3 ASSOCIATE PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 F or the past few Sundays, the Gospel has come from chapter six of St. John s Gospel. In this chapter, Jesus clearly and unambiguously presents His Body and Blood as life-giving: For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him (Jn 6:55-56). This teaching of Jesus was so clear that many of our Lord s disciples refused to accept it because they could not understand how it was possible. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) recount the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. In the Synoptic Gospels we read how Jesus took bread and said Take and eat; this is my body and then took a cup of wine and said Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant (Mt. 26: 26-28). If St. John presented Jesus teaching His disciples what the Eucharist will be, the Synoptic Gospels present how Christ Jesus willed to give us His Body and Blood. At every Holy Mass, Jesus Christ become truly present under the appearance of bread and wine. Ecclesia de Eucharistia, an encyclical letter of St. John Paul II, concisely presents this teaching of the Church and makes clear that it is the constant teaching of the Church in paragraph 15: The sacramental re-presentation of Christ's sacrifice, crowned by the resurrection, in the Mass involves a most special presence which in the words of Paul VI is called 'real' not as a way of excluding all other types of presence as if they were 'not real', but because it is a presence in the fullest sense: a substantial presence whereby Christ, the God-Man, is wholly and entirely present. This sets forth once more the perennially valid teaching of the Council of Trent: the consecration of the bread and wine effects the change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord, and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. And the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called this change transubstantiation. Truly the Eucharist is a mysterium fidei, a mystery which surpasses our understanding and can only be received in faith, as is often brought out in the catechesis of the Church Fathers regarding this divine sacrament: Do not see Saint Cyril of Jerusalem exhorts in the bread and wine merely natural elements, because the Lord has expressly said that they are his body and his blood: faith assures you of this, though your senses suggest otherwise. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Next week, the Saturday night Mass will be filled with extra beautiful music for the Solemn Celebration of Perpetual Vows for one of SW Minnesota s own vocations to the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará (the IVE s female branch). The Schmitz family of Springfield, MN will join our parish for the final vows of their daughter, who is a missionary in Taiwan. The Sunday Readings will be proclaimed, and all are welcome to witness the beautiful ceremony in this Year for Consecrated Life!

4 AUGUST 23, Pastoral Council New Members If you would like to take part of the pastoral Council of our parish, please call to the office. Our meetings are the 4th Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm. You have to be a register member of the SSPP. "A parish is a definite community of the Christian faithful established on a stable basis within a particular church; the pastoral care of the parish is entrusted to a pastor as its own shepherd under the authority of the diocesan bishop"(canon 515). Fr. Mariano Varela, IVE VIRTUS TRAINING If you plan on volunteering or working in any capacity for Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church VIR- TUS training is required. The VIRTUS Protecting God s Children awareness program is a 3-hour session for all adults to help our Churches/Schools provide a child-safe environment and empowering caring adults to protect children by recognizing the warning signs of sexual abuse and to respond appropriately. Từ bấy giờ có nhiều môn đệ rút lui, không còn theo Người nữa. Chúa Giêsu liền nói với nhóm Mười Hai rằng: "Cả các con, các con có muốn bỏ đi không?" Simon Phêrô thưa Người: "Lạy Thầy, chúng con sẽ đi theo ai? Thầy mới có những lời ban sự sống đời đời. Phần chúng con, chúng con tin và chúng con biết rằng: Thầy là Đấng Kitô Con Thiên Chúa". Đó là lời Chúa.
