Bring your favorite Chili/soup to share. Eat first, play after! There will be fun prizes and there is no cost to play. This is a fun night to get out with the family and share a laugh or two. Please sign up in the vestibule if you plan to bring food to share. Super Bowl Pool! Once again we are offering a Super Bowl Pool as a winter fundraiser. Tickets are just $25 each and numbers will be assigned once the entire board has been filled in. You can purchase a chance to win after each Mass in January. The board is located in the church hall. Checks can be made out to ICC, with Super Bowl Pool in the memo line. Spread the word to your family and friends. Echoes of Faith Teacher Workshop All CCD teachers are invited to attend a special training class on Scripture sponsored by our Diocese. We will carpool up to New Berlin on Sunday, January 28 right after Mass for this class. For more information contact Gloria Straniero. Wisdom is the breath of the power of God. ( The book of Wisdom chapter 7). Do you want answers to life s problems? Then this Bible Study is for you. Jeff Cavins leads these short 30 minute studies via DVD format. You can choose from two meetings each week, depending on what best suits your schedule. Sunday, Jan. 21, 9-10 am: Thursday, Jan 25, no class. If you miss a session, they are available online so you don t miss out on any treasures learned in class. We will be looking at Proverbs, Sirach, Ecclesiastes, Wisdom, Job and James over the next 8 weeks. Join us anytime! The homework readings for the week of January are: Proverbs 3:9, 13:11,, 28:27 and 29:7, and Sirach 3:30-31, 8:12-13, 31:5-7. If you are unsure how to find these in the Bible, you can always Goggle them! The website usccb.org (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops,) will show you those readings from a Catholic Bible. Dear friends, Each year in the winter, the parents of our Confirmation students are invited to teach the class. Last year the topic was the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and this year it was the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Do you remember what those are? The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and the fear of God. According to St. Thomas Aquinas, these gifts are habits or instincts provided by God to help man in the process of his perfection. The Fruits of the Holy Spirit are charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self control and chastity. Matthew 7:17-20 helps us to understand the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, which are the behaviors we see in people who have allowed the grace of the Holy Spirit to be effective in them. Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:17-20) It was so interesting to see the different lessons our parents came up with. Some showed a Youtube video on their topic, cleverly presented with visual effects and music. Some had a more hands on approach such as a bowl of water to represent the world, with various objects that when tossed in, would create a ripple effect in the water. The water representing the world and the objects, the acts of goodness people can choose to do for others. Clever! Thank you to all the parents for taking the time to prepare and teach those lessons! Of course, life teaches its own lessons, but seeing their parent get up in front of their peers can leave a lasting impact on a teenager. It shows how much they care about their child. Thank you to Gloria Straniero for offering to coordinate our CCD program. I am still waiting to hear from a few people to help out as subs in the classroom. It s easy to think that someone else will volunteer. What if one of our parish children grows up to be a priest that can impact the world in a great way?
