3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Dear brothers and sisters, Today Jesus says: I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. Saint Thomas Aquinas says that in this verse our Lord reveals four realities of the Sacrament of the Eucharist: 1 Its species, 2 The authority of the one who instituted it, 3 The truth of this sacrament, 4 Its usefulness. 1- As to the species of this sacrament, He says this bread; Come, and eat my bread (Prv 9:5). 2- As to the Author of this sacrament, this is Christ: for although the priest confers it, it is Christ himself who gives the power to this sacrament, because the priest consecrates in the person of Christ. Thus in the other sacraments the priest uses his own words or those of the Church, but in this sacrament he uses the words of Christ: because just as Christ gave His body to death by His own will, so it is by His own power that He gives himself as food: Jesus took bread, He blessed it and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat it, this is my body (Mt 26:26). 3 - The truth of this sacrament is indicated when He says, is my flesh. He does not say, This signifies my flesh, but it is my flesh, for in reality that which is taken is truly the body of Christ. Who will give us his flesh so that we may be satisfied? we read in Job (31:31). 4- The usefulness of this sacrament is great and universal. It is great, indeed, because it produces spiritual life within us now, and will later produce eternal life. The usefulness of this sacrament is universal because the life it gives is not only the life of one person, but, so far as concerns itself, the life of the entire world: and for this the death of Christ is fully sufficient. He is the offering for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the entire world We should note that this sacrament is different from the others: for the other sacraments have individual effects: as in baptism, only the one baptized receives grace. But in the immolation of this sacrament, the effect is universal: because it affects not just the priest, but also those for whom he prays, as well as the entire Church, of the living and of the dead. The reason for this is that it contains the universal cause of all the sacraments, Christ. Let us pray that our Faith on the Eucharist may grow, and that we may love the Eucharist. God bless you. Cha ông các ngươi đã ăn manna trong sa mạc và đã chết. Đây là bánh bởi trời xuống, để ai ăn bánh này thì khỏi chết. Ta là bánh hằng sống từ trời xuống. Ai ăn bánh này, sẽ sống đời đời. According to St. Pope John Paul II, catechesis is a sacred and inalienable right...the Church has always considered catechesis one of her primary tasks...christ gave the apostles a final command - to make disciples of all na ons and to teach them to observe all that He has commanded Catechesis always has been and always will be a work for which the whole Church must feel responsible and must wish to be responsible. (CT 1, 14-15) It is a gi that has tremendous value to the global community at large because through the catechist's word and ac on, the message of Christ con nues to have a place in all human affairs. The work of catechists depends on the witness of the Church for full effect. As Pope Paul VI said, People today listen more to witness than they do to teachers and if they do listen to teachers it is because they are witnesses. The total cost of the compressors and other repairs was $16, This week the condensate pan on the unit by the Blessed Virgin altar started leaking causing ceiling damage. Insurance will help with the ceiling damage but the repair of the unit is being determined. We are also having water damage in the Upper Room from the flashing that is deteriorating on the side of Xavier Hall. We are working with Schwickert s and Keene Masonry to resolve the issue. Juan alude a los ancestros de los judíos que comieron el maná en el desierto. Hoy pensaríamos sobre todo en el pueblo de Israel caminando por el desierto, pero los judíos fieles también conocían el relato de Elías que escuchamos hoy. Elías comió y bebió en el desierto, y con la fuerza de aquel alimento, el ángel del Señor lo envió en su viaje de cuarenta días y cuarenta noches (la cifra bíblica que simboliza un tiempo de preparación). De la misma manera que el alimento que recibió Elías en el desierto, Jesús le dice a su público que él es pan para la vida del mundo. Es muy importante que sigamos escuchando a Jesús después de su promesa de vida eterna, sin duda es una promesa maravillosa, pero esta recompensa no es la única razón para darnos un festín con el Pan de Vida. También vamos a la mesa con el fin de recibir fuerzas para el camino de la misión, de manera que el mundo entero pueda tener vida en la plenitud de Cristo.
