What is "Respect Life" all about? It's who we are! We are cherished, chosen and sent by God to love one another as He loves us. In doing so, we help build a culture that cherishes all human life. Building a culture of life is simply part of who we are as Christians, as followers of Christ. Each October (Respect Life Month), the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops kicks off a new cycle of the Respect Lie Program - a yearround, nationwide effort to help Catholics understand, value, and become engaged with cultivating respect for life.

Month of the Rosary: during the month of October, 2018, Pope Francis has requested "the faithful of all the world to pray that the Holy Mother of God place the Church beneath her protective mantle" World Mission Sunday Next Sunday we are called to be part of the Church s missionary efforts, supporting mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists who provide loving service to those most in need. As Catholics around the world gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, let us PRAY for the Church s worldwide missionary work and OFFER financial help through a special collection for The Society for the PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH. Twice a year just before exam time, care packages are mailed out with snacks, gift cards for coffee, prayer cards and a note of encouragement from the parish family. If you know of a college student that would appreciate this, please send their address to Margaret Hanrahan at jghanrahan@aol.com or text We would like to update our addresses no later than November 1. ICC will hold a second VIRTUS training opportunity for any adult or teenager that volunteers with children in the parish. The date is Thursday evening, October 18 from 6-9 pm. Please register for this online through the Diocese website at SyracuseDiocese.org. Save the Date! Our friends at St. Josephs, Oxford have invited us to a morning of games, cards and conversation on Wednesday, October 24. The ICC Circle of Friends is inviting anyone interested to sign up in the vestibule, so that we can ride together. We will plan to leave Greene at 10:10, and we will return by 12:00. The next Liturgy Meeting will be Sunday, October 14, immediately following the 10:15 Mass. We will meet in the library and committee members are requested to attend. We will hold a special commissioning for new Eucharistic Ministers on Sunday, October 21, after the 10:15 Mass. Trust in The Truth is the theme for the 2018 Catholic Women s Conference set for Sat., Oct. 27, at the Oncenter in Syracuse. 6 October 14, 2018 Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 3 Dear friends, Our Diocese offers retreats and workshops to anyone interested in diving deeper into their spiritual life. One workshop presented the idea that we are all called to be Disciples. You may be saying, Yes, I already knew that! Well, the workshop began with a Power Point describing the various stages people are in, while on their life journey. I thought it was fascinating, and would like to share a bit with you here. Question #1- Do you feel you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Do you ever find yourself talking to God either out loud or just in your thoughts? When you pray silently, do you try to explain to God everything going on in your life? Do you think that God already knows what you re going through? If God is with you always, then he knows the details- the good, the bad and the ugly. Question #2- How can we help people encounter Jesus Christ? According to this workshop, we must first realize that there are thresholds on the journey to being a disciple: initial trust, spiritual curiosity, spiritual openness, spiritual seeking, intentional discipleship. And we must cross a threshold before we can go on to the next level. Question #3- Where are you on this diagram? Initial trust is basic trust in something or someone associated with Christ or the Church. Spiritual Curiosity is when you are intrigued and want to know more about the Christian faith: Jesus, his teachings or some aspect of the Christian faith. Spiritual Openness is when you acknowledge to yourself and to God that you are open to the possibility of a personal and spiritual change in your life. Spiritual Seeking is when you go from being in the back seat, to being in the driver's seat of the car: actively seeking to know the God who is calling you. Intentional Discipleship is the decision to drop your nets and to follow Jesus; not out of guilt, but out of a living, growing relationship with God. At this level you can help others by listening to someone s journey, help foster curiosity in the Christian faith, witness your own life journey. Our goal? To be an intentional disciple!
