If we are using the phone line other calls will still ring (call waiting) and after 5 rings go to voice mail. So, just because we don t answer it doesn t mean we are not in, it may be we are on the phone (call waiting is not in our skill-set, we ll work on it.) so please leave a message. Because of the fact several of our Lectors & Eucharistic Ministers will be snowbirds soon we are in desperate need for some of you to step forward & help us out as Lectors or Eucharistic Minister. Contact the office, Pat Husband, Joan Trepa or Mary Wentlent if you would like to help us out with this problem.

5 October 18, 2015 Father s Notes A Convert s View I began attending the local Catholic Church, trying to sit in the back pew & not be noticed. In as small of a town where I live that was an unrealistic expectation. Fr. Bryan Sorenson greeted me & welcomed me with warmth & love I came to admire his leadership & service to the parish. The first time I slipped into church, I sat stunned by the power of how he said Mass. The power of the Eucharist was palpable & resonated within me. I wanted to come back again & again. The people of the parish were warm & welcoming. I knew that my worship & experience of God had found a home even if I could not have Communion. Many months passed full of hard work & deep questions. Until one day, the circle became complete. It all became clear, in focus. I experienced the death of a dear patient for whom I had cared for years. I decided that day while driving 25 miles home from my clinic & hospital, that I could not live another day without becoming Catholic. I pondered about the truths in life. I knew that life is too precious & is far too short to not experience God completely. My heart cried out for more. I was Catholic in my heart. I wanted to be completely Catholic in my soul. The Lenten season remained my Exodus until Holy Week to bring me home into the Catholic Church on Easter My joy has not ceased. The depth & faithfulness of Christ s One, Holy, Catholic, & Apostolic Church has given me all that my heart has yearned for in my life. My faith is like the Sacred Circle, a path woven together into unity, harmony & balance. I am most grateful. Robin Peterson-Lund, Family Nurse Practitioner, former Episcopalian & convert to the Catholic Church World Mission Sunday This weekend we celebrate World Mission Sunday. This year we are invited to support the 1,150 of the youngest diocese in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Your prayers & generous gifts to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in the collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local diocese, and support the work of priests, religious, & lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Go out to the whole world through your gift in today s collection! Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 3 Project Rachel Ministry - Do you have unresolved feeling about an abortion? You are not alone. Contact Project Rachel Ministry, toll free or hopeandhealing@syrdio.org. This confidential ministry is there to help begin your healing process. God loves you & offers hope & reconciliation. Peace starts here. Word of Life We are meant to be interdependent, to serve each other in humility, and to walk together in suffering. Maggie s Story: Living Like Dad For Faith Within the Family Lord Jesus, you have shown us that faith is a family affair. Faith flourished in your small family, then burst into the world. For times when our family has excluded you from our presence, we ask your forgiveness. For family moments touched with holiness, we give you thanks and praise. Guide our family to trust you with all events of life. For family members who resist your call, endow us with enduring love and patience. May we always welcome you within our midst as we discover you in one another. Amen Fr. Leonard Foley, OFM & Patti Normile Wisdom from our Catholic Tradition Peace begins with a smile. Smile five times a day at someone you don t really want to smile at, do it for peace. Let us radiate the peace of God and so light God s light and extinguish in the world and in the hears of all persons all hatred and love for power. Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta An October Prayer Thank you, generous Creator, for the autumn leaves. What a wonderful gift to give us as we await with some trepidation the onset of winter. The dying of the trees and flowers reminds us of our own mortality and we feel the cold breath of time blowing past us. And you, knowing our weakness and fear, give us this glorious gift of beauty - not just one magnificent tree, but a world full of glowing leaves! You remind us of your boundless, profligate generosity, of your power to bring beauty out of every situation. Help me to commit my life and my hope to your loving care. Amen. Denise Barker

6 Adult Bible Study: Sunday 9-10 am in the Parish Hall The Thursday morning Bible Study is learning about the Book of Acts. If you can join us this Thursday, read chapter 3. We meet at 9:15 for coffee and a snack and the study last from 9:30-10:45. New people are always welcome!! If you are finished with your "33 Days to Morning Glory" home retreat, please return your book to the table in the back of the church for others to enjoy. Thank you! RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - Pope Francis, in his recent visit to our country, has opened wide the doors of the Church. In an expansive spirit of welcome, we would like to invite those who feel called to follow the call of discipleship to join us on our journey of faith. Join us after Mass on November 1 to talk with Father Lupa and some parish volunteers about joining the Catholic Church. We will met in the cry room, just off the vestibule entrance to the church. If anyone you know has an interest in becoming Catholic, invite them to attend these informal discussions. Pope Francis continued his message of the importance of evangelization when he visited our country a few weeks ago. Our parish would like to act on this in a real and tangible way. We are looking for people who would like to work together to find dynamic ways of inviting people into relationship with Christ in our community. Join me in discussion of what we can do as a parish to promote a spirit of invitation and welcome as a faith community. I would especially like younger families ideas and thoughts. Please me or call me with your thoughts and comments. I am open conversations as well! Thank you! ~Mary Wentlent Religious Education Kathy Nichols, Coordinator Sundays 8:45-10:00 am The Last Sunday in October, 10/25, will be our first Youth Mass of the year. The youth of the parish will be participating in many ways; greeters, ushers, lector to name a few. Please plan to join us for this upbeat celebration of the Mass. There will be a coffee hour afterwards. See you then! Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 4 Dear friends, I never knew my maternal grandmother, but I heard lots of stories from my mother. Her wedding dress from 1935 was worn in the Ladies Fashion Show a few weeks ago by my daughter Grace, and I hope my grandmother was smiling down on us. One theme in the stories my mother told was how much Grandmother Julia loved her church in S.C. She was active in every committee. Her family had to get to church first on Sunday morning to make sure all the doors were unlocked and the bathrooms had toilet paper! If the youth needed a ride to roller skating, my grandmother took them in her station wagon! I think it s these endearing stories that draw me to the seniors of our parish. We have many older parishioners who really love their church!! Last Sunday we celebrated another 90 th Birthday. Angie Babcock s family participated in the Mass as readers and also altar servers! The party afterwards was nothing short of wonderful! Father Lupa gave a perfect blessing to her and Rita Kroon, our other birthday girl who celebrated her 90 th birthday this summer. I asked these two ladies to give us some advice on life. Rita s advice is to keep a smile on your face and just take each day as it comes. Don t get too bogged down worrying about this and that. Try to live life to its fullest, and keep a positive attitude!! Rita says she couldn t have done anything without the man upstairs. She has a strong faith in God and takes her church support seriously, always asking if she can do something to help! Angie s advice is to take your prayer life seriously! It has meant so much to her over her life, knowing God loves her and is listening to her prayers. Her favorite is the rosary to our Blessed Mother. She was once called a praying mantis! She says that when we get anxious and worried, we should give it up to God. Then accept the peace that God will take care of things, in his own way. Both ladies feel that the friends they made at church lasted their whole life and mean so much to them. Thanks for the advice Angie and Rita! Have a blessed week. Peace!~Mary Wentlent iccgreene.wordpress.com - Don t forget to check out our website to access the bulletin and our schedule of upcoming events
