3 PASTOR S MESSAGE 3 3 Dear brothers and sisters Today we are celebrating the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. The word Epiphany means manifestation, or shining forth, or shining upon. It is a feast of the manifestation of Christ to all nations. That is, the shinning forth of Jesus who comes as a Savior to all. Of His people, represented by the shepherds, and of the rest of the world, represented by the Kings, who come to the humble manger in order to adore the King of Kings and offer their gifts to Him. On speaking about this mystery, the Carmelite, martyr and co-patron of Europe, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), explained: The people gathered around the crib offer us already an image of the Church and of its spreading. The representatives of the ancient royal line to whom the Savior of the world had been promised and the representatives of the faithful form the link between the Old and the New Alliance. The kings from the Far East represent the pagan people who were to receive the salvation of Judah. In this way, we already have here represented the Church stemming from the Jews and the pagans. At the crib, the three Wise Men represent those who, from all countries and nations, seek God. Grace led them long before they belonged to the visible Church. They were inspired by a plain desire for truth that went past the limits of the teachings and traditions of their countries. Because God is truth and he wants to be found by those who seek him with all their heart (Jer 29:13), the star sooner or later had to shine at the eyes of these wise men to show them the way to truth. This is how they found themselves in front of Truth made man, they prostrated themselves before Him to adore Him and they laid down their crowns at His feet, because compared to him, all the riches of the world are just a bit of dust We too are represented by the kings, and we too get closer to the Savior s crib and humbly adore Him and offer to Him our gifts, that is, our own selves. Let us grow in the firm determination to live for him every day of our lives. Have a blessed feast. Thank You. Holy Hour for Life There will be a Holy Hour for Life on Sunday, Jan. 21, immediately following the 10:30am Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Mankato. January 22nd marks the 45th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States. Sine that time, millions of lives have been lost and millions of others have been adversely affected. Please join us in praying for healing and conversion of hearts. You may bring a baby item for a local pregnancy help center and place it in the pack-n-play near the sanctuary. PHÚC ÂM: Mt 2, 1-12 "Chúng tôi từ phương Đông đến thờ lạy Đức Vua". Các ông nói: "Vua người Do-thái mới sinh ra hiện đang ở đâu? Chúng tôi đã nhận thấy ngôi sao của Người ở Đông phương, và chúng tôi đến để triều bái Người". Nghe nói thế, vua Hêrôđê bối rối, và tất cả Giêrusalem cùng với nhà vua. Vua đã triệu tập tất cả các đại giáo trưởng và luật sĩ trong dân, và hỏi họ cho biết nơi mà Đức Kitô sinh hạ. Họ tâu nhà vua rằng: "Tại Bêlem thuộc xứ Giuđa, vì đó là lời do Đấng Tiên tri đã chép: Cả ngươi nữa, hỡi Bêlem, đất Giuđa, không lẽ gì ngươi bé nhỏ hơn hết trong các thành trì của Giuđa, vì tự nơi ngươi sẽ xuất hiện một thủ lãnh, Người đó sẽ chăn nuôi Israel dân tộc của Ta". Bấy giờ Hêrôđê ngầm triệu tập mấy nhà đạo sĩ tới, cặn kẽ hỏi han họ về thời giờ ngôi sao đã hiện ra. Rồi vua đã phái họ đi Bêlem và dặn rằng: "Các khanh hãy đi điều tra cẩn thận về Hài Nhi, rồi khi đã gặp thấy, hãy báo tin lại cho Trẫm, để cả Trẫm cũng đến triều bái Người". Nghe nhà vua nói, họ lên đường. Và kìa ngôi sao họ xem thấy ở Đông phương, lại đi trước họ, mãi cho tới nơi và đậu lại trên chỗ Hài Nhi ở. Lúc nhìn thấy ngôi sao, họ hết sức vui mừng. Và khi tiến vào nhà, họ đã gặp thấy Hài Nhi và Bà Maria Mẹ Người, và họ đã quỳ gối xuống sụp lạy Người. Rồi, mở kho tàng ra, họ đã dâng tiến Người lễ vật: vàng, nhũ hương và mộc dược. Và khi nhận được lời mộng báo đừng trở lại với Hêrôđê, họ đã qua đường khác trở về xứ sở mình. Đó là lời Chúa. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Encounters in the Atrium The children will become partners in the covenant with God by being in relationship with Him. Some of the ideas shared in CGS include: The Life of Christ: The children learn about the historical events of the life of Jesus, including the infancy narratives, the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. They encounter presentations on the preaching of Jesus and the images of Christ as Good Shepherd, Christ the Light and the True Vine. Liturgy: The children explore the biblical message lived in the liturgical experience of the church through prayer and celebration. Baptism: In Baptism, we receive the gift of Jesus Risen life. The baptismal light and white garments are signs we discover. Eucharist: The actions and words of the Mass help us to learn about the Good Shepherd, who gives His life for His sheep. Reconciliation: This is presented to older children through the signs and works of the sacrament.

6 JANUARY 7, Installation of Our Pastor On Sunday, January 14, at the 11:30 am Mass, Most Reverend John M. Quinn, Bishop of Winona, will be here to officially install Father Javier Ibarra, IVE as Pastor of SS Peter and Paul Parish. All are welcome to attend the 11:30 Mass. A reception for Father will follow in Jesuit Hall. Mission Quilters The Mission Quilters donated 60 plus crocheted and fabric lap robes for the elderly that are homebound. Also they donated approximately 15 knitted stocking caps made by a parishioner. Now the cold weather will be more toasty warm for them because of the Quilters kindness. En otras palabras, por medio del pueblo de Israel, el Salvador llegará a todos los pueblos que buscan a Dios con un corazón sincero. Pero quién dijo que eran tres? Según San Mateo (Mt 2:112) fueron sabios del oriente que trajeron oro, incienso y mirra a Jesús. La imaginación cristiana decidió que cada regalo requería alguien que lo regalara. Se fija así el número de sabios en tres. Por ser astrólogos del oriente, tenían que ser magos. Venían buscando al nuevo rey de Israel y fue así que se les da el papel de reyes que representaban los tres continentes conocidos en la época medieval: Asia, África y Europa. Ellos también representan tres edades humanas: juventud, madurez y vejez. Melchor (rey de la luz), fue un anciano europeo que obsequió oro al Rey Jesús; Gaspar (tesorero) fue un joven asiático que regaló incienso al Niño Dios y Baltasar (dios proteja al rey) fue un hombre africano que donó mirra al Hijo del Hombre.
