3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Advent and St. Joseph: Joseph did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took his wife" (cf. Mt 1 :24). Inspired by the Gospel, the Fathers of the Church from the earliest centuries stressed that just as St. Joseph took loving care of Mary and gladly dedicated himself to Jesus Christ's upbringing, he likewise watches over and protects Christ's Mystical Body, that is, the Church, of which the Virgin Mary is the exemplar and model. This Fourth Sunday of Advent focus on the person of St. Joseph and his great trust in God s providence, when he had to obey, the angel s words: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home when Joseph heard of Mary pregnancy he did not know what to do in a human way, as similar to what happen when we come across with an event that surprises us and we find no where to go, that happened to Joseph, however, he was able to see all this event with the eyes of faith, and trusted in the angel. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her From the example of St Joseph we all receive a strong invitation to carry out with fidelity, simplicity and modesty the task that Providence has entrusted to us. Joseph is visited by the messenger as "Mary's spouse," as the one who in due time must give this name to the Son to be born of the Virgin of Nazareth who is married to him. It is to Joseph, then, that the messenger comes, entrusting to him the responsibilities of an earthly father with regard to Mary's Son. "When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took Mary as his wife" (cf. Mt 1:24). He took her in all the mystery of her motherhood. He took her together with the Son who had come into the world by the power of the Holy Spirit. In this way he showed a readiness of will like Mary's with regard to what God asked of him through the angel. Together with Mary, Joseph is the first guardian of this divine mystery. Together with Mary, and in relation to Mary, he shares in this final phase of God's self-revelation in Christ and he does so from the very beginning. Looking at the gospel texts of both Matthew and Luke, one can also say that Joseph is the first to share in the faith of the Mother of God and that in doing so he supports his spouse in the faith of the divine annunciation. He is also the first to be placed by God on the path of Mary's "pilgrimage of faith." It is a path along which - especially at the time of Calvary and Pentecost - Mary will precede in a perfect way. Trust in God s providence: Jesus frequently spoke of trust in God s providence, as when He said: therefore do not worry, saying, what are we to eat, or what are we to drink, or what are we to wear? the unbelievers are always running after these things. Your heavenly Father knows all that you need. Seek first His kingship over you, His way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides (Matthew 6:31-33) those who have begun to tithe, even if it has taken several years to adjust their budget and lifestyle accordingly, will readily testify about the many surprising and encouraging way the Lord has kept these promises. They first made a decision as to how much the Lord should get back from their gifts received, and then they trusted that He would enable them to live on what remained. Christmas soon: In a few days, we are all going to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord Jesus. We know what things are involve in the celebration of Christmas: joy, surprises, reunions, get together, etc. However, we must also remember that Christmas brings us together to commemorate the beginning of the redemption which will be accomplished by Jesus on the Cross. The meaning of Christmas is more than getting material gifts, it is the joy of having received the greatest gift, God the Father, could have been given to humanity, His only Son, coming to earth assuming the condition of each one of us. That is the reason for our joy, Jesus is the reason of this beautiful season. May Christ be in your heart.. Fr. Mariano Varela, IVE Individual Confessions Before Christmas Individual Confessions will be held on Tuesday, December 20 and Wednesday, December 21 from 11 am to 12 noon. There are no Confessions scheduled on Saturday, December 24, Christmas Eve. Year End Reminder Regarding Charitable Donations Charitable contributions must be applied to the year in which they are received. If a donor wishes to claim a contribution as a charitable deduction for income tax purposes, the donor must relinquish control of the funds before the IRS considers it a charitable donation. The IRS states that a mailed contribution must have been postmarked on or before December 31, 2016 to establish control was released by the end of the year. Also the regular collection coming in at the 5:15 pm Mass on December 31st will be included in 2016, thank you for your generosity.

4 DECEMBER 18, Ss Peter and Paul Gift Shop Barnes And Nobel is once again sponsoring a book fair for our gift shop. Any product you purchase on line or in the store from Dec. 17 th to Dec. 23 will earn a percentage of the sale for our SSPP gift shop. Take your voucher, found in the bulletin, with you so the shop gets credit. If you forget voucher, mention that you want credit for SSPP Book Fair and the clerks will apply it to our total shop's book fair. On Sunday, Dec. 18, come and listen to Christmas music provided by the musicians and singers from our SSPP music program from 2:30-3:30 at Barnes & Nobel. This is a great way to support SSPP and to find wonderful gifts for your Christmas giving. 7 CUARTO DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO 18 DE DICIEMBRE 2016 Horario de las celebraciones de Navidad Misas de Navidad LLAMADOS POR DIOS Al acercarse la Navidad, las Escrituras del Adviento nos llevan a un mundo de sueños, señales, maravillas y el milagro del nacimiento de una virgen. Muchas veces dejamos que los grandes relatos de nuestra fe, los que son más conocidos, simplemente nos pasen sin sentirlos.
