3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 On this Sunday the Church celebrates the Feast of the Lord s Epiphany, His manifestation to all the Gentiles in the person of the Magi coming from the East. What God promised to Abraham is coming to fulfillment, that He would become not just the father of the Jews but of many nations. We mark the fulfillment of what God announced to us through the prophets, that God s salvation would reach not merely to the confines of the Holy Land but go to the ends of the earth. And the Responsorial Psalm is a foretaste: Lord, every nation on earth will adore you, as we see the three wise men bringing Him gifts, tribute and homage. We have the realization of what Isaiah foretold in the first reading, that nations would walk by light coming from Israel, that those even as far away as Sheba in the desert would come bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the Lord s praises. From this feast and the example of the magi we are called to seek the Lord with passionate fervor. The light that guided the wise men was just the luminous star, while now through the revelation of Jesus himself, we have several others light that invites us to seek for Him: the scriptures; His words, the shining lamp of the tabernacle that tells us that Jesus is here, that we have to come to adore Him and pay our worship to Him. That is what we do every time we come to Mass, we come with almost the same attitude of the magi, bring the best to the Lord, but most important recognizing in Him, the King of all creation, the Son of God, the Messiah who is to come and to save the world. We also can learn that our life is journey of faith, that we are not alone in this pilgrimage. We learn from them that the true manning of adoration does not consist in giving costly gifts but the giving of ourselves and the true adoration of His divine presence. Statewide Immigration Sunday January 8, 2017, For nearly a half century, the Catholic Church in the United States has celebrated National Migration Week, which is an opportunity for the Church to reflect on the circumstances confronting migrants, including immigrants, refugees, children, and victims and survivors of human trafficking. The theme for National Migration Week 2017 draws attention to Pope Francis' call to create a culture of encounter, and in doing so to look beyond our own needs and wants to those of others around us. In the homily given at his first Pentecost as Pope, he emphasized the importance of encounter in the Christian faith: "For me this word is very important. Encounter with others. Why? Because faith is an encounter with Jesus, and we must do what Jesus does: encounter others." With respect to migrants, too often in our contemporary culture we fail to encounter them as persons, and instead look at them as others. We do not take the time to engage migrants in a meaningful way, but remain aloof to their presence and suspicious of their intentions. During this National Migration Week, let us all take the opportunity to engage migrants as children of God who are worthy of our attention and support. God gives it all and then asks us to share! Everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. Stewardship is the ability to share our gifts of life, time, talent and treasure with others-with no strings attached and no conditions. We share these gifts out of our love for God and gratitude to Him. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be give to you as well. 4 JANUARY 8, Pathways TEC Retreat Pathways TEC Retreat February 18-20, 2017 Mankato. Teens (age 16 and up) and adults are invited to attend Pathways Together Encounter Christ (TEC) weekend at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Sponsored by the Diocese of Winona and affiliated with National TEC, Pathways TEC is a dynamic, 3 day retreat focused on the Life, Death and Resurrection of Christ. Rồi vua đã phái họ đi Bêlem và dặn rằng: "Các khanh hãy đi điều tra cẩn thận về Hài Nhi, rồi khi đã gặp thấy, hãy báo tin lại cho Trẫm, để cả Trẫm cũng đến triều bái Người". Nghe nhà vua nói, họ lên đường. Và kìa ngôi sao họ xem thấy ở Đông phương, lại đi trước họ, mãi cho tới nơi và đậu lại trên chỗ Hài Nhi ở. Lúc nhìn thấy ngôi sao, họ hết sức vui mừng. Và khi tiến vào nhà, họ đã gặp thấy Hài Nhi và Bà Maria Mẹ Người, và họ đã quỳ gối xuống sụp lạy Người. Rồi, mở kho tàng ra, họ đã dâng tiến Người lễ vật: vàng, nhũ hương và mộc dược. Và khi nhận được lời mộng báo đừng trở lại với Hêrôđê, họ đã qua đường khác trở về xứ sở mình. Đó là lời Chúa. LA ESTRELLA DE BELÉN El desarrollo del relato de la Encarnación continúa hoy cuando la Iglesia celebra la Epifanía. La historia de los Magos de oriente es uno de los relatos más fascinantes de las Escrituras. Nos enseña mucho sobre qué podemos esperar, incluso en circunstancias y lugares que pueden parecer insignificantes. Belén era un pueblo diminuto, lo que hoy diríamos un pueblo sin siquiera un semáforo. Sin embargo, es sobre este lugar aparentemente insignificante que la estrella guía se detuvo en su búsqueda del lugar en donde el Salvador nacería. Muchas veces no comprendemos que la estrella de Belén se posa en nuestra vida diaria, donde podemos sentir la presencia de Dios, manifestada de maneras diversas y nuevas. Sus objetivos 1. Fortalecer la identidad y el compromiso cristiano de los laicos, invitándolos a una mayor participación en la vida de la Iglesia. 2. Lograr que en cada parroquia, a través de una catequesis sobre la generosidad, los fieles descubran que el desprendimiento de sus bienes materiales es parte esencial de su vida cristiana y que la entrega de su Diezmo los lleva a incrementar su co-responsabilidad con la misión evangelizadora de su parroquia. 3. Alcanzar, a través del Diezmo y la Ofrenda, el autofinanciamiento de las obras evangelizadoras y de promoción humana de cada parroquia.
