3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Dear brothers and sisters, God in his Providence has wanted me to come to this new mission in this beautiful city of Mankato. I thank God for his goodness. It is always consoling to know that God provides and sends his priests to so many different places in order that they may bear fruit. Such is the way that we priests are to please Him: This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:8) In this first message I would like to introduce myself. I was born in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina in the year I come from a very big family of 12 siblings, 8 of which are religious: 3 priests, 2 nuns and 3 seminarians. We are all spread around in different countries like Philippines, Argentina, Holland, United States and Guyana. We all belong to the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word. I have done my studies in our mother house and seminary in Argentina and I was ordained a Priest on December 5th, My first assignments were Greece and Italy, where I completed my studies on Sacred Scriptures, after which I was sent to the USA. Up until this new assignment I have been the novice master of our Institute in USA, residing in Maryland. It is my pleasure to be here and I ask God and the Blessed Virgin Mary to guide me in this new mission. It is true that new assignments and new missions are often times uncertain in their challenges and eventual difficulties but the grace of God and the certainty that He is the one who calls, always suffice. In fact our Lord teaches us in today s Gospel that the cross is the royal path of the Christian. This Sunday s Gospel is a clear teaching of the Lord regarding the wisdom of the cross: Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me These words have been resounding throughout the history of the Church and have been always a source of strength and conversion, of peace and hope. The reason comes from the fact that the wisdom of the cross is the wisdom of God. A Wisdom of heaven that makes us think as God. Peter seemed to be afraid or scandalized about the cross, but the Lord rebuked him: Y ou are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do. It is true that sometimes we are afraid of the cross, but the Christian reaction before that fear is not to run away but to love, because as Saint Augustine says: love sweetens what might be painful. And he continues: We all know what marvels love can accomplish What rigors have people endured, what unworthy and intolerable living conditions have they borne so as to be able to possess the object of their love! Why be surprised that someone who loves Christ and wants to follow him renounces himself in order to love him? For if a person loses himself by loving himself, there is no doubt that he will find himself by renouncing himself (Saint Augustine, Sermon 96) Dear friends, I commend all of you to the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to the care and protection of our dear Patrons the apostles Saints Peter and Paul, and I ask you for prayers that I may be faithful and generous to the new assignment God has given to me. Vì chưng, ai muốn cứu mạng sống mình, thì sẽ mất; còn ai đành mất mạng sống mình vì Thầy, thì sẽ được sự sống. Nếu ai được lợi cả thế gian mà thiệt hại sự sống mình, thì được ích gì? Hoặc người ta sẽ lấy gì mà đổi được sự sống mình? Bởi vì Con Người sẽ đến trong vinh quang của Cha Người, cùng với các thiên thần của Người, và bấy giờ, Người sẽ trả công cho mỗi người tuỳ theo việc họ làm". Đó là lời Chúa. Jesus & the Little Ones Sunday School Catechists are needed to share the Sunday Gospel readings with 3-7 year old children on their level. The program is held during the Liturgy of the Word during the 9:30 am Sunday Mass. Catechists lead the children out of Mass after a blessing from the priest and return at offertory. Contact the Faith Formation office for more information. In recent years there has been a great increase in the number of adults who are joining the Catholic Church. RCIA is a program designed to help non-catholics and non-practicing Catholics learn more about Catholicism through a series of classes, discussions, prayer times, and ceremonies. This program helps people grow in faith and knowledge of God as they consider becoming Catholic; although there is no obligation to join the Catholic Church. Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church RCIA program is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you are not yet sure whether you want to become Catholic, that s ok! True compassion alleviates suffering while maintaining solidarity with those who suffer. It does not put lethal drugs in their hands and abandon them. SIGUIENDO A CRISTO Si alguna vez te jugaron una broma desagradable y algo risible a la vez, entonces comprenderás cómo Jeremías se siente hoy cuando le dice a Dios me sedujiste, Señor, y me dejé seducir. Ya lo imaginamos sacudiendo la cabeza con una sonrisa desconsolada, pero con el enojo latente en su voz. De igual manera, Pedro piensa que Jesús lo está embaucando cuando éste comienza a explicar que ser el Mesías significa sufrir y morir, y ser seguidor del Mesías significa cargar la cruz y hacer lo mismo. Jeremías trata de negar la voluntad de Dios para él al tratar de permanecer callado; Pedro quien ha sido hecho cimiento de la Iglesia totalmente niega la enseñanza de Jesús, por lo que hoy es llamado Satanás. Por suerte para nosotros, Jeremías se llega a dar cuenta de que tener la Palabra de Dios en el corazón significa que será inútil tratar de permanecer en silencio, aunque ello signifique el desprecio y la burla de los que te rodean. Felizmente Pedro al final volvió a la fe que profesó en el Evangelio de la semana pasada, y llegó a comprender nuestra necesidad, como bautizados seguidores de Cristo, de seguir su camino, aunque signifique seguirlo hasta la muerte.
