This is a completely optional program. There will be two trees with tags on them. One tree will include tags for families in need and tags for service men and women stationed overseas. If you choose a tag for a service man or woman, please include an unsealed Christmas Card with a note of cheer so they don't feel forgotten during this blessed season. The second tree will hold tags of monetary donations for specific areas of our church that can use extra support. These areas include religious education programs, snow plowing expenses and heating expenses. The donations for these tags can be dropped in an envelope in the collection baskets. When you remove a tag from either tree, please replace the tag with an angel ornament provided. Thank you for your generosity in making this Christmas Season special! Our 2nd collection today is for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. This collection supports programs to empower local communities to address the challenges they face. 25% of funds collected will remain in our diocese. By supporting this collection, you are giving those on the margins a hand up, not a hand out. Please be generous

3 November 18, 2018 Christmas Cookies Platter Fundraiser!! This weekend we begin a sign up for donating cookies to the cookie platter fundraiser this Christmas. Please sign up to bring 3 dozen of your favorite Christmas cookie on Saturday, December 15 at 9 am to the church kitchen. We will decorate the platters with many kinds of cookies, then have them available for sale after both weekend Masses. You can also sign up to purchase a platter. These can be used for family and friend events or pop it in your freezer to bring out later in the month, Thank you all for your support of this "sweet" idea! May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Meals On Wheels Our volunteers make the deliveries for August & February: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:15am. Call the Parish Office to join our team! Bottle & Can Drive - drop off your refundable items in the bin next to the Rectory garage. St. Pauly Textile collection shed in our parking lot. Donate your unwanted clothes & fabric items & ICC receives 4 cents per pound collected. American Red Cross Blood Drive Wednesday, November 21, 12:30-5:30 pm. Walk-ins welcome or to schedule an appointment call or visit find-drive The next Circle of Friends gathering for cards, conversation and lunch will be Tuesday, Nov. 27. If you haven't tried this relaxing morning with friends, please join us! Cards begin at 10:30 and a potluck lunch begins at 12:00. Come for one or both! Building Fund Collection (second collection) the weekend of December 1&2. Our parish received excellent marks from the Diocesan Building Inspector this fall and we want to continue to make sure our parish is warm and safe. Thank you for your support of our parish. Christmas Penance Opportunities We will be offering a chance for Father Paul to hear your confession on Saturday, December 15 from 2:00-3:45, here at ICC. We realize that some elderly parishioners can't get up to Oxford for the Penance service, "The Light is on for You", held Monday, December 17 from 4-7 pm, so we will have this additional day available. Because we are linked with St. Josephs in Oxford, we are alternating the locations for this Diocesan Penance Service. We held it in Greene last spring before Easter. If neither of these dates fit your schedule, you can come early to the Saturday Masses and he will hear your confession beginning at 3:30. Feast Day Mass Our Feast Day Mass will be Friday, December 7 at 5:30 pm. We will have a special reception after the Sunday Mass on December 9 to honor and celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary....Of Local Interest Uncovering the Treasures of the Crèche is the title of our six week Bible Study beginning Wednesday, November 28 and continue through Advent into the Christmas season. 6 November 18, 2018 Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 3 Dear friends, This weeks Sunday Mass is our third Youth Mass of the year. It s also the most attended Mass of the month! We ve heard lots of positive feedback for this way of including children and young people in worship. The Office of Evangelization and Religious Education encourage the local parishes to embrace the idea of the personal relationship with Jesus as our goal, not the parochial method of teaching with textbooks and pass or fail grades. We have developed a Youth Mass where all children can participate. The kindergarten and 1st graders are the greeters and pass out a worship aid. The 2nd graders bring up the gifts for Holy Communion. The 3rd graders help the adults that usher and pass the tithing basket. The 4th and 5th graders write the prayer petitions each week, then they read those during the Mass. The 6-7th grade prepare the skit each week and perform it before Mass begins. The skit takes them and the adults on a Journey to the Center of the Mass. Everyone learns more about why we do, what we do. This age group also supplies a young person to read from the Bible as our Lector. Father Paul asked us to take all this a step further and this year invites all the children to come forward and hold hands with him in a large circle, to pray the Our Father. No sibling hand squeezes in sight, it elevates this powerful prayer to an incredible presence of the Holy Spirit. Finally, all the children are invited to participate in a meditation chime song after Communion. This often has two siblings playing beside each other. Where at home they may be bickering, it is heartwarming to see siblings helping each other with notes and timing. Last month, little Patty Su was very patient and kind to her preschool sister as she not only played her own chime, but kept an eye on her little sisters part and helped her along. The happy shining eyes of the little sister is a memory I will not soon forget. Opportunities to show kindness! I realize this youth filled Mass is very different, and we appreciate everyone's patience. The Saturday Mass is a more solemn Mass as well as the short but no less powerful Wednesday noon Mass. Children are our future and we are embracing this fact in many positive ways. Blessings this Thanksgiving Week. Christmas Children's Pageant The children of the parish are invited to once again participate in the Christmas Eve Pageant on Monday, December 24. This pageant concludes the Christmas Eve Mass which begins at 4:00, preceded by special Christmas Carols at 3:30. All children interested should attend practice on Sunday morning December 16 during the regular CCD class time 9-10 am. Those children not in the pageant will still have special Christmas classwork to learn about this special time of year. There will be no CCD on Sunday December 23 or Sunday December 30. Immaculata Award Congratulations to Anita Urda for being this years recipient of the Syracuse Diocese Immaculata Award. Anita is being honored for her many years of volunteer service to her parish and the music ministry of the parish. She joined the Catholic Church after converting as a high schooler. Her father taught her to play the guitar and she uses his guitar each week as she leads our singing. Anita and her family will attend a special Mass at the Cathedral in Syracuse on December 9. Many thanks to Anita for loving your parish family with your time and your talent!
