The new chairs have been ordered and will arrive during the week of February 26. We need several strong people to come and help unload the chairs, and the new chair rack. Please call the church office if you can help. The existing folding metal chairs will be for sale for $5 each. You can pick up your chairs anytime during the weekend of February The hall doors will be open at 9 am and this will be first come first serve. Please leave your check in an envelope and leave it in the church office door, clearly marked for the used metal chairs. Please note that the folding metal chairs with the green pad are NOT for sale. We are keeping those for church use. Any questions call the church office. Volunteer Opportunities Greene Food Pantry - We collect non-perishable foods for our local food pantry. May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Meals On Wheels Our volunteers make the deliveries for August & February: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:15am. Call the Parish Office to join our team! Bottle & Can Drive - drop off your refundable items n the bin next to the Rectory garage. St. Pauly Textile collection shed in our parking lot. Donate your unwanted clothes & fabric items & ICC receives 4 cents per pound collected. Our Journey Home beginning Wednesday, February 28, 7-8 pm. Deacon Tim McNerney from Bainbridge/Afton has created a Lenten study. He bases the six onehour sessions out of St. John and St. Agnes, but participants will be able to interact real-time via Google Hangouts. In addition, each session will be recorded and made available on YouTube. Materials will be available electronically: Bible References, Excerpts from the Doctors of the Church, and audio clips from Marcus Grodi s Journey Home podcast. He has found that mixing it up provides all members with opportunities to respond in ways unique to their learning styles. He envisions this format: each participating Catholic Church in Chenango County comes together at their respective church, parish center or other suitable venue with GOOD internet access. We at ICC will use our social hall. A coordinator for each group logs into the Google Hangout and we begin. Mary Wentlent will be our coordinator but is looking for folks to help her. There will be about 40 minutes of actual presentation followed by 20 minutes of discussion on-line with the other churches. After the on-line segment, we will have a local period of sharing and fellowship (with goodies, of course) providing each church group with an additional opportunity to explore the evening s topic. The coordinators will send any feedback via to Dc. Tim who would be able to incorporate it into the upcoming session. Sarah Garone, 1/22/18 Bustedhalo.com 4. Listen without judgment In the midst of a recent family crisis, I received a text from a friend. If you need to talk without any judgment about your situation, let me know. Even though this friend and I aren t that close, her offer of a safe listening ear allowed me the cathartic space to vent. Sometimes, all we need to feel better is the ability to be fully honest about our situation. 5. Clean Grief saps energy as completely as any physical ailment. The last thing a person in crisis wants or needs to think about is mustering the oomph to clean house. You may find a grieving friend initially resists your offer to clean it takes some humility to allow others to see our mess but once accepted, this act of service can provide enormous emotional and practical relief. 6. Provide groceries or household supplies Dinner is always welcome, but there happen to be two other meals most people eat each day, not to mention household items that can t go neglected for too long. Bringing groceries for breakfast and lunch or supplies like paper plates, toothpaste, or toilet paper might actually be more welcome to someone experiencing grief than dinner delivery. There were clues in the different Bible Verses and hidden objects to help them reach their mission, which was to find out what the Israelites needed to escape slavery in Egypt. Many thanks to Jessica and Jim Trepa and the parents who helped with this afternoon of problem solving and service. Confirmation Class, Sunday 4-5 pm: February 11 Thank you to the Confirmation students who helped Jim Trepa build the Shadow Stations frame last Sunday afternoon. This will be used next month for a special Friday night stations of the cross. No Class February 18 & 25. Beginning Friday, February 16 Stations of the Cross will be held here from 6:30-7 pm. Each Friday a different CCD class will be leading the Stations of the Cross. Each host group will use different Stations of the Cross publications. Following Stations there will be refreshments in the social hall. The Stations schedule is: Friday, February 23- led by the 2nd grade class, parents, & teachers Gloria Straniero & Bev Doughty. Friday, March grade Shadow Stations presentation with teachers Jessica & Jim Trepa & Trudy Komperda Friday, March 23-Confirmation Class, parents, & teacher Chris Wentlent Bishop Cunningham announced today the establishment of a voluntary Independent Reconciliation Compensation Program (IRCP) for survivors of clergy sexual abuse. The purpose of the program is to promote reconciliation and further healing of those who were harmed by members of the clergy. There is a copy of his letter to the people of the Syracuse Diocese, in our vestibule. Dear friends, What an honor to welcome the community to our parish on Ash Wednesday. While this isn t a required day to attend Mass, many Christians all over the world gathered in church communities to mark the start of this year s journey through the wilderness.; the season of Lent. We may belong to different churches, but we all believe in a loving God that sent his son into the world to save us. It is better to dwell on the positive that binds us together, than the negative that separates us. Father Paul encouraged us in the last Liturgy Meeting, to let Eucharistic Ministers help lead the Ash Wednesday services, since he and the Deacons in our pastoral care area were not available. I decided to asked Joan Trepa to represent us at the noon service, and she and Steve Northrup planned the evening communion service with ashes. Father always makes sure there are consecrated host in the tabernacle for use at communion services. Thank you to Joan and Steve and everyone else who helped to make this day meaningful. The noon luncheon ended up being quite a lesson in perseverance and resourcefulness. Edilu continued on even with a minor head injury, and then the church refrigerator decided it had had enough! Audrée came to the rescue, relying on a good oldfashioned cooling system - pans of snow and ice in the fridge! We will be looking for a new refrigerator in the church kitchen, and if you have an opinion on this, please share it with me! I am away this weekend visiting my daughters in Boston, but will be back in the office on Wednesday. For some reason, to me, the Lenten Journey is like a second chapter in a book. The first chapter is when Jesus is born, but the second chapter is when Jesus goes into the desert for 40 days. Benedictine Nun Joan Chittester reflects that during Lent, we honor an ancient call to refocus our spiritual lives. We begin the path together. Lent ties us to the past in a way that enables us to know who we are in the present...it is about reaching back to remember who we are even while we keep on becoming more than we were. This lent, join your parish family as we pray, worship and tell the stories again. Thank you for being part of ICC.
