April is Child Abuse Prevention Month Safe Environments for Our Children Audit Compliance The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) requires all dioceses in the United States to undergo yearly audits to verify their compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Since 2003, the Diocese of Syracuse has been found compliant with all audited articles within the Charter. Passing the audit for the 15th year not only reflects the quality of the Safe Environment training programs offered, but more importantly, reflects the commitment and dedication of all clergy, religious, diocesan/parish employees, and volunteers who play a significant role in maintaining safe environments for all children and youth across the diocese (40,000 to date!) Dear friends, Most of you know the Catholic Church has a new landscape, as Msgr. Lang, Vicar of Parishes would say. We are in the midst of change, and are encouraged on the parish level to do three things: 1- Have the vision of a committed disciple (as we experienced last Sunday hearing and being part of Sister Brigid s work in Haiti!). 2- Support the vitality of the parish (as ICC shows with over 50 families volunteering in various ways!) 3- Have robust prudent stewardship (as we see in the weekly collections to help support the parish and its programs!) Leaders in our parish have been invited to attend a Diocesan presentation in a few weeks titled: Disciples in Mission, with ideas on parish and PCA planning. What does all that mean to the parish member? Basically that the future will see more lay people in leadership and pastoral roles. The Priest can no longer be expected to do everything himself, as most are covering two or even three churches. Those days are over and we need to embrace the new landscape and ask, What can I do to help? We need individuals to attend the excellent Formation for Ministry program, which begins a new class in September. This will help you answer the question of how can you be a disciple of Christ? What part of the parish life fits your skills and interest? Perhaps you prefer the flip side - support the parish by attending events, coffee hours, Masses, fundraisers and other parish functions. Are you unsure? Does the voice in the back of your head say, Hmmm I don t think so! Deacon Tim reminded us in his weekly study, that the devil is working overtime to persuade us to quit in despair. If you are unsure of your role as a disciple, Deacon Tim suggest you let the Bible inspire you. Find a quiet moment in your day, use a daily devotional or find the book of Psalms in the Bible and read for a bit! Deacon Tim shared in his final lesson that we need to find time to rest in the Lord. So open your Bible and let the Scriptures speak to you! Thank you for supporting ICC. Peace!~Mary Wentlent May Devotions at St. James Church, JC every Tuesday, 7 pm, during the month of May. Each Tuesday evening will answer the question, Why do Catholics have Marian devotions? as seen through the eyes of five different saints: St. Louis de Monforte, St. Maximillian Kolbe, St. John Paul II, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Padre Pio. Please join us and share in the devotions to our Mother, Mary. For more information, call Sight & Sound Theater invites you to experience the greatest rescue story of all time! JESUS is the action-packed musical stage adventure that takes you on a miraculous journey alongside the most famous person ever to walk the earth and the everyday people whose lives he changed forever. Please sign-up in the vestibule to join us July 17 for the bus trip to Lancaster, PA to see the show, followed by lunch at Hershey Farms. Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for children. Seating is limited.
