3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 3 Dear brothers and sisters Today we read in the Gospel that a young man asks Jesus: «Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?» The very first desire of our hearts must be the desire of eternal life. People in this world often or totally forget about eternal life, and they don t even have this question in their minds: what must I do to inherit eternal life? Both eternal life and what we must do to inherit it are unpostponable questions, because eternal life in heaven is not something that just happens. It takes our active freedom and determination and more importantly the grace of God. Unfortunately we only have other sorts of questions in our minds as for example: What must I do to live a happier life, an easier life, what must I do to be loved and recognized by people? But we forget or don t care about the first question that we must ask. All the other problems are nothing. C. S. Lewis said: If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world. And Saint John Paul II said: The question which the rich young man puts to Jesus of Nazareth is one which rises from the depths of his heart. It is an essential and unavoidable question for the life of every man, for it is about the moral good which must be done, and about eternal life. Jesus has commanded us: Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal (Matthew 6:20). Let us always renew our determination to strive to eternal life and to find the way of Jesus Christ. But let us remember that the indications of Jesus are to be followed, otherwise we will live a sad life, as we see in the life of the young man of the Gospel: Jesus replied: "Y ou are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. In Jesus and Mary Fr Javier Ibarra EUCHARISTIC ADORATION At present, we have Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesdays and Fridays in Xavier Hall Chapel. This will be increased to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Proposed hours will be after Mass at 7:30 AM until 7:00 or 8:00 PM on those days. Sign up will take place after all Masses the weekend of November 3 rd and 4 th with the new Adoration hours starting the first week of December (just in time for Advent). If you have never participated in Adoration before, this will be a perfect starting time for you. If you worry about not being available each week at your designated hour, sign up with a friend and you can share the hour. Even if you are gone for the winter, we can still use you the rest of the year. Adoration can be very enriching for marriages. We are also encouraging families to come with their young children we would provide ½ hour time slots for families. Jesus is waiting to spend time with you! 4 OCTOBER 14, Matching Fund Challenge THANK YOU THANK YOU Many thanks to all the parishioner who helped us surpassed the amount for our Maintenance Matching Fund Challenge. As of October 9 th you have generously supported us with $16, We would also like give a big THANK YOU to the anonymous donor for their generous gift of $15, The work on the west side of Xavier Hall with the installation of new flashing and tuck pointing should be completed in the next couple of weeks. The cost of that project estimated at $80,000, will be paid for out of the interest and dividends from the Albert and Romauld Fischer Memorial Endowment fund which was set up for the upkeep of the parish grounds. The 5 th street road construction will hopefully be completed by the end of the month if the weather cooperates! Catholic Ministries Appeal Funds diocesan led ministries throughout the 20 counties of southern Minnesota. Our parish Goal is $50, We have received $24, from 103 parishioners. Nhưng người ấy nghe những lời đó, thì sụ nét mặt và buồn rầu bỏ đi, vì anh ta có nhiều của cải. Lúc đó Chúa Giêsu nhìn chung quanh và bảo các môn đệ rằng: "Những người giàu có vào nước Thiên Chúa khó biết bao!" Các môn đệ kinh ngạc vì những lời đó. Nhưng Chúa Giêsu lại nói tiếp và bảo các ông rằng: "Hỡi các con, những kẻ cậy dựa vào tiền bạc, thật khó mà vào nước Thiên Chúa biết bao! Con lạc đà chui qua lỗ kim còn dễ hơn người giàu có vào nước Thiên Chúa". Các ông càng kinh ngạc hỏi nhau rằng: "Như vậy thì ai có thể được cứu độ?" Chúa Giêsu chăm chú nhìn các ông, và nói: "Đối với loài người thì không thể được, nhưng không phải đối với Thiên Chúa, vì Thiên Chúa làm được mọi sự". {Phêrô thưa cùng Chúa Giêsu rằng: "Đây chúng con đã bỏ mọi sự mà theo Thầy". Chúa Giêsu trả lời rằng: "Thầy bảo thật các con, chẳng ai bỏ nhà cửa, anh em, chị em, cha mẹ, con cái, đồng ruộng vì Thầy và vì Tin Mừng, mà ngay bây giờ lại không được gấp trăm ở đời này về nhà cửa, anh em, chị em, cha mẹ, con cái và ruộng nương, cùng với sự bắt bớ, và ở đời sau được sự sống vĩnh cửu. Nhưng có nhiều kẻ trước nhất sẽ nên rốt hết, và những kẻ rốt hết sẽ nên trước nhất".} Đó là lời Chúa. Reconciliation/First Holy Communion Do you have a student who is ready to prepare for First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation? Grades 2-4 Wednesdays at 6:00 pm Grades 5-12 Mondays at 6:00 pm Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: A Faith Formation program that helps the child learn our Catholic faith using a hands-on approach; manipulating materials as Scripture is read, setting a model altar while learning the names of the articles Father uses during Mass, utilizing the symbols of Baptism while discussing the Rite, and so much more! Regular sessions are held: Mondays 9:30-11:00 am Level I - ages 3-6 Mondays 3:30-5:00 pm for all 3 Levels Ages 3-7th grade Wednesdays 6:00-7:10 pm Kindergarten Contact Beth Shank in the parish office to register for your child s orientation! RCIA is a program designed to help non-catholics and non -practicing Catholics learn more about Catholicism through a series of classes, discussions, prayer times, and ceremonies. This program helps people grow in faith and knowledge of God as they consider becoming Catholic; although there is no obligation to join the Catholic Church. Contact the parish office at to register. 6 OCTOBER 14, Baby Bottle Campaign Baby Bottle Campaign started, October 7th, Respect Life Sunday. Baby Bottles are at the entrances of the Church for you to take and fill. Please return by November 19. Thank You Prayers for an increase to the Priesthood For 23 years a Marian prayer group has met to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and for all priests throughout the world. We meet on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in Ss Peter and Paul Chapel. We pray three rosaries and the Chaplet of Diving Mercy. Due to deaths and moving, our numbers have dwindled and we are in need of more members. Please join us. Priesthood Sunday October 28 has been designated as Priesthood Sunday. This day has been chosen by the USA Council of SER- RA International as a day to honor our priests. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. Please join the Church on this special day in praying for our priests, in praising God for their courage and their generosity. We urge you to make your appreciation for your parish priests known. A simple note, a smile or a phone call to assure them of your loving care and gratitude for their presence in the life of your local Church will go a long way to serve the greater good of our wonderful Catholic Church Fund Raiser for Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration November 17 and 18 the Spanish Community will have a Bread Sale in the Gather Area after the Masses to help pay for expenses for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe to be celebrated on Saturday, December 15. Jesús, la Palabra viva de Dios, la encarnación de la sabiduría, le dice cosas fuertes y muy penetrantes al joven rico que acude a Jesús en busca de respuestas a sus dudas más profundas.
