The congregation of the Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate was founded to promote education for girls in Uganda. African women were denied the opportunity of going to school. In time it was extended to both mixed and boy s schools. And in time the apostolate responded to the spiritual and social needs of their community. This included health services and social work. Friday, July 28, depart ICC 5:30 pm for the 7 pm game. Ticket cost is $7 per person plus concession $. Sign-up in the vestibule by July 23. VIRTUS Certification Class Saturday, July 15, 9-11:30 am. All Religious Ed. Teachers and Aides and any of our current (or future) volunteers - you need to take this course. We will continue to hold these classes as needed. If this one doesn t fit your schedule go to for a schedule of available classes in our area. Bottle & Can Drive on Saturday, July 15, from 8-10:30. All proceeds will benefit Sr. Bridget s efforts in Haiti. If you can help with sorting cans please sign up in the vestibule. It is a great honor to represent the worshipping community by being the Gift Bearers at Mass. 5 July 2, 2017 Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 3 Dear Friends, Since Mary is on a well deserved vacation, she asked me to write my thoughts on the Formation for Ministry Program (FFM) that is offered through the Diocese. The Formation for Ministry Program is a two year program. This sounds very daunting. However, I have just completed the program and found it very enlightening and inspiring. My intent when I started the program was to take one class on Evangelization. I saw the class advertised in the Catholic Sun. I am a cradle Catholic and was uncomfortable talking about my Faith. I thought, how am I ever going to be able to evangelize anyone when I am uncomfortable talking about my faith. I was hoping this class would help me. After spending six weeks in the class I decided I wanted to go deeper and learn more. I signed up for the full program. The courses over the two year program included Foundations of Scripture, Catholicism, Church History, Spirituality of Leadership, Collaborative Ministry, Morality, Sacraments, Evangelization and Pastoral Care. I also took the Liturgy/RCIA course. The classes are six weeks long. I was very fortunate to be able to spend my first year with my fellow parishioners Joe Trepa, Chris and Mary Wentlent and Kathy Anderson from Oxford. It made for some very lively conversations on the car rides home regarding what we had learned in class. You must also participate in one retreat a year. This was a little out of my comfort zone at first. But, the retreats were held at Christ the King Retreat House in Syracuse. The grounds were beautiful, the food was great and the material discussed was about current issues and very thought provoking. During these classes you become very close to your classmates which are a very diverse group of people with different ideas and opinions. Dispersed through the program are workshops. Most of these were facilitated by people who had already completed the FFM program and were sharing programs and ministries that they had initiated in their own parishes. People are so creative with their ministries! Although, I think we do a pretty great job with all the ministries we have here, there is always room for growth and new ideas. With the shortage of Priests, the Church is depending on each of us to use our gifts and talents. Many of us feel we don t have any special gifts. If there is one thing I learned in this program it is every person in this Parish Community is called and gifted by God. This program not only re-educated me but also gave me new insights into my faith. This program also helps you to discern what your gifts might be. Your gifts and talents can lead to a ministry and all ministries bring others to Christ. And guess what? Bringing others to Christ is Evangelization, my initial reason for starting the program! I hope you all consider the Formation for Ministry Program. I am sure you will not be disappointed. Peace! We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Some Thoughts on Independence Day The man must be bad indeed who can look upon the events of the American Revolution without feeling the warmest gratitude toward the great Author of the Universe whose divine interposition was so frequently manifested in our behalf. And it is my earnest prayer that we may so conduct ourselves as to merit a continuance of those blessings with which we have hitherto been favored. Our first President, George Washington
