When we were baptized, we were called to share in His work. Therefore we pledge ourselves to build a community where all are welcomed, loved, needed and appreciated. Hadlick C H U R C H O F T H E I M M A C U L A T E C O N C E P T I O N Marian Memorial Garden The Church of the Immaculate Conception Marian Memorial Garden is a garden, filled with flowers, plants and trees named for Our Lady and Jesus, designed to be a place of beauty that reminds us of our Lord and our Lady, allows one to experience God's creation, and invites prayer and contemplation. Our garden has over 30 flowers, trees and herbs that are connected to legends about Mary s life. All are identified as symbolic and significant in the story of Mary as recounted in the Bible and other Christian stories. The statue of Our Lady of Fatima is central to our garden. If you would like to make a donation to the upkeep of our Marion Garden, please use one of the envelopes found in the vestibule as well as the social hall. Please consider being on the garden team. Weekly watering and care of the spent flowers is usually the only necessary care needed. 3 April 21, 2019 Rita Kroon s Funeral Mass is next Saturday, April 27, 9:30 am. Everyone is invited to join the family for a repast to celebrate her life, Friday, April 26 6-pm in the social hall. Benefit Breakfast for Maureen Kimble, Saturday, May 4, 7:30 10 am hosted by our Knights of Columbus and the Confirmation Class. Maureen has been our keyboard accompanist for many years. We hope to hep her with a donation to offset cost related to her recent illness. Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, NY Page 5 Volunteer Opportunities Greene Food Pantry - We collect non-perishable foods for our local food pantry. May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Meals On Wheels Our volunteers make the deliveries for August & February: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:15am. We could use a few more volunteers..call the Parish Office to join our team! Bottle & Can Drive - drop off your refundable items in the bin next to the Rectory garage. St. Pauly Textile collection shed in our parking lot. Donate your unwanted clothes & fabric items & ICC receives 4 cents per pound collected. Save the Date! The yearly metal drive will be held the entire month of June at the ICC parking lot drop off bin. More information to come. New Parish Directory! The family photo sessions will take place the week of June 19 through the 23. There will be sessions for ministry & parish groups as well. Sign up will begin after weekend Masses on May 4 & 5. New this year is online sign-up, information available soon. All families that participate will receive a $10 off coupon, a free 8x10 portrait, seniors over 60 and all military personnel will receive 20% off their portrait package. Please plan to have your family portrait part of our new directory! Spring Flower Sale! We will once again have a Spring Flower Sale fundraiser at ICC. There are order sheets in the vestibule and in the social hall. Please take one home and let our fundraiser be part of your summer flower garden. Orders need to be in by May 1 and the flowers will be available for pick up on Mother s Day weekend, May 11/12. Why not get your mother a lovely hanging basket for Mother s Day? Payment is due when you pick up your flowers. Feel free to wait and purchase your flowers from the abundant selection we will have that weekend as cash and carry. A Bequest in Your Will, no matter what the amount, can help the parish continue its mission of spreading the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Church He founded & serving God s people. Everyone should have a will no matter what your financial circumstances, to assure that your possessions will be distributed as you desire. The Greene Food Pantry Challenge will continue through the month of April. Please leave your food donations in the social hall vestibule. Checks should be made out to the GAC Food Pantry and left at the parish office or dropped in the collection basket. May is one of the months ICC s teams volunteer at the Food Pantry. Each week we will explore one item, why it s relevant, so you can appreciate the beauty and depth of our Catholic Faith. Sanctuary: From the Latin sanctus (meaning "holy",) the sanctuary is the area clearly different from the rest of the church. It is usually raised up and has the altar at its center. The tabernacle, ambo and presider's chair are located there as well. The roots of the sanctuary are in the Old Testament; "And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst."~exodus 25:8. In Catholic Churches today, this is where you will find our Lord truly present, upon the altar at Mass and often reserved in the tabernacle. When Mass starts, the priest enters the sanctuary and kisses the altar, which signifies that this is where Jesus will become present during Mass. 6 April 21, 2019 Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 3 Dear friends, I ve been helping my youngest child with conversations about colleges, careers and thinking about life after High School. I confess that with each conversation, there is another conversation going on in my head. I see teenage Mary, frustrated and grumpy. I was the Methodist preacher s daughter in my southern town, and I was anxious to shed my goody-twoshoes image. Listening for God s gentle nudge wasn t happening. So how did my journey bring me from that point to being so incredibly happy in the Catholic Church? Sometimes I feel like a sponge, trying to soak up as much as I can in our Bible Studies, those happy morning playing cards with the Circle of Friends ladies, sharing a life lesson with the 3rd graders, and just learning to listen. I believe that sometimes God can speak to us in the conversations we have. Those conversations we have with others, and that running conversation that goes on in our head. Think about your life. Can you look back and see those times God was working in your life.? (It s hard to see when you re young and ready to take on the world!) But God is working in our life in so many ways! So here we are on Easter Sunday at Immaculate Conception Church. What brought you here? Do you enjoy coming to church or do you go because you feel you ought to? Here s a challenge: Using that voice in your head, ask God what his will is for you. How can He use you for something good in this world? How can you be Christ hands and feet? Then sit back and listen. Look for what opportunities God sends your way! At Immaculate Conception, this is what we are asking ourselves, as a parish family. What good can we do in the world? How can we help each other and those in need? If we haven t seen you in awhile, come be apart of ICC! Remember this Easter Sunday, when we sing Hallelujah and celebrate Jesus Christ rising from the dead, that Jesus took something that was meant for evil and turned it into something good! He put the good in Good Friday! He took an event so terrible and turned it into a call to rejoice! That s our identity. As Pope Saint John Paul II says, We are an Easter people, and our song is Hallelujah! God can take those moments when we re trying to go in another direction, and turne it into something good. Slow down and listen to what God is saying in your life. Thank you for letting me share my faith with you. Now it s your turn! Share your faith with someone today! Confirmation Class: Sunday 9:00-10:00 am Christopher Wentlent, cwentlent@gmail.com April 28 4 hour retreat following 10:15 am Mass First Communion and May Crowning We will celebrate the First Communion of seven awesome 2nd graders on Sunday May 5 during the 10:15 Mass. Concluding Mass will be the May Crowning of the statue of our Blessed Mother, outside in the garden if weather permits. Afterwards, all are invited to a reception in the social hall Adult Bible Study Has your journey brought you to Immaculate Conception for a reason? Would you like to learn more about the Bible, and what message it has for us today in 2019? We offer an informal gathering for adults to study how God may be speaking to us right now. This study consist of eight, 30-minute, DVD sessions with some informal discussion afterwards about life and how God may be speaking to you in a special way. We will begin the next 8-week study on Thursday April 25 from 6-7 pm, on St. Paul s letter to the Ephesians. Study will meet in the social hall. Adult Confirmation Sessions Are you an adult that would like to be confirmed in the Catholic Church? For any adult that desires the Sacrament of Confirmation, we will offer classes in May with our Confirmation teacher and assistant, and a session with Father Paul. Thursday May 9 from 6-7 pm Sunday May 19 from 9-10 am as well as after Mass from 11:30-12:30 pm Sunday June 2- The Sacrament of Confirmation will occur during the 10:15 am Mass.
