3 August 13, 2017 Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, NY Page Fall Ladies Tea Happy Days Plans are underway for the 4th annual Fall Ladies Luncheon. This year the luncheon will be held on Sunday, September 17 beginning right after Mass with lunch followed by a fashion show of some favorite 70 s sitcoms. Again, we are asking for 10 volunteers to be table leaders. Each table leader will receive 8 tickets in an envelope. You would then ask 7 other people to sit at your table and sell them a ticket for $9. All envelopes with money received should be turned in on the day of the fashion show to one of the committee members. There will also be raffle baskets available. If you can be a table leader or would like to donate a raffle basket, please sign up in the vestibule. Tickets will be available soon. Volunteer Opportunities Greene Food Pantry - We collect non-perishable foods for our local food pantry. May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Bottle & Can Drive - drop off your refundable items n the bin next to the Rectory garage. St. Pauly Textile collection shed in our parking lot. Donate your unwanted clothes & fabric items & ICC receives 4 cents per pound collected. Around the Southern Tier Men In Black Softball Game On August 13th at 6pm, the Men In Black team of priests and seminarians will play a softball game against the youth from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Endicott, at Glendale Park in Endicott. With fan participation and interactive games, it is fun for the whole family and admission is free. I also knew that I could chose to accept or reject this grace. By Your grace, I chose to seek reception in the Catholic Church. I returned to campus as the clock struck one o clock. When I awoke the next morning, I did no go the Presbyterian Church of America service but instead attended Mass at the Aquinas Institute. I continued attending daily Mass & my instructions with Fr. McCloskey. On December 8, 1987, I made my first confession, was confirmed, & received my First Communion at the 7:30 Mass in the Princeton University Chapel. And from His fullness have we all received grace upon grace (John 1:16). Grace upon grace, a Blessed Trinity, grace upon grace! If any one of the events described above had not occurred, would I be a Catholic today? And You know, O Lord Christ, how utterly impoverished I would be without frequent encounters with You in Confession and Communion, how blind my intellect would be without the teaching of Your Vicar on Earth, the pope, and how tepid my heart would be without the graces granted through Eucharistic adoration and devotion to Our Lady. Jeffrey Ziegler, former Presbyterian and convert to the Catholic Church The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process used by the Church for adults who are interested in becoming Catholic. Possible candidates for the process are: Unbaptized adults who wish to become members of our Roman Catholic Faith Community; Baptized adults form other denominations who desire full communion with us; Baptized Catholics who have not been instructed in the Faith. (This process is not designed for Fallen Away Catholics. If you know someone who fits into this group, please have them contact Father Lupa. ) Step one of RCIA concerns the basic teachings of our faith in Jesus Christ. We will begin the sessions in January. If you or someone you know is interested or if you have any questions of concerns, please feel free to call the parish We are looking for 4 new teachers for our CCD program. We are using a teaching friendly curriculum that follows the liturgical calendar, which means the readings heard in Mass are part of the weekly lesson! Our classes will meet on Sunday mornings from 9-10:00 am. If you would like to join this ministry please contact one of the DRE s or Mary Wentlent. CCD registration for children in grades K-10 You can register your child in two ways: 1-) Go to the ICC website and download the registration form, fill it out and drop it at the church office. 2-) Stop after Mass on Sunday, August 27 or September 3 to register in person. All those interested in being part of the CCD team this year are requested to attend a short meeting on Sunday August 27 from 4:30-5:00. Following this meeting will be a workshop presented by Andrea Schaeffer called Heart of the Catechist, from 5-8:00. This is a great way to start the fall preparing ourselves for the ministry of teaching religious education to our children. Formation for Ministry This is a training program for anyone interested in being a lay minister in their parish. Some participants know the area they are interested in and others aren t sure, but go into the program considering all of their options. Some folks want to work with the youth, some feel called to children s religious education, some are concerned with social justice, some feel a calling to help with the elderly and homebound, and some are considering being a Deacon, of which this is the first step. Other areas are parish administration and RCIA for adults joining the church. Put some prayerful thought into how God may be calling you to help others in our parish and in our community. If you feel you are interested in this program there is a 2-year commitment. The classes are in 6-week segments and meet in Endicott for anyone in the Southern Tier. This includes 2 workshops & an overnight retreat. The parish will pay half the cost of the program. Bonnie Norton is currently training. Three parishioners recently completed this FFM training. If you are interested in pursuing a ministry please call the church office for more information.

Young Adults Connect Keeping Friendships Strong...To not take that short list [of close friends] for granted because that same thing is happening to all of them. Just as you get older, you have less and less time that you can dedicate to certain things. And if you do have one or two or three people that you can turn to and have a really meaningful conversation with you can never take that for granted.
