Feast Day Mass Our Feast Day Mass will be a Vigil on Friday, December 7 at 5:30 pm. We will have a special reception after the Sunday Mass on December 9 to honor and celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Decorating for Christmas We will be decorating the church starting this Sunday after Mass.

3 December 2, 2018 Christmas Cookies Platter Fundraiser!! Sign up for donating cookies to the cookie platter fundraiser this Christmas. Please sign up to bring 3 dozen of your favorite Christmas cookie on Saturday, December 15 at 9 am to the church kitchen. We will decorate the platters with many kinds of cookies, then have them available for sale after both weekend Masses. Sign-up to purchase a platter. These can be used for family and friend events or pop it in your freezer to bring out later in the month, Thank you all for your support of this "sweet" idea! May & November we cover the hours at the Pantry. Meals On Wheels Our volunteers make the deliveries for August & February: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:15am. Call the Parish Office to join our team! Bottle & Can Drive - drop off your refundable items in the bin next to the Rectory garage. St. Pauly Textile collection shed in our parking lot. Donate your unwanted clothes & fabric items & ICC receives 4 cents per pound collected....of Local Interest Building Fund Collection (second collection) the weekend of December 1&2. Our parish received excellent marks from the Diocesan Building Inspector this fall and we want to continue to make sure our parish is warm and safe. Thank you for your support of our parish. Christmas Penance Opportunities We will be offering a chance for Father Paul to hear your confession on Saturday, December 15 from 2:00-3:45, here at ICC. We are alternating locations for the Diocesan Penance service, "The Light is on for You" The Advent version is Monday, December 17 from 4-7 pm at St. Joseph s in Oxford. We hosted the Lenten version. As we enter into a new liturgical year this weekend, we are drawn deeply into our incredible Catholic traditions. During Advent and throughout the Christmas season, the Creche, a visual representation of the Nativity, tells the story of the Nativity of Jesus. The tradition is very old, originating according to St. Bonaventure, with Saint Francis' waging the first nativity scene in We celebrate this centuries old tradition each year, an observance that enriches our faith. Consider this: How often has something become so familiar, so comfortable to you that you no longer see it for what it truly is. For many, the Nativity Scene has become just that; it's part of the Advent and Christmas season landscape. "Uncovering the Treasures of the Creche" is the title of a six week Bible Study that began last Wednesday and continues each week into the Christmas season. The three sessions before Christmas will focus on events leading up to the Nativity. We will reference specific Bible passages as well as writings from the early Church. All 8 Catholic Churches in Chenango County (Our PCA), as well as Sacred Heart in Sidney, NY, are invited to participate in this unique study. This Tuesday, December 4, ICC will be the host sight for the 2nd week session. The study begins at 6:30 preceded by refreshments and fellowship at 6:15. 6 December Church of the Immaculate Conception, Greene, New York Page 3 Dear friends, I m happy to report that we had over 26 families make an Advent Candle decoration last week. There were assorted purple ribbons available to be tied on the outside, with candles, pinecones and stones for the inside of the vase. Hopefully this decoration will help families remember that Advent is a time to wait and prepare for Christmas. The purple ribbon symbolizes penance, preparation and sacrifice. The candles help us remember the light of Christ coming into the world. So how can we be a light to others this Advent? Our parish family is packed with individuals and families striving to do just that: they are involved in a ministry to help others. A generous donation went to purchase the turkeys for the Greene Community Thanksgiving Dinner, held in town at The Methodist Church. Another donation is being sent to help the Blessings in a Backpack program at the Primary School. Steve Northrup will be holding a special one day workshop on Saturday January 5, with the goal of helping a few young adults prepare and receive their First Communion. Snowbirds Pat and Gary Husband shined the brass used on the altar and got the Advent wreath ready, before heading south. Josephine Diefenbacher carefully crafted the lovely angels for the Giving Tree. The evergreen wreath outside is from parishioner and scout Clayton Leonard. The Eitapence family donated a beautiful manger scene for decorating in the social hall. Confirmation student Eddie Komperda removed and boxed the old missals, then set out the new missals for the new liturgical year, along with his helpers, mom and dad. The list of bakers for the Christmas Cookie Platter fundraiser is off to a fabulous start as over 8 people have signed up to donate 3 dozen festive cookies. (I plan to buy one and freeze it for when my older kids come home for Christmas!) Wow! Preparing our parish; preparing our homes; preparing ourselves. Spend some quiet time this week and ask yourself: How can I prepare my heart for Christmas? In what way can I be new for him? Why not start each day with a thank you- thank you for coming into the world for me! Peace!~Mary Wentlent Hometown Holiday Concert All are invited to the Greene Area Churches Hometown Holiday Concert at 7 pm on Friday December 7 at Zion Episcopal Church after our Feast Day Mass. Many are preparing special Christmas Music and this is a great way to begin the Advent Season. They will be working together on determining a community need to donate their profits too. The youth of our CCD program held a baby bottle drive this fall and raised $380 for "Rise!", a domestic violence center in Endicott NY. The next service project our youth will be involved with will be taking part in the parish wide "Sleeping Bags for the Homeless" project in January. Intergenerational Chime Practice for Christmas Eve Carols Sunday, December 16, 3:00 pm in the Social Hall. Please sign-up in the vestibule if you & your child &/or grandchild would like to participate. Christmas Children's Pageant The children of the parish are invited to once again participate in the Christmas Eve Pageant on Monday, December 24. This pageant concludes the Christmas Eve Mass which begins at 4:00, preceded by special Christmas Carols at 3:30. All children interested should attend practice on Sunday morning December 16 during the regular CCD class time 9-10 am. Those children not in the pageant will still have special Christmas classwork to learn about this special time of year. There will be no CCD on Sunday, December 23 or Sunday, December 30.
