and was resurrected from the dead. The Catholic Church sees the mystery of Jesus resurrection as the single greatest Christian feast. It s what our entire faith hinges on! St. Paul said, If Christ had not been raised from the dead, our faith would be empty. (1 Corinthians 15:14) So how can our parish continue the celebration? I think one way is to look at our mission, and renew our pledge to it. We have an eloquent mission statement on the cover of the bulletin, but Pope Francis says that our purpose is to see ourselves as a field hospital. Have you ever seen a field hospital? Sister Alicia Torres, in her article in the Catholic Sun newspaper last week, says that if we check out We are Soldiers or Gone with the Wind, we will get an idea of how messy, earthy, acute, and bold a field hospital really is. And who is it run by? People like you and me. We are called to be attentive to others, access their needs, make decisions. What are our resources? We have people with hands to serve and hearts to love. We have the treasure of the sacraments that can set people free. We have spiritual gifts: wisdom, understanding, counsel and fortitude. We have Jesus Christ, who came to set us free. How has Jesus changed your life? How do you witness that each day? Can you show that somehow, and draw others who may be hurting to the One Person who can set them free? What is Jesus asking of Immaculate Conception this Easter season? Right now... Today... This moment? Sister Alicia encourages us to be men and women who are so impressed by what Jesus has done for us, that we boldly and confidently invite others to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Today, if we silently pray to our loving Father, God can heal the wounds of our heart, open our doors, and free us. God is good. God forgives all. God is an affectionate Father.
