3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 On this weekend one of the trustees of our parish will give us a summary of our expenses and thanks on my behalf to all the parishioners who have faithfully contributed during the past year for the parish operations. Also he will invite all those newcomers to contribute with our parish community in the best way, according to their resources and generosity. At times we don t want to hear about money in the Church, neither do I. I will say, we might hear, I quit going to Mass because all the priest did was talk about money. Or the typical objection: The Catholic Church is the richest organization in the world, why are they asking for money? yes, religion is not about money, it s about serving, loving God and saving our souls, however, we have to know and to understand as a faithful parishioner how our parish operates, how it is maintained and what ministry we provide, the challenges that we have etc. At home some of us have some kind of income, whether it is a paycheck, a welfare check, a pension, or inherited wealth. Whatever their source of income, people must budget accordingly to run their homes and their lives. As members of our parish family, everyone is invited to contribute to the expenses necessary to maintain and run our faith homes, which is what our church parish is. When we are asked to give, first consider how much the Lord gave to you. In 16 of His 39 parables, Jesus talked about money. Throughout the Bible, in both the New and Old Testaments, clear directives are given. Lev. 27:30; Dt. 14:22-29; Pvbs. 3:9-10; Sir.35:7-10; Mal. 3:10; Mt.6:24; Mark 10:21; Mark 12:43-44; Luke 3:11; and Luke 12: Truly, the giving and sharing of money is addressed throughout the history of our faith. The Houseful of God requires gifts of time, talent and treasure. John the Baptist s Mission, was not just to call the people of God to repentance. It was not just to make straight the paths of the Lord and prepare the Jews for the advent of the Messiah. It was also to Point out the Messiah when at last he came. Just like the angels needed to indicate the baby Jesus to the shepherds and the wise men needed the star, so the adult Jesus also needed an indicator to point out that he who looked fully human was also in fact divine. John was that star. John was that angel. He concluded his account by saying, I myself have seen and have testified that this is the SON OF GOD. Across the path of two thousand years, the need for people to have Jesus pointed out to them has only grown. It s grown precisely because the Son of God has taken on even more humble disguises than He did in Palestine. Because Jesus is so masked, many people ordinarily miss His presence. The Church continues to fulfill the mission of John the Baptist in our own day by pointing Christ out. In the Second Vatican Council s document on the liturgy says that Jesus is present IN THE MASS. To accomplish so great a work [of salvation], Christ is always present in His Church, especially in her liturgical celebrations. He is present in the sacrifice of the Mass not only in the person of his minister, the same now offering, through the ministry of priests, who formerly offered Himself on the cross, but especially in the Eucharistic species. He is present in His word since it is He Himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the Church. Lastly, He is present when the Church prays and sings, for He has promised where two or three are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them (Mt. 18:20) (Sancrosanctum Concilium, 7). Catechesis of the Good Shepherd The Prepared Environment/The Atrium The atrium is one of the elements that helps the relationship between God and the child to flourish. After a theme has been presented, the child is free to choose an activity that will make possible the inner dialogue with the Interior Teacher. TRES MISIONES Hoy comenzamos con una de las cantos del siervo del libro de Isaías, una canto profético sobre el ministerio de servicio de Jesús. La misión de Isaías no sólo es lograr que los hijos de Jacob se reúnan en Israel, sino también es convertirse en una luz de las naciones (Isaías 49:6). Jesucristo, como servidor, será el cumplimiento de la antigua profecía y la base de la nueva. Este domingo comenzamos una serie de lecturas de la carta de san Pablo a los corintios. Aquí se define a Pablo de acuerdo a su misión: es un apóstol de Jesucristo. La Iglesia en Corinto a quien se dirige en su carta también se define: es parte de la Iglesia universal de Dios. Los corintios, como todos los cristianos, son llamados a la santidad. Aunque la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor se celebró el domingo pasado, el Evangelio de hoy también alude a la importancia de dicho acontecimiento. La lectura enfatiza que Jesús tiene precedencia sobre Juan: su bautismo en el Espíritu erradicará el pecado. Jesús acepta el bautismo de Juan, a pesar de que él mismo es el Cordero de Dios. Esto de dar dinero a la Iglesia, representa los gastos para el mantenimiento del templo y sus actividades litúrgicas y pastorales. De esta manera, la comunidad pasa a tener más medios para vivir y profundizar en su fe. También, el diezmista proyecta su evangelización, por medio del apoyo a las misiones parroquiales, el aporte a la manutención de vocaciones sacerdotales y religiosas y el apoyo a la misión de la Diócesis. La Sagrada Escritura nos dice: "Cada cual dé según el dictamen de su corazón, no de mala gana ni forzado, pues: "Dios ama al que da con alegría. "Y poderoso es Dios para colmarnos de toda gracia a fin de que teniendo, siempre y en todo lo necesario, tengáis aún sobrante para toda obra buena."(2 Cor 9, 7-8) Dios, en su infinito amor nunca permitirá que nada nos falte, y es por eso que debemos de tener un corazón confiado, pues sabemos que el Señor proveerá, y Él que nos conoce más que nosotros mismos nos dará lo necesario para vivir y hasta para ser generosos con nuestros hermanos.
