3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 This weekend we celebrate the Word Day of Prayer for vocation to the Priesthood. The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publically fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries( priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission "ad gentes". What a great opportunity for us to pray and encourage our young people to pursuit the vocation to the priesthood and to give their lives as Jesus did for His people. I invite you to pray on this day for the increase of vocations. The Church and our diocese needs more than ever, priests. Our spiritual lives depend much on the Holy Eucharist, and it is the priest, only, who can bring this precious nourishment to us. In a world wound by different afflictions we need healing, it is the priests who can brings us forgivingness and relief. St. John Vianney said: "Without the priest, the passion and death of our Lord would be of no avail. It is the priest who continues the work of redemption here on earth...what use would a house filled with gold be, were there no one to open its door? The priest holds the key to the treasures of heaven: it is he who opens the door: he is the steward of the good Lord; the administrator of His goods...leave a parish for twenty years without a priest and they will end by worshiping the beasts there.. The priest is not a priest for himself, he is a priest for you." Thank you so much for the second collection of today. That collection will go straight to the IVE headquarter for the ministry in our seminaries. Our parish has been named as a party in recent lawsuits. These lawsuits are made possible by a three-year lifting of the statute of limitations for cases of child sexual abuse in Minnesota (Child Victims Act). The lawsuits allege that Fr. Joseph Cashman committed abuse at our parish between 1972 and Joseph Cashman was permanently removed from ministry in 1992 and laicized in The claim does not relate to anyone currently working at the parish or anyone currently in ministry. The diocese and parish legal counsel are making every effort to resolve these cases, and we expect that they will have no affect on the normal operations of our parish. Additional information is available in the back of the church. We encourage anyone who has been a victim of child sexual abuse to report the abuse to civil authorities. Survivors should file by May 25 as our communities work toward healing and a just resolution to these cases. Fr. Mariano Varela, IVE Spring House Cleaning While you are doing your Spring Housecleaning, instead of taking your items to the thrift store, please save them for a Garage Sale, sponsored by the minor seminarians to help pay for their trip to Rome for the canonization of Blessed Jose Sanchez Del Rio. The garage sale will be held on May and May You may drop off items at the minor seminary starting on April 26th until the time of sale from 10am to 4 pm. Why Do Catholics Genuflect in Church Normally, a person is to give the proper sign of reverence, a genuflection, when passing in proximity to the tabernacle. The word genuflect comes from Latin roots meaning bending (or flexing) the knee. The oldest form of reverence during prayer in our tradition is standing; kneeling or genuflecting and it is a sign borrowed from old civic practice. The posture of kneeling, on one knee, is a sign of submission. Servants would take this position before their masters in the ancient world. It said: I m not running away, I m yours, I m here for you. This is what your genuflection on the right knee says when you enter a Catholic Church where the place of reservation of the Blessed Sacrament is visible to you: I m yours.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd celebrates the Liturgy of the Light! Christ is Risen, Alleluia! This Celebration of Easter helps us to ponder the Light of Christ given to us at our Baptism and the True Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament connecting the Easter Vigil and our Baptism. First we process through the hallways singing Christ Be Our Light ending in the Chapel. Each child is presented with the Light of Christ, time in Adoration, and Benediction. Día de Oración por las vocaciones EL REBAÑO DEL PASTOR En el arte cristiano, las primeras imágenes de Jesucristo no fueron de su crucifixión ni de su resurrección. Fueron de Jesús como el Buen Pastor, tal como nos lo presentan las lecturas de hoy. En el pasaje evangélico Jesús se nos revela como el pastor y sus seguidores son su rebaño. La primera y la segunda lecturas nos cuentan un poco más sobre el rebaño. El pasaje de los Hechos nos asegura que tanto los judíos como los gentiles están llamados a seguir a Jesús. Es la fe, no el derecho de cuna, lo que nos permite pertenecer a la comunidad de creyentes. En el pasaje del libro del Apocalipsis, aprendemos que el rebaño que le sigue a este Cordero de Dios será también purificado en su sangre.
