3 December 6, 2015 Senior Christmas Party hosted by the ICC Circle of Friends!! All seniors are invited to this months get together on Wednesday, December 9 beginning at 10:30 a. Come for fellowship, a game of cards or a special Christmas Trivia Game! As always, you are welcome to bring an item for lunch to be shared by all. Wear your favorite Christmas Sweater! Hometown Holiday Weekend began Friday, 12/ 4, with a lighting of the town Christmas Tree and concludes Sunday Evening with a Chamber Singers Concert, 4:00 pm at the Congregational Church The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Our Feast Day! Join us for our Feast Day Mass on Tuesday Dec. 8th, 6:30, followed by dessert and a glass of wine in the church hall. This marks the beginning of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, requested by Pope Francis. Bring your baby Jesus from your home Manger scene on the weekend of Dec. 12 and 13 for a special blessing by Father Lupa. Pope Francis has designated the third Sunday of Advent (Latare Sunday) as a time when parishes across the world can join together for a Blessing of the Bambinelli. We will have some small figurines of baby Jesus in the Manger for those who do not bring one but still want to participate in this special blessing. "The Light is on for You" A special Diocesan wide Penance Service, Monday, December 14th. Fr. Lupa will hear confession here at ICC from 4-5:30 pm & at St. Joseph from 6-7:30 pm. Examination of Conscience literature is available in the vestibule. Christmas Cookie Platters for sale by the parish youth as a fundraiser for their retreat in June. $5.00 per small platter; available after Mass on Dec. 19/ Boxed Offering Envelopes will be available about the middle of December. If you are no longer using your set, please notify the Parish Office ASAP. Using the envelopes is a good way to manage your tithing and upon request we will mail you a year-end statement each January. May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Meals On Wheels Our volunteers make the deliveries for August & February: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:15am. Our Brother s Keeper We take donations of CLEAN blankets, quilts, sheets, towels, batting & fiber fill. & yarn. Please bag the items. 5 December 6, 2015 Father s Notes This year s Immaculata Award from ICC is being given to Joan Trepa. We thank Joan for her many, many years of ministry at our parish, and for her constant faith and devotion to helping others. Joan has been a member of our parish since October of Over the past 52 years she has been a part of the following ministry s: 10 th and 12 th grade religious ed. teacher back when it was held at the H.S. Altar Rosary Society. Co-leader of a group of young people called the Reality Group. This collection of about 45 kids from Greene and the surrounding area met at her home to pray, sing and just talk about the Lord. Parish Council member. RCIA leader in the parish. Adult choir, which was led by her husband, the late Deacon John Trepa. Became a sounding board and typist for John as he prepared his homilies. In partnership with John: Coordinated a Marriage Encounter program Leader of a Renew group in their home. Taught pre-cana at parishes in the Southern Tier. Youth Choir leader (John as accompanist.) Attended all Formation for Ministry classes with John, focusing on Family Life in the Parish. Attended Diaconate Formation classes with John. Baptism Preparation for new families. Joan currently coordinates funerals at the parish; helping families plan the funeral Mass for their loved ones, is on the Eucharistic Minister Team at Mass and for the elderly at home, is on the Lector Team, and leads the Thursday morning Communion Service/Prayer group Joan says that God has been very good to her and has not allowed her to sit still in her old age. To this she says, Thank you, Jesus! Joan feels our parish has many unsung Heroes and that we should have a Hero of the Week column in our weekly bulletin. Authentic prayer changes us - unmasks us - strips us - indicates where growth is needed. Authentic prayer never leads to complacency, but needles us - makes us uneasy at times. Our parish youth will be join in to deliver Rotary Christmas Baskets Saturday, Dec. 19, 8:00 am Children's Christmas Pageant at the family Mass on Christmas Eve at the conclusion of Mass. All children up to 5th grade are invited to be the Holy Family, angels, shepherds and wise men. Please sign-up in the vestibule. Family and friends are welcome to participate. Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 4 Dear friends, The Immaculata Award is given each year to a volunteer at the local parishes in our Diocese, as a thank you from our Bishop. It would be ideal if each parish could nominate at least 50 individuals. That way, our parish could recognize all at once, those who have helped to make us so successful. This of course, isn t realistic because there are over 100 parishes in our Diocese! We will just have to nominate one person per year and slowly make our way through the long list of parishioners who not only volunteer, but also see their role as a ministry. This year, the Immaculata Award from ICC will be given to Joan Trepa. Some of you may think she is a forthright person and knowledgeable on most Catholic topics. You would be right! Joan has been a member of our parish since She was married to the love of her life, the late Deacon John Trepa and they have 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Joan has been involved with many aspects of the parish from choirs, to study groups, from baking for funeral receptions to just trying to be helpful where ever needed. I remember when we first moved here and I helped organize a bake sale at the Great American in town. Joan was entering the store when she stopped and asked me why I hadn t called her to bake something! She was genuinely disappointed! I learned my lesson and don t hesitate to call Joan and ask her for help and guidance with many aspects of parish life. I asked her to write down what all she has done in the parish and decided to print it in the bulletin for all to enjoy. I hope you will read it with a smile on your face and joy in your heart for a senior parishioner who has loved this parish for the majority of her life.
