2 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT 2 Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday: 11 am-noon & 4-5 pm Daily: After the 7:00 am Mass Other times by appointment. 3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 This Sunday the Lord will teach on the importance to be free of our spiritual blindness. Jesus did not ask the beggar blind man for faith or if he believes, as He previously did with others when He restored their sights, no, He restored his sight at the inquiry of the disciples who asked: who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Neither him nor his parents sinned; Jesus answered, it so that the works of God might be made visible through him. The blind man s journey has an important application to the path Jesus has asked the catechumens of our parish to walk this Lent. Why were they not born Catholics? Jesus would likely respond so that God s works may be revealed in them now. Jesus has touched them sent them to go to be washed in the pool of baptism, and they with trust in him have gone, not knowing precisely what will happen in them, but Jesus in baptism will give them Himself, the Light of the World, so that they might walk and live according to the light of faith. But also there is another application to all of us in this parish, including those of us who were baptized as infants a long-time ago. Just as in physical life, our eyesight can worsen over time, so in the spiritual life, we can become gradually blind. The vision given in Baptism can deteriorate, so that, minimally, we need corrective vision lenses, but may need something far more drastic if we have become, in fact, spiritually blind to the light of faith. Three-and-a-half weeks ago, Jesus did something to us similar to what He did to the man born blind in today s Gospel. We went up to someone acting in His Name, who smudged our foreheads not with muddy saliva but moistened ashes, and gave us a two-part command, the very same imperative with which Jesus began His whole public ministry in St. Mark s Gospel, Repent and believe in the Good News! This was Jesus pathway for us to participate in our own healing during this blessed time of Lent, in our own coming from the darkness into the light of Christ, in our own exodus from sin to love, in our own passover from death to life. We might have been tempted to consider this more or less an empty rite, something merely symbolic especially if we are blind to our own sinfulness but Jesus wanted to work in us during this time a true miracle of healing, through our participation and trust in this process. Rejoice, Jerusalem! Be glad for her, you who love her; rejoice with her, you who mourned for her, and you will find contentment at her consoling breasts." This Sunday is known as Laetare Sunday and is a Sunday of joy. Lent is half over, and Easter is enticingly near. The Church s liturgy, on this the Fourth Sunday of Lent, invites us to retrace one of the fundamental dynamics of our baptismal re-birth through the Gospel account of the healing of the man born blind. It is the passage from the darkness of sin and error to the Light of God, who is the Risen Christ. The day is important because it is the day of the second scrutiny in preparation for the Baptism of adults at the Easter Vigil Catholic Ministries Appeal: The CMA 2017 has launched its annual appeal around the parishes of the Diocese. Sometime during this period of devotion, people cannot go to confession and therefore they think they will not receive the graces promised by Jesus. You may go to confession if you have a mortal sin, otherwise, as long as your conscience tells you that you are in the graces of God, you are spiritually alive to receive all the graces on that Sunday. Mankato, MN Lenten Learning Sessions Lenten Learning Sessions with Dr. Pence: On Friday March, 31 and April 7 at 7:00 pm, Dr. Pence will speak on the topic of the Second Vatican Council. In these learning sessions Dr. Pence will continue to expand on information presented in the Advent Series he conducted. All sessions will begin with stations of the cross in the church and then will continue with the learning session in the Upper Room (4th Floor). Anh đáp: "Ngài đã xoa bùn vào mắt tôi, tôi đi rửa và tôi được sáng mắt". Mấy người biệt phái nói: "Người đó không phải bởi Thiên Chúa, vì không giữ ngày Sabbat". Mấy kẻ khác lại rằng: "Làm sao một người tội lỗi lại làm được những phép lạ thể ấy?" Họ bất đồng ý kiến với nhau. Họ liền quay lại hỏi người mù lần nữa: "Còn anh, anh nói gì về người đã mở mắt cho anh?" Anh đáp: "Đó là một Tiên tri". Họ bảo anh ta: "Mày sinh ra trong tội mà mày dám dạy chúng ta ư?" Rồi họ đuổi anh ta ra ngoài. Chúa Giêsu hay tin họ đuổi anh ra ngoài, nên khi gặp anh, Người liền bảo: "Anh có tin Con Thiên Chúa không?" Anh thưa: "Thưa Ngài, nhưng Người là ai để tôi tin Người?" Chúa Giêsu đáp: "Anh đang nhìn thấy Người và chính Người đang nói với anh". Anh ta liền nói: "Lạy Ngài, tôi tin", và anh ta sấp mình thờ lạy Người. Đó là lời Chúa. Domingo de Ramos 9 de Abril HIJOS DE LA LUZ El futuro rey, David, en la primera lectura de hoy, es un ejemplo de un tipo de personaje presente a lo largo de las escrituras hebreas. Es el hijo que nace fuera de lugar (no es ni el mayor ni el preferido) pero a fin de cuentas recibe la promesa de la alianza. El espíritu de Dios lo llena con su unción. En esto, se parece al hombre que nació ciego del Evangelio de hoy. La familia de David y la comunidad del ciego no esperaban que la gracia milagrosa del amor de Dios obrara por medio de ellos. Quizás ellos, también, estaban ciegos por las expectativas y suposiciones de los que los rodeaban. Sin embargo, luego de ser tocados por Dios, ambos vieron la presencia de la voluntad de Dios para ellos. Ambos se convirtieron en mensajeros de la voluntad de Dios. Ese mismo Espíritu de unción de Dios nos llenó en nuestro bautismo; se nos dio un cirio como símbolo de que somos miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Luz de la Luz.
