3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters Again, the liturgy of the Word delights us with a beautiful account of the Gospel of Saint Mark in which we contemplate the saving power of our Lord. When we see the Lord performing miracles, we must strengthen our Faith. Our firm conviction that He can save us, and change our hearts for good. He doesn't heal the leper as a mere physician, but as God and Lord. Saint John Chrysostom explains: The reason why He touches the leper, and did not confer health upon him by word alone, was, that it is said by Moses in the Law, that he who touches a leper shall be unclean till the evening; that is, that he might shew that this uncleanness is a natural one, that the Law was not laid down for Him, but on account of mere men. Furthermore, He shews that He Himself is the Lord of the Law; and the reason why He touched the leper, though the touch was not necessary to the working of the cure, was to shew that He gives health, not as a servant, but as the Lord. Therefore, as we honor Him for His power, let us love Him with our whole being. Let us pray to Him with these beautiful words of St Theresa of Jesus: O my Lord, how you are the true friend; and how powerful! When you desire you can love, and you never stop loving those who love you! All things praise you, Lord of the world! Oh, who will cry out for you, to tell everyone how faithful you are to your friends! All things fail; you, Lord of all, never fail! God bless you all. Fr. Javier Ibarra The Chamber Choir of St. John's University/College of St. Benedict, will appear in concert at: SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church 105 N, 5 th Street Saturday, March 3-8:00 p.m. The concert is part of the choir s Concert Season. Traditionally the program features a wide variety of sacred and secular music from around the world, ranging from polyphony of the Renaissance to masterworks of the 21th century. This year's performance will, among others, include compositions by Morten Lauridsen, Max Reger, Stacey V. Gibbs, Eric Whitacre, Michael Barrett and Bob Chilcott. Nhưng đi khỏi, người ấy liền cao rao và loan truyền tin đó, nên Chúa Giêsu không thể công khai vào thành nào được. Người dừng lại ở ngoài thành, trong những nơi vắng vẻ, và người ta từ khắp nơi tuôn đến cùng Người. Đó là lời Chúa. 6 FEBRUARY 11, Do-It-Yourself Retreat CONSECRATION TO DIVINE MERCY Join the Mankato Catholic Community in consecrating ourselves to Divine Mercy. We will be using Fr. Michael Gaitley s book 33 Days to Merciful Love. Fr. Michael writes in a simple manner you read just two pages a day. If you miss a day, just catch up. Reading begins on March 5th and the consecration is on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8th at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church (you can also do this privately). Books are on sale at the Bookstore for $10. With all the mercy that other people are rejecting, soo, what is this consecration all about? It is St. Therese s Little Way on how to become a saint. This easy consecration is asking Jesus to flood you Do this for yourself! Linda Zumwalde St Joseph Workshop Materials and Tools Needed We are setting up a large teaching workshop in a basement room at Fitzgerald. There will be multiple workstations to learn basic carpentry, electrical basics, plumbing problems and small engines. We will use this first to integrate trade skills and craftsmanship in our science class for the seminarians. Eventually we hope the workshop learning center will become a place for men and boys of the parish to work and learn together in the tradition of St Joseph and St. John Bosco. We are starting with hand tools and materials not large power saws etc. Any building kits or model type kits are also welcome. If you want to support this project with a monetary contribution; a check to SS Peter and Paul designated for the St Joseph Workshop will be prudently invested. Hammers, saws, screwdrivers, nails, screws, wood, and workbenches needed most. We don't want to buy any of these items. We know there are extras out there in our garages and basements. Se ha especulado mucho al respecto: Marcos está preparando el terreno para el gran secreto que se revelará cuando Pedro proclame que Jesús es el Mesías en Cesárea de Filipo; otros comentaristas más escépticos sostienen que Jesús, quien era plenamente consciente de su naturaleza humana, sabía que la mejor manera de difundir la Buena Nueva era pidiéndole a las personas que la mantuvieran en secreto. La reflexión de esta manera de guardar el secreto que nos resulta muy útil, sin embargo, es que Jesús estaba comenzando su ministerio público de la forma en que describe Pablo: lo estaba haciendo por la gloria de Dios, no para beneficio propio sino para beneficio de todos.
