3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Dear brothers and sisters: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. In front of Pilate, Christ affirmed three times that He was a King. Then you are a King?, was the question. Jesus answered, You say that I am a King, in other words, You are correct. It is true that He said to Pilate, My kingdom is not of this world, but He did not say, My kingdom is not here. Now, apparently, He is a 'poor King' who doesn't rule much these days, since if He was reigning, the world would be better. A large part of the world doesn't even know Him; another part knows Him and renounces Him, like those who say We do not want this man to reign over us (Lk. 19:14); finally, another part of the world recognizes Him in word but denies Him in deed; In fact, we might be those cowardly Christians. But there is something else that Christ noted, that if a king s subject rebel against his king, this king doesn't stop being king as long as he retains the power to punish them and to subjugate them once again. If he didn't have that power, that would be different. However, Our Lord is King and He has the power and He will come back in glory, as we read in the Scriptures today: When the son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit upon His glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before Him. And He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. Pope Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King also against Liberalism. In Christian life, liberalism is precisely a form of cowardice. Because in the end, it denies the Kingship of Christ. It denies His power by right over human society. Liberalism eliminated the Kingship of Christ by saying something [ostensibly] innocent : that religion was a private matter, and therefore nations should respect all religions and the Church should not get involved in things that don't concern her or in public affairs. However, if we make God a private matter (a matter within the conscience of each person), by the same token we convert the State or something else into God; and we turn Jesus Christ and the Eternal Father into sub-gods. Since what is public is far superior to what is private and the private must submit to it. We profess however, that Christ is King and his life is superior and our responsibilities as Christians and children of His Church are above all else. It is true that during his earthly life Jesus rejected the intention of the people who wanted to proclaim him "king" after the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves (cf. Jn 6:1-15). However, he did this to correct the erroneous opinion of those who saw in Him a mere worldly and political liberator. Christ's kingship transcends purely earthly dimensions, but is founded on the logic of sacrifice and of judgment. He is King because even when many don t follow and obey Him, He does have the power to judge. As a King He has conquered us, saved us with His blood. The Cross, then, is an essential component for membership in the kingdom of Christ. Those who belong to the kingdom of Satan do not want a king who tells them that they have to suffer. They want Jesus to come down from the cross. May our blessed Mother Queen of heaven and earth grant us the grace of being faithful servants and friends of such a loving, just and merciful King. 4 NOVEMBER 26, HELP US GROW, SATURDAY, DEC. 2nd The Help Us Grow Committee has a great opportunity for all parishioners to help prepare our Church for the upcoming Christmas season. On Saturday, December 2nd we will hold our next "Help Us Grow Saturday" event, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. On that day everyone who is willing and able are invited to help here in the Church and other buildings. This includes dusting the Altar; including the Statues and Stations of the Cross. We will be cleaning the Choir Loft, weather stripping windows and organizing Room 302. If you have an hour - or a morning - please consider joining us to build and strengthen our parish community and improve our facilities. That's December 2nd for Help Us Grow Saturday. Al final del tiempo que conocemos, quedará completa la obra de Cristo de restaurar todas las cosas en unidad y armonía con Dios su Creador. Este domingo, cuando proclamamos que Cristo es nuestro Pastor y nuestro Rey, reconocemos nuestro llamado a participar en la obra salvadora de Cristo al cuidar de quienes Cristo llama aquellos más insignificantes (Mateo 25:45).
