3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 The Transfiguration described by St. Luke, took place on a mountain, Mount Tabor near Nazareth, according to tradition. Some days previously Peter had confessed that Christ was the Messiah of God. "Christ had then foretold His passion and death at the hands of His enemies, to be followed by His resurrection. He had encouraged His disciples not to fear sufferings but to carry their cross and so reach their glory as He was about to do. However, the disciples could not persuade themselves that He who had shown such wonderful powers, could allow Himself to be put to death by His enemies. This scene on the mountain therefore, which is called the Transfiguration, was intended by Christ to remain steadfast in the terrible test of faith which His passion and death was soon to be for them. The apostles had to face the awful test to their faith and trust in God, which the passion and crucifixion of Christ was for them. We now accept with gratitude, and realize that Christ had to suffer and thus enter into His glory. We even understand that the very purpose of Christ s passion was that, in spite of our mortality and weakness, we also might enter into eternal glory through His suffering, on condition that we remain true to our faith. Also the Church presents us this passage toward the beginning of Lent so that we might receive the lessons God the Father wanted to communicate to Christ s first disciples on the mountain. First, we learn who Christ is: God s beloved Son. Second, we hear the Father s only imperative in the New Testament, to listen to Jesus and believe in Him and in everything He said and taught. Third, we discover centrality of His exodus, His suffering and death; like the Israelites followed Moses through the Red Sea that first exodus, we are called to follow Jesus, the Way, all the way this exodus so as to come to the eternal Promised Land. This is the burning desire of God the Father. He who thundered about Jesus, This is my beloved Son! loved someone in some respects even more that Son. He loved YOU more. He allowed His own Son to be brutally sacrificed on the wood of the Cross fulfilling the prophecy of Abraham and Isaac so that we would not have to die eternally out of sin, but could pass, in Jesus, to a new address, leaving this world and everything behind like Abraham left Ur. Novena of Grace: We are approaching to the celebration of the Novena of Grace in honor of St. Francis Xavier. This Novena, which has the title of Grace comes from a miracle attributed to St. Francis to a Jesuit priest, on his death bed after an accident. The priest was healed on March 12th the same day of St. Francis Xavier s canonization anniversary. I invite you to pray this novena to St. Francis so that you too may be a receiver of his grace. We are so blessed to have a relic of the saint in our parish, it is a great treasure. Everyday during the Novena you will receive the blessing with his relic. The novena will star on Friday March 4, until Saturday March 12. from 6:30 to 7:45 pm. Come and receive many graces from St. Francis Xavier. Lent: Lent is a season in the Church which exhorts us to conversion. Conversion means, to turn back from our bad habits and sins to the mercy of God, in that way we are free and live as true children of God. To turn back also means to clean our hearts, and we do this, when we humbly approach to the sacrament of confession, acknowledging our sins and receiving the absolution of all our sins. I exhort you, specially in this year where we are celebrating the Jubilee of Mercy to approach to the sacrament of Confession in our parish or elsewhere. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us you shall confess your sins at least once a year (2042) Blessings Fr. May the Lord whom she sought in her life, now keep her in everlasting joy. PASTA WITH THE PADRES IS COMING! The 9th Annual Pasta with the Padres fundraiser for ECHO Food Shelf, sponsored by the four Mankato area Catholic churches, will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church on Sunday, March 13th from 4-7 p.m. We will need a lot of helpers again this year with both the dinner and Silent Auction. Sign up sheets will be at the church entries next weekend. Please sign up to help and then plan to attend. Itʼs lots of fun! Serra Club The Mankato Serra Club works to affirm and promote religious vocations and meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. Lúc hai vị từ biệt Chúa, Phêrô thưa cùng Chúa Giêsu rằng: "Lạy Thầy, chúng con được ở đây thì tốt lắm; chúng con xin làm ba lều, một cho Thầy, một cho Môsê, và một cho Êlia". Khi nói thế, Phêrô không rõ mình nói gì. Lúc ông còn đang nói, thì một đám mây bao phủ các Ngài và thấy các ngài biến vào trong đám mây, các môn đệ đều kinh hoàng. Bấy giờ từ đám mây có tiếng phán rằng: "Đây là Con Ta yêu dấu, các ngươi hãy nghe lời Người". Và khi tiếng đang phán ra, thì chỉ thấy còn mình Chúa Giêsu. Suốt thời gian đó, các môn đệ giữ kín không nói với ai những điều mình đã chứng kiến. Đó là lời Chúa. River of Life Prayer Group River of Life is a Mankato Ecumenical Prayer Group that has been meeting for over 40 years and currently meets at Holy rosary Parish Center, located at 546 Grant Avenue, North Mankato, meeting room #1. SEREMOS TRANSFORMADOS La manifestación de la Gloria de Dios en el Evangelio de hoy está llena de una luz que a la vez asombra y revela. Jesús, transfigurado en el Monte Tabor, llena de su energía a los apóstoles adormecidos, que ven la visión, pero no la saben captar. Es perdonable que no capten del todo el significado de esta extraordinaria visión de Jesús transfigurado, entre Moisés y Elías. Aquí, en el monte santo, se resumen la Ley y los profetas. Hoy esa transfiguración se nos ofrece y se nos entrega. Como nos recuerda san Pablo, somos nosotros los que vamos a ser transformados. Hoy se nos presentan la luz y la vida de la Resurrección, para que no nos descorazonemos, no sea que nos quedemos del todo dormidos. Este domingo ya mira hacia la Pascua.
