3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 Dear brothers and sisters: In His infinite mercy, our Lord teaches us about what we are supposed to do in order to be blessed by His many gifts, namely, to pray in community. It is very important that we pray in the silence of our hearts, each one individually, as often as we can. But it is very important as well, and an essential element of our Christian life, that we pray as a family. If two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. The power of prayer in community comes from the fact that we belong to Christ, we are members of His body and we can intercede for each other. Saint Paul says to the Romans: For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5). If we belong to each other in Christ, then we are to have a common goal and purpose together with Christ. Now, what is Jesus desire? He told us that His food is to do the will of the Father. (Cfr. John 4:34) So, we pray together as a family in order that we all do the will of the Father. Our Lord s prayer is clear in the petition that we now make: Thy will be done. As a consequence, when there is a common striving for fulfilling the will of God in our lives, when every Christian in the Church is busy in accomplishing in his life the greatest task of pleasing God at all times, then there is unity among the members of Christ, because, as a family each one in his own position takes care of doing everything as God wants him to do it. Inevitably this fact causes unity and strength in a community. For that reason the wisdom of the Psalm sings: How good and pleasant it is when God s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1. For that reason too, the Apostle Peter encourages us in his first letter: All of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. (1 Peter 3:8). However, it is not just unity the fruit of community prayer. Another fruit is that God blesses the community with a particular kind of presence. He said: where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Let us pray in thanksgiving for the gift of community prayer, especially for the most perfect form of community prayer which is the sacrifice of the Holy Mass. Let us remember that from the beginning of the history of the Church the bond of unity and peace was community prayer and the breaking of the bread (the Eucharist), as we read in the acts of the Apostles: Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Jesus & the Little Ones Sunday School Catechists are needed to share the Sunday Gospel readings with 3-7 year old children on their level. The program is held during the Liturgy of the Word during the 9:30 am Sunday Mass. Catechists lead the children out of Mass after a blessing from the priest and return at offertory. Contact the Faith Formation office for more information. In recent years there has been a great increase in the number of adults who are joining the Catholic Church. RCIA is a program designed to help non-catholics and non-practicing Catholics learn more about Catholicism through a series of classes, discussions, prayer times, and ceremonies. This program helps people grow in faith and knowledge of God as they consider becoming Catholic; although there is no obligation to join the Catholic Church. Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church RCIA program is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you are not yet sure whether you want to become Catholic, that s ok! 6 SEPTEMBER 10, Loyola Catholic School Each month we celebrate our elementary student s birthdays at a Birthday Mass. Students are honored and blessed at Mass and complete a project for our Birthday Wall. This year s theme is I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life...follow Me. Our September Birthday Mass is on September 20 at 9:20 am All are welcome. Volunteers are always welcome at Loyola. 7 XXIII DOMINGO TIEMPO ORDINARIO 10 DE SEPTIEMBRE Años de la Virgen de Fátima Todos los 13 de cada mes desde Mayo a Octubre tendremos celebración por la aparición de nuestra Señora de Fátima. La próxima celebración será: CENTINELAS DE DIOS En el mundo de la antigüedad los centinelas eran gente de gran importancia. Mantenían la seguridad de las comunidades y su deber era alertarles sobre cualquier peligro o ataque inminente. Antes de que hubiera cerrojos, sistemas de alarma y seguridad, los centinelas eran los protectores, la medida de seguridad. Así que cuando hoy el Señor le encarga a Ezequiel ser centinela, es un cargo de peso. Tan pesado, se nos hace conocer, que si Ezequiel falla y no da la voz de alarma a los que le rodean y ellos mueren en estado de maldad, Ezequiel será el responsable! Este profundo vínculo entre la voluntad de Dios en la tierra y en el cielo se repite en el Evangelio de hoy, donde Jesús nos instruye que tenemos que ser la fuerza de seguridad, los centinelas colocados en estado de alerta para que en ninguna parte del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Iglesia, haya dos miembros del único Cuerpo que no estén reconciliados. La Sagrada Escritura nos dice que Jesús reconcilió todas las cosas en el cielo y en la tierra mediante la sangre de su cruz. Pero se nos da la misión de continuar esa reconciliación en la tierra por medio de nuestros incesantes esfuerzos de ser, como escribiera Pablo, embajadores de reconciliación. No nos quedemos muy cómodos pensando que nuestra única responsabilidad es mantenernos fuera del camino de la maldad y la discordia.
