3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters We find oursleves in the very center of our Lenten pilgrimage towards the Passsion and Resurrection of our Lord. This is why the Church, in today s liturgy, presents to us the Gospel account of our Lord s conversation with Nicodemus. He says to Nicodemus: Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. With these words, he does two things. First He announces His Passion. He must be lifted up. Second He challenges the world in regards to Faith. Everyone who belevies in Him. But here we are speaking about a supernatural Faith. So powerful this supernatural Faith is that it can even see the divinity through the mystery of the cross. Saint John Paul II explains it: The "lifting up" through the cross constitutes in a certain sense the key to learning the whole truth which Christ proclaims. The cross is the threshold through which man will be granted to approach that reality which Christ reveals. To reveal means "to make known", to "render present". Christ reveals the Father. Through Him the Father becomes present in the human world. In the cross is the beginning of the resurrection. Therefore the cross becomes the definitive measure of all things that are between God and man In the cross the dimension of the world is definitively referred to the dimension of the Living God. And the Living God meets with the world in the cross. He meets it through the death of Christ. This meeting is totally for man. At times we ask ourselves, "Why did that meeting of the Living God with man take place in the cross? Why did it have to be done this way?" Christ gives the answer to this in today's conversation: "If indeed you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins" (Jn 8:24). Over the dimension of the world is placed the dimension of sin For this very reason the meeting of God with the world takes place in the cross. The cross and death are necessary, so that man will not die in his sins. The cross and the resurrection are necessary, that man may believe in Christ, that he may accept this world that Christ reveals through Himself. We must learn to measure the problems of the world, and above all the problems of man, by the cross and resurrection of Christ. God bless you all and have a blessed week. Fr. Ai tin Người Con ấy thì không bị luận phạt. Ai không tin thì đã bị luận phạt rồi, vì không tin vào danh Con Một Thiên Chúa; và đây án phạt là sự sáng đã đến thế gian, và người đời đã yêu sự tối tăm hơn sự sáng, vì hành động của họ xấu xa. Thật vậy, ai hành động xấu xa thì ghét sự sáng, và không đến cùng sự sáng, sợ những việc làm của mình bị khiển trách; nhưng ai hành động trong sự thật thì đến cùng sự sáng, để hành động của họ được sáng tỏ là họ đã làm trong Thiên Chúa". Đó là lời Chúa. Por qué hallamos estos relatos en la Biblia? Están ahí sólo para informarnos lo que les sucedió a nuestros antepasados? Qué bien nos puede traer eso a menos que también haya un mensaje y una advertencia para nosotros? Somos personas que respetan las enseñanzas de Dios, que obedecen las palabras de Cristo en la segunda alianza en su sangre? O continuamos sembrando obras de maldad y violencia?
