3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Dear friends in Christ, what a beautiful Mass we celebrated last Sunday as we saw our children receiving Jesus for the first time in the Holy Eucharist. They are reminders to all of us of how we should receive Holy Communion every time we approach to receive our Lord. I congratulate all their families for this important occasion and at the same time to let you know that they are the fruits of your sacrifice and love for your children and the church. However, not everyone received the Holy Communion in this way. Last Sunday after the 11:30 Mass we found between the pews several pieces of a consecrated host. I ask if you see anybody receiving the Holy Communion to consume immediately or to report to the ushers if you see that someone is not consuming the Eucharist. Thanks. Happy Mother Day: To all those women who receive this vocation. May Mary, model of Christian mothers, intercede for all mothers, especially those in most difficult situations. Mary's example enlightens and encourages the experience of so many women who carry out their daily tasks exclusively in the home. It is a question of a humble, hidden, repetitive effort, and is often not sufficiently appreciated. Nonetheless, the long years Mary spent in the house of Nazareth reveal the enormous potential of genuine love and thus of salvation. In fact, the simplicity of the lives of so many housewives, seen as a mission of service and love, is of extraordinary value in the Lord's eyes. St. John Paul II. God bless you. Month of Mary: Remember to honor our Blessed Virgin Mary during this month, especially by praying the Holy Rosary. Thank you to the Rosary Society of Ss Peter and Paul for their apostolate in fostering this Marian devotion in our parish every Sunday. I also want to mention the member of the Legion of Mary who, by their weekly meetings on Saturday morning and visiting homes, carry the gospel of the Lord through Mary. If anybody is interesting in joining the Legion of Mary, please call the parish office for more information. We also have a group of people who come on Thursday at 7 pm to pray the rosary for the priests. Our Lady of Fatima: May 13 is the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in She appeared six times to Lucia, 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and his sister Jacinta, 6, between May 13, 1917 and October 13, The story of Fatima begins in 1916, when, against the backdrop of the First World War which had introduced Europe to the most horrific and powerful forms of warfare yet seen, and a year before the Communist revolution would plunge Russia and later Eastern Europe into six decades of oppression under militant atheistic governments, a resplendent figure appeared to the three children who were in the field tending the family sheep. I am the Angel of Peace, said the figure, who appeared to them two more times that year exhorting them to accept the sufferings that the Lord allowed them to undergo as an act of reparation for the sins which offend Him, and to pray constantly for the conversion of sinners. Then, on the 13th day of the month of Our Lady, May 1917, an apparition of a woman all in white, more brilliant than the sun presented itself to the three children saying Please don t be afraid of me, I m not going to harm you. Lucia asked her where she came from and she responded, I come from Heaven. The woman wore a white mantle edged with gold and held a rosary in her hand. The woman asked them to pray and devote themselves to the Holy Trinity and to say the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war. Fr. Being a catechist, office assistant, meal service, etc. brings just as much joy and knowledge to us as it does the children and youth we serve. We encourage you to prayerfully consider continuing to share your faith with others through Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, Liturgy & Music, Pastoral Ministry, Community Life, and Parish Service in the seasons to come! 4 MAY 10, Loyola Catholic School The month of May is action packed to say the least. From 4 th graders attending the Children s Theater and Art Institute in Minneapolis, to the 5 th Graders conducting their space shuttle missions, the 7 th graders exploring the outdoors on Lake Jefferson, the 8 th graders seeing if their rockets really do fly, and the students in Grades K 5 celebrating Literacy Week. We will also celebrate our seniors at their Baccalaureate Mass on Wednesday, May 13, 7:00 P.M. in the Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger Chapel on the Good Counsel Campus. We invite you to this beautiful Mass. Graduation for our high school seniors will be on Sunday, May 17, at 7:00 P.M. in the gym on the Good Counsel Campus. The May concert for Grades 5-8 band and Grades 7-8 choir will be held on Tuesday, May 19, at 7:00 P.M. in the theater on the Fitzgerald Campus. ÁMENSE UNOS A OTROS El domingo pasado escuchamos el familiar pasaje del Evangelio de san Juan en el que Jesús usa el símbolo de la viña y las ramas. En ese pasaje escuchamos que si permanecemos en Cristo daremos mucho fruto. El Evangelio de hoy nos dice cuál es ese fruto: el amor. La segunda lectura de hoy junto con el Evangelio crean un gran himno de amor. El coro de este himno es sencillo Dios nos ama tanto que envió a Jesús al mundo para que tuviéramos vida. El Señor Jesús que nos dijo la semana pasada que permaneciéramos en él, esta semana nos dice que permanezcamos en su amor. En un mundo marcado por las divisiones y el terrorismo, las últimas palabras del Evangelio de hoy son un gran reto: Esto es lo que les mando: que se amen los unos a los otros. Copyright J. S. Como modelo de todo verdadero creyente ya que ella nos precedió a todos en el camino de la fe y cooperó activamente en el plan de redención con su "sí" a Dios: "Hágase en mí según tu palabra." Lee: Génesis 3, María es hija de Dios Padre. Todos somos hijos de Dios, pero ella es la elegida de Dios "entre todas las mujeres" desde el primer instante de su concepción. Por ello el ángel la llama: "llena de gracia", es decir, desde el principio. De no ser así, el ángel le hubiera dicho: "serás llena de gracia" es decir, antes no, pero ahora sí. Jesucristo en cuanto a su humanidad tiene una sola Madre, la que lo engendró en la tierra, Lee: Lucas 1,31. María no es una diosa porque no engendró a Cristo en cuanto a su divinidad, pero sí es Madre de Dios porque engendró a Cristo en cuanto a su humanidad.
