3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters I would like to say something about the prayer of the Holy Rosary, because today is October 7th, day of our Lady of the Holy Rosary. For several centuries, this feast was known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory, in honor of the 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against Turkish invasion. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was invoked on the day of the battle through a campaign to pray the Rosary throughout Europe. Centuries later, Pope Leo XIII wrote: It has always been the habit of Catholics in danger and in troublous times to fly for refuge to Mary. This devotion, so great and so confident, to the August Queen of Heaven, has never shone forth with such brilliancy as when the militant Church of God has seemed to be endangered by the violence of heresy, or by an intolerable moral corruption, or by the attacks of powerful enemies. The Holy Rosary and our devotion to Mary has been always the powerful weapon for spiritual and even temporal danger. In an interview for a German magazine Stimme des Glaubens published in October 1981, Saint John Paul II said: "We must be prepared to undergo great trials in the not-too-distant future; trials that will require us to be ready to give up even our lives, and a total gift of self to Christ and for Christ. Through your prayers and mine, it is possible to alleviate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it, because it is only in this way that the Church can be effectively renewed. How many times, indeed, has the renewal of the Church been effected in blood? This time, again, it will not be otherwise. We must be strong,... we must entrust ourselves to Christ and to His Holy Mother, and we must be attentive, very attentive, to the prayer of the Rosary." 4 OCTOBER 7, Sympathy With Faith in the Resurrection We Recommend to the Lord Joan Cattrysse Matching Fund Challenge A very generous parishioner has offered us a matching maintenance fund challenge for up to $15, dollars. You can donate to the fund by mailing your donation to the church, dropping it in the collection basket on the weekend or going online to our web page, and clicking on the ONLINE GIVING button on the menu bar. Donations as of October 12th are $14, or 98% of the matching amount. We would like to try and top our goal this week. Thank you for generous support. Second Collection The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has asked all bishops to consider taking up a special collection in response to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Florence. This emergency collection is intended to support both the humanitarian and Church needs arising from the hurricane. Our collection will be taken up next weekend. Thank you for your generosity. Như thế, họ không còn là hai mà là một huyết nhục. Vậy sự gì Thiên Chúa đã kết hợp, loài người không được phân rẽ". Về đến nhà, các môn đệ lại hỏi Người về điểm đó. Và Người bảo các ông: "Ai bỏ vợ mình và lấy vợ khác, thì phạm tội ngoại tình đối với người vợ trước. Và người nữ bỏ chồng và lấy chồng khác, thì cũng phạm tội ngoại tình". {Bấy giờ người ta đưa những trẻ nhỏ đến cùng Chúa Giêsu để Người đặt tay trên chúng, nhưng các môn đệ khiển trách họ. Thấy vậy, Chúa Giêsu bất bình và bảo các ông rằng: "Hãy để các trẻ nhỏ đến cùng Thầy, đừng ngăn cản chúng, vì nước Thiên Chúa là của những người giống như chúng. Thầy bảo thật các con: Ai không đón nhận nước Thiên Chúa như trẻ nhỏ, sẽ không được vào nước đó". Rồi Người ôm chúng, đặt tay ban phép lành cho chúng.} Đó là lời Chúa. RCIA is a program designed to help non- Catholics and non-practicing Catholics learn more about Catholicism through a series of classes, discussions, prayer times, and ceremonies. Prayers for an increase to the Priesthood For 23 years a Marian prayer group has met to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and for all priests throughout the world. We meet on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in Ss Peter and Paul Chapel. We pray three rosaries and the Chaplet of Diving Mercy. Rosary Rally On October 7, TODAY the Feast of the Holy Rosary, there will be a 5-decade Rosary Rally held on the Main Street side of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church as part of the international Rosary Coast to Coast event. The rally will take place at 3:00 P.M., after the parish festival, with the purpose of asking God s graces for our country and for peace in the whole world. LOS ABRAZÓ Y LOS BENDIJO Hoy Jesús recalca que el Reino de Dios pertenece a los que son como los niños. Son confiados, tiernos y tienen el corazón abierto al amor. Se alegran cuando se dan cuenta del amor que Dios siente por ellos y están más que dispuestos a retribuir ese amor. Este es el modelo que Jesús nos presenta si queremos recibir el Reino de Dios. Debemos abrir el corazón y amar. Debemos bajar la guardia, sin importar por qué la hayamos montado, y recibir con alegría el amor que Cristo siente por nosotros. Es imposible que hagamos esto sin ayuda. Sólo la gracia de Dios nos permitirá hacerlo y esa gracia se nos concede generosamente y sin condiciones. Lo único que debemos hacer es aceptarla. Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Fiesta: 15 de diciembre: Aunque propiamente la fiesta es el 12 de diciembre, la celebración de la Misa en Honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe será el día sábado 15 de diciembre a las 6:45 empezando con la procesión y siguiendo con la Santa Misa. Están todos invitados a la fiesta que seguirá después de la Santa Misa en el salón de la Iglesia. Ayuda: Venta de Pan Para recaudar fondos para la celebración se hará venta de pan los días 17 y 18 de Noviembre después de las Misas de la Parroquia. Novena de Rosarios en Preparación, Desde el día 7 de diciembre hasta el día 15 se va a rezar el Rosario a las 7 de la tarde delante de la Imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Es un hermoso gesto de preparación y devoción.
