3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine Tuesday, September 8, 2015 Join the seminarians, our priests and staff for our annual full-day pilgrimage to the beautiful Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, WI. On Tuesday, September 8, 2015 The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Bishop Quinn will renew the consecration of the Diocese of Winona to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 5:15 p.m. It is our Diocesan tradition that we make this renewal every year on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as an act of love and devotion to Our Lady. You might recall that it was in 2008 that Bishop Harrington consecrated the Diocese of Winona to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In the very moment of conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary, Jesus entrusted His whole being to her. Similarly, by this act of consecration, we allow Mary to actualize her mediation, enriching our diocese with a higher degree of grace and greater likeness to Christ. We surrender the diocese completely to God and His service, giving the same yes that Mary gave when she bore Jesus in her womb. The act of consecration dedicates the diocese and all of the good works that come from it to Our Lady and her desires, in order to more fully complete the will of her Son. We will be taking a coach bus and eating our noon meal in the shrine restaurant upon arrival. This will be followed by Mass in the shrine church, tours, and praying the outdoor stations of the cross. The cost of the pilgrimage will be $40 per person which includes bus transportation and the meal. Family plans are available. 5 EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 5 Faith Formation Beth Shank faith4u@hickorytech.net AND YOUTH MINISTRY Beverly Miller ssppyouth@hickorytech.net The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori approach to the religious formation of children. SSPP is excited to announce the opening of a Level II Atrium for children ages 6-9! The Catechetical team has been working diligently on materials and through the 90 hour certification program to be prepared to assist the children to fall more deeply in love with God and explore the History of our faith. This hands-on approach to learning greatly impacts the children as they enter into the Atrium, a beautiful space prepared for them to explore the proclamations of the Catholic Church. Atrium Sessions will be held Mondays beginning in October Level I (ages 3-6[Kindergarten]): 3:30 5:00pm Level II (ages 6-9): 3:30-5:30pm If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should with patience and courage seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe. Sofia Cavalletti SS. What if we were to tell you that there is a strategy you can employ right now to greatly increase the chances of your teenager achieving happiness and success? IS THAT SOMETHING YOU D LIKE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT?!?! What does success look like? Teens who are able to thrive, regardless of their circumstances, have a strong selfconcept and strong character; they are responsible, capable, caring, and other-centered. How do you find success? By receiving the strength to overcoming obstacles presented by our society through the building up of Christ Centered relationships through small group discipleship! What is Small Group Discipleship? Small Groups are environments where teens feel known and loved. Discipleship involves a caring adult mentor(s) who leads the small group as teens grow in their relationships with one another and with God. The goal is to develop the habits to become devoted disciples of Jesus Christ, taking ownership of their faith. Our Parish has subscribed to YDisciple, a website that provides the training needed for mentors, dynamic video presentations of the faith, and well-crafted discussion questions that engage critical thinking and dialogue in the small group. What can you do to get your teenager in a discipleship group? 1. Have a conversation with your teenager about the importance of joining a discipleship group. 2. Ask your teenager about inviting friends (same gender) to be in the group. 3. Have a conversation with the parents of these friends. 4. Have a conversation with your teenager about some possible mentors to lead the group. 5. Introduce your mentor(s) to your Youth Ministry Coordinator so they can be prepared to lead and be given access to YDisciple s platform. Ydisciple small groups will be meeting Wednesday evenings 7:30-9:00 pm starting this fall!!!

Muchos de nosotros tenemos más de un trabajo y parecería que nunca tenemos suficiente tiempo. Somos trabajadores, voluntarios, padres, amigos y la mayoría es más de una cosa a la vez. Pero, cuál de estos es el trabajo que Dios quiere? Rara vez vemos nuestro trabajo común como el trabajo que Dios quiere. Quizás pensamos que debemos ser ministros o sacerdotes, misioneros o benefactores, que debemos realizar trabajos de tiempo completo que se consideran como las obras de Dios. Pero todo lo que hacemos con un corazón fiel y con amor por el prójimo es una obra de Dios. Cada uno tiene un papel que cumplir en el mundo y muchos dones son necesarios. No siempre podemos ver la relación directa que existe entre nuestro trabajo diario y los designios de Dios. Pero confiamos y tenemos fe en que Dios nos guía a hacer lo que es necesario, cuando es necesario. Cuál es la obra de Dios?
