5 The Year of the Family, December 3, 2017 to November 25, 2018 Family Page Embrace your faith everyday. WORD SEARCH Luke24: Copyright Sermons4Kids, Inc. May be reproduced for Ministry Use By Junno Arocho Esteves Catholic News Service Posted on July 14, 2017 VATICAN CITY (CNS) Pope Francis left a not-so -subtle message outside his office in the Domus Sanctae Marthae residence: anyone who is thinking of making a fuss, leave your whining at the door. Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli published a photo on Vatican Insider of a sign posted on the pope s door with the words, No whining. The sign warns potential complainers that offenders are subject to a victim mentality that decreases one s sense of humor and ability to solve problems. The penalty is doubled if the violation takes place in the presence of children. To get the best out of yourself, concentrate on your potential and not on your limitations. Stop complaining and take steps to improve your life, the sign reads. While it may seem like a serious request, the pope found the sign hilarious when it was given to him by Italian life coach and motivational speaker, Dr. Salvo Noe. Complaining and griping about others and about things in one s own life are harmful, he said, because it dashes hope. Don t get into this game of a life of complaints. However, the pope has also said that complaining to God in moments of doubt and fear like Abraham did can be a form of prayer that requires the courage to hope beyond all hope. I won t say that Abraham loses patience, but he complains to the Lord. This is what we learn from our father Abraham: complaining to the Lord is a form of prayer, the pope said Dec. 28 during his weekly general audience. Sometimes I hear confessions where people say, I complained to the Lord. But no. (Continue) to complain; he is a father and this is a form of prayer. Reporting suspected abuse takes courage. However, adults who take a stand and make the call are often responsible for saving a child or vulnerable adult from terrible torment. To report known or suspected neglect or abuse, call the civil authorities or contact Jacqueline Bressette, the Director Safe Environment and Victim Assistance at for any assistance. A Thought To Ponder Father has us for a little over an hour every week. He has a lifetime of information for us. If you spent that time with Jesus would you look at your watch? A very grateful, blessed parishioner...amen. Dear friends, I m not sure when I ve been more happy to see bulbs coming out of the ground! Spring will be welcomed with open arms. A quick walk thru out Marian Garden will leave you anticipating the colors to come. I d like to introduce you to a great group of second graders that make up our First Communion class. I had the opportunity to assist Stephanie in teaching their class while teacher Gloria is out of town. Most of the class are 8 years old. Camille is the only girl in the group and she attends Catholic School in Binghamton during the week. She always has a smile on her face and is eager to answer questions, read a paragraph or laugh at a joke. And she can hold her own with all those boys! She is just a joy! Next is Dante, who joined the church this past fall with his grandmother. He loves to help out whether its lighting the advent wreath, passing out programs or handing out candles at Easter. He is enthusiastic and outgoing and encourages his class to participate in the lessons. Lee is excited to be in class with his good friends from school. He is a big brother at home, and brings those skills to the class. He is helpful and right on task with the activities of the day. Nathan joined this class mid year, but his parents have done an awesome job keeping him up to date on his lessons. He must listen well to his home school lessons, because he was already very familiar with the story we were learning about Moses. Nathan seems to really enjoy this class of good natured friends. Have you ever seen someone whose eyes seem to twinkle when they smile? That s Mason! His polite manners and his twinkling eyes made the morning special. John has strong opinions about his faith and enjoys talking about his Grandpa. He is a little shy as well, but his mom is very encouraging and supportive. Receiving First Communion for the first time can be difficult for a child! We took a field trip out to the sanctuary and first stopped at the statue of the Blessed Mother. They were enthralled with hearing about why Mary is standing on top of the world with her foot on the head of the snake! Then they practiced genuflecting and blessing themselves. Dante led the group in an impromptu round robin... genuflecting before going into the pew, then circling around to practice again! It was such an enjoyable morning, and I felt privileged to share their lessons with this awesome group of children. If you feel called to Children s Ministry, visitors are welcome this month to sit in as a guest in the class and observe the lessons and teacher interaction. Children s Coordinator Gloria Straniero will be back next week and would love to talk to you about joining this team of adults next year. Please pray for our First Communion children. They are such a blessing for our parish family. Peace!~Mary Wentlent
