3 ASSOCIATE PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 F or the past few Sundays, the gospel has been from the Gospel According to John. St. John s gospel has some notable differences when compared with the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). One particular difference is the institution of the Most Holy Eucharist. The gospels of Ss. Matthew, Mark, and Luke each contain an account of the Last Supper at which our Lord took bread and wine and said the first Mass (Mt. 26:26-30, Mk. 14:22-26, and Lk 22:14-20). St. John does not include the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper in his gospel. Instead, he gives us the Bread of Life Discourse in chapter 6 of his gospel (Jn 6:22-69). The Synoptic Gospels record for us how Jesus took bread and said This is my body and then took a cup of wine and said this is my blood of the covenant (Mt 26:26, 28). The Synoptic Gospels give us the historical event when Christ Jesus gave us His Body and Blood under the appearance of bread and wine. In the Bread of Life Discourse, St. John gives us Christ s teaching on the Most Holy Eucharist. The Bread of Life Discourse makes clear that when our Lord said This is my body and This is my blood of the covenant, He fully meant what those words imply: the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world (Jn 6:51). In the space of four sentences, Christ Jesus explicitly affirms the reality of the Eucharist as His Most Holy Body and Blood: Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him (Jn 6:53-56). St. Paul also writes about the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper as something he received from the Lord and handed on to others (1 Cor 11:23-26). St. Paul goes on to explain a very important consequence that follows from the fact that we receive Christ s Most Holy Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist: [A]s often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number are dying (1 Cor 11:26-30). In examining ourselves, we are to examine our consciences in light of the teaching of the Church. If we are conscious of any grave sin (mortal sin), we should go to the sacrament of confession before receiving Holy Communion so that we can do so in a state of grace. Jesus Christ desires to give us eternal life. He gives us His Body and Blood as food for our souls. Conscious of the great gift that our Lord gives us in the Holy Eucharist, Himself, let us do all we can to receive Him worthily. God Bless, Fr. Richard A. SUPPORTING PARISH FAMILIES Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Encounters in the Atrium The children will become partners in the covenant with God by being in relationship with God. One of the ideas shared in the Atrium: The Life of Christ: The children will learn about the historical events of the life of Jesus, including the infancy narratives, the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. They will encounter presentations on the preaching of Jesus and the images of Christ as Good Shepherd, Christ the Light and the True Vine.

Este mundo de la visión de Juan, es sólo un mundo imaginario? Y esos fieles seguidores de Jesús por los cuales él reza, son un mero sueño del salvador? Curiosamente esta fecha no es reconocida por Estados Unidos pero sí por muchos países latinoaméricanos. En 1954, el Papa Pió XII apoyó los derechos del obrero incluyendo a san José Obrero en el calendario cristiano. Esta fiesta celebra y recuerda la doctrina social de la Iglesia católica, una doctrina que insiste que: El mensaje cristiano no aparta a las personas de la edificación del mundo, ni les lleva a despreocuparse del bien de sus semejantes, sino que les impone esta colaboración como un deber (Gaudiam et Spes 34). Es justo conmemorar a san José como obrero en el día mundial del trabajo, porque este santo varón nos recuerda que al trabajar uno colabora con Dios en la creación continua del mundo y de la humanidad.
