When we were baptized, we were called to share in His work. Therefore we pledge ourselves to build a community where all are welcomed, loved, needed and appreciated. 3 March 6, 2016 Parish Dinner - Sunday, March 6 immediately following Mass & Baptismsfor all parishioners to attend & enjoy a roast pork dinner & meet our new members. The Knights of Columbus men s group has graciously agreed to prepare the dinner for us. We will use the opportunity of this dinner to welcome & introduce all of the new families that have joined our parish in the last few years to the rest of the parish family. We had 46 new families join ICC and it s time for a formal welcome & introduction to our parish life. Members of committees and parish groups are especially encouraged to attend. Circle of Friends meeting Friday March 18, 10 am. This is a very important group at ICC that keeps in contact with our senior parishioners, mainly through phone calls and letter writing. New members are always welcome! IGNITE 2016 Catholic Men's Conference Attention men of the parish, the theme for the 8 th Annual IGNITE Men s Conference is Merciful Like the Father. Almost 7,000 men have attended the previous conferences and we are looking to make sure 2016 breaks the 8,000 mark! You can be part of it on Saturday, March 19 at the SRC Arena & Event Center for an amazing day that will have a tremendous impact on you. Very inspirational except for the view that St. Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. There is no Scriptural basis for that view. Also, the first 10 minutes area bloody Roman battle scene. Fr. If a person has to keep the Ten Commandments to get to heaven, why did Jesus Christ die on the cross and shed His blood fur us? Romans 3:24 says we are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Isn t it by the blood of the Lord, & not by the observance of the law, that we are forgiven our sins & have eternal life? You re right. We do not keep the law of God and Jesus Christ in order to buy God s love and our sharing in His life. These are free, unmerited gifts. Jesus does tell us, however, what we must do because we are His disciples, part of His family. Several times He corrected His followers when they tried to act, or even prompt Him to act, against that lifestyle. See, for example, Matthew 7:21, 19:17 & 25, & John 9:21.) In other words, there are certain ways we Christians do things, Jesus tells us we must live our lives according to that way or we just won t fit into the kingdom. Fr. John J. Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 4 Dear friends, We had a PCA meeting last week for all the churches in our pastoral area, namely Chenango County. We had a great meeting and discussed 4 areas that we can work together. We will be adding a section to our bulletin with news of the other parishes. Look for that in the coming weeks. It occurred to me how different things are now, and also how far our parish has come. As Bishop Cunningham said, the rural parish will have a different landscape in the future. Different people come in and out of parishes and try to lead to the best of their ability. As with all church committees, the Diocese asks that the Priest recommend its members. Our PCA has Trustees and Parish Council Presidents as well as parish managers. Just to be clear, in the local parish, there are two major arms of councils overseeing the parish. The parish council is the pastoral arm and is made up of elected representatives. (We will be voting for new members to our parish council in April.) Those meetings are open to the parish, but items for discussion should be brought to the attention of the president to be put on the agenda. Visitors to the meeting cannot participate in voting. The financial arm of the parish has a committee made up of individuals appointed by Msgr. Putano. The quarterly Finance meetings are not open to visitors. This is a Diocesan rule and is not meant to insult or offend anyone. The parish publishes a financial statement once a year and leaves them in the vestibule for all to see. Last Sunday the children passed out a magnet for your home refrigerator with a list of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. If you didn t get one, they are in the vestibule. Please take one home! Four girls were trained as altar servers last week by Lorraine Detweiler. They will be helping out over the next several weeks before they are added as regular servers on the May schedule. Thank you Lorraine! Thank you for your support of ICC.
